One of those old 4-stroke machines? I must have had mine nigh on 10 years when it got terminal death last year. I never did find out what the (major) problem was but 9/10 years' use for £90... no complaints. Of no use to you whatsoever that - just reminiscing 'cos nostalgia ain't what it was...

There are horror stories with every bank. I/we've been with the Abbey and Santander for ?20 years. Never had major problems, mistakes are rare; life's easy there I find. They made a costly error last year; I phoned, they apologised and reimbursed immediately without argument. Can't ask more. There was much talk of customer service going down the swanny when the Abbey was bought by Santander but perhaps they've been doing their homework.

I put my Jo Beau on a motorbike trailer. Can only chip over the tailgate if the chipper's on the trailer (detached but parked sideways across the pickup). To park the trailer I've put a pair of castors on the back so it stands up and wheels down a path.

Indeed. When North Sea oil was going to make us a super rich country we only gave ourselves 30 years' supply to do it with. Not super rich but there's plenty there still...

I don't burn hardwood, I sell it. I try to sell softwood too but boy oh boy is it a struggle. Hand on heart I have never sold softwood alone, only as half a double load. I do try the softwood sell but the fear of burning softwood is so ingrained it's proving a very hard nut to crack.

If there's doubt as to whether it's cornus at all have you done the cornus latex test with a carefully torn leaf? -
But it's not 'only' security; security is a huge and growing factor. An arb I know lived away from his yards for many years but after being turned over one time too many sought a house with adjacent yard. As for leaving work at work - that's where the personal choice and discipline come into it.

Depends on the boots; if they're 'breathable' you need to be very careful what you put on in order to maintain the breathabiity; there are specialised products. For plain leather... you're going to get a host of replies but when I get round to it I use neatsfoot oil.

For £1k you'd get a Treebusta in vgc. Weighs ~220kg and is like a big wheelbarrow; 2 wheels at the front, 2 legs at the back and long handles. You'd need to think carefully abut transport but for such rare use I'd say it would be perfect. Oh, will chip 3" stuff easily.

Willow and fresh euc. I collected some from a yard in the summer and wore gloves, tucked my trousers in my socks and put on a jacket to pick up the rounds. Crawling with them they were.

I don't mean to have a dig with this question as I don't know others' circumstances but why are you bothering to split stuff that needs a maul? Why not just turn it on its side and put a saw through it or keep a separate untidy heap of gnarly stuff that won't be ready to burn for three years? Some people like to have a stock of big logs to keep a fire in overnight.

Have just bought an X17 off the Bay - £25 + £9 p&p. What a bargain and what a tool; I've done 2 hours with it and not even picked up the X27.

That's excellent; 10/10 to you. I saw a Youtube vid (maybe put up by someone on here) of a classic OTT American domestic setup where the whole shebang was on a length of railway track: the guy used his mini digger to shunt the lot along a bay's length each time one ran out! ...Found it.
