  1. A few from the w/e. Hedge laying in Staffordshire, Stafford, Shropshire, Hedgelaying
  2. Always found this to be an easy chain to sharpen so can't see this being the issue. I reckon it's a problem with the bar. Can be hard to spot sometimes.

    So Fed Up

At 22 you've got a long time to do lots of things. I've been climbing for 38 years and have got fed up many times....none more so than now. I love my hedge laying and there's plenty of that to do from Oct - March. One or two lady hedge layers about now too. A friend of mine is busy maintaining and doing renovation work on horse paddocks. I make wooden household pieces from salvaged timber, old oak fence posts and unusual shaped branches etc. Another friend retrained as a saddler and makes good money too. Farriery? Thatching? Coppice working? Quality hedge laying in Staffordshire, Stafford and surrounding counties.
  4. When I inquired of a vintage tractor friend about getting a Massey for ploughing he said: Forget it. Too much money. Get yourself an International as they're reasonably priced and good kit.
  5. For a special effect allow it to produce just a few leaves. They'll be massive.
  6. As well as Midland style there are other midlands styles and they're all faced hedges. All are based on arable and stock rotations. Cheshire is the the longest rotation so the hedge is hardly laid off and no more than 6" wide at the top tapering to 9" at the base and quite a thin build. Staffordshire is hardly laid off and the top is bound using materials out of the hedge (living and dead) Derby is laid off but not bound.
  7. Any hedgelaying going? I think £500 per metre is reasonable. Quality hedge laying in Staffordshire, Stafford and surrounding counties.

    New season

Cheshire and NW Champs. All axe work. No saws allowed. The hedge is laid very narrow...about 6" at the top tapering to 9" or so at the base. Second place.
  9. Much of it gained by high pressure tactics on householders.
  10. Bought a few from Jones. They are good(used by many vehicle restorers) and they will make exactly what you want.
  11. Nice work on the wall. I had a Great great Uncle who served his time in WW1 as a Sniper. On his return he was locked in a padded cell at an institution where he spent the rest of his days. Shell-shock was diagnosed as madness!
  12. Louise Bonne of Jersey possibly.

    Any ideas??

They are Longhorn beetle larvae. Could be any one of a number of species in the UK.
  14. Good luck. I used to fish a lot for tope, bass and black bream out of Aberdovey area on the reef. Costs added up for charter fishing so I decided to buy my own boat; a 17' dory. Great fun etc but the downsides.........the novelty of towing 100 miles soon wears off when you're up at 5am, 10hrs fishing, pull everything out, stick loads of fuel in and drive back. Knackered is the word. If you're launching from a place that's dictated by tides starts can be very early and you're looking at 12hrs out. Watch the forecasts and preferably have someone local you can call for a true sea state. Done the drive based on forecasts to find that you can't get out. Apart from that; enjoy it.

    New season

Stafford and Derby hedges are generally staked with sawn posts. Possibly because of(historically) a local shortage of coppice products. When hedges were managed on a regular basis then there would have been enough wood in the hedge to utilize for stakes.

    New season

Still building up to the season. Last weeks match Derby style.Quality hedge laying in Staffordshire, Stafford and surrounding counties.
  17. The sooner we revert to its original Pagan meaning the better.
  18. I've used a Jetmaster 5kw for the last four years. Excellent little stove and very controllable.
  19. We bought one from Flowfit in Ludlow for a Vermeer at a good price. Their supplier is based in N Wales. Either Colwyn or Rhyl. Can't remember which and I'm pretty sure you can go direct to them. If I remember their name I'll post it up.
  20. Thank you. I'll take a look at that.
  21. Anyone care to take a look at mine and pass comment. Don't do much tree work nowadays. Concentrate on my hedgelaying. Quality hedge laying in Staffordshire, Stafford and surrounding counties.
  22. Not happy where it is so maybe it's not showing its best. Just seems papyrifera to me.
