  1. I can't believe it's 24 yrs ago. Memories of towing a caravan into Surrey and living in it. Getting a fire going to heat a bucket of water to wash and a tractor and chipper running solidly all day
  2. And this is what they grow up to be....taken last week.
  3. Ah but you were going rook shooting at the time they'd be sitting:sneaky2:
  4. Beautiful bowl:thumbup:
  5. I remember a timber faller felling a big pop. When it hit the ground a green woodpecker flew out. She had chicks in the tree and she continued to feed them until they successfully fledged. We had to stop today when I found young woodpeckers in an ash I was fracture pruning. It could easily have been missed. Stopped yesterday when I spotted a whitethroats nest in nettles at the base of a tree. We can always go back.
  6. As chicken on beech is only found in ancient woodland would that indicate some sort of symbiotic relationship with another fungus? Brilliant pics.
  7. So what changes a person when they are elected to represent us? Does a politician start out as a good guy/girl and then take some sort of 'hypocratic oath' that states they must squander, lie, line their own pockets and/or adulterate:001_smile: Or......are they just representative of the human race as a whole?
  8. Avon's 'Skin so Soft' if it's still available. As used by the SAS:thumbup1:
  9. There are three kinds of lies. Lies, damned lies and statistics. (Mark Twain)

    Wow:thumbup1:
  11. Lost a couple too young. It's hard and I feel for you.
  12. It seems to me that TW build to a quality that just about copes with what's asked of them. Whereas an American bit of kit will take all you can throw at it and then some. I just hope they don't decide to build a stumpgrinder!
  13. I've run veg oil exclusively for the past 12 months in saws ranging from 200t to 460. I've not had any problems with pumps or excessive bar wear but have noticed that I run out of chain adjustment before I run out of cutter links. Going on this evidence then then veg oil can't be lubricating the chain pins/rivets as well as a dedicated chain oil.
  14. Are there any hares about? Looks the right height for them.
  15. Leaves don't look right on the first pic for Lonicera.
  16. One of the great wonders is that tits time the hatching of their eggs to coincide with the first great flush of caterpillars. Also the pupae hatch just on budburst as the old leaves contain too much tannin. How do they all do that?
  17. Or you could just use the 20mins looking at a field guide:001_smile:
  18. Not very big are they
  19. Quality:thumbup1:
  20. The ground's cracked where the tree's lifted slightly?
  21. Can I just see something well up? P. squamosus?
  22. I've wondered that too:thumbup1:
  23. olivemead forge Try this guy. Makes good tools the proper way.
  24. One barrel of crude (42gallons) makes approx 44 galls of end product of which 9 galls is diesel and 13 galls petrol. The rest is divided into kero, aviation, gas etc.
  25. Seven weeks without rain now. Maybe the Saudis are channeling it away:001_smile: Plenty of ash trees into leaf early this year....just wait till June and there'll be loads of threads on the best wet weather gear.
