1. My Navara and my son's rotted away. It appears the new Nav has the same chassis with a bit welded on as an afterthought.
2. Yes it was that type that killed the guy in the tractor. Many a telegraph pole got partly severed with those.
3. Most of my hedge laying I do with axe and billhook. Try and avoid the saw as much as I can except for big and/or old pleachers. My lawn I scythe and will use it in preference to brushcutters if I can. Not yet abandoned chainsaws for felling though :-)
4. I remember a local chap to me killed when part of the hedgecutter sheared off. It went through the cab into his back.
5. I was one of the unreported. Stupidity.....get out of the way...let's get this winch cable up.....rush, rush. One lucky escape as branches kept slowing me down but a broken vertebrae and knocked about. April 1987 and then the Ministry stopped by for a diesel check!
6. I think I'd be looking for honey fungus or meripilus. Was there any thinning of the crown beforehand?
7. Rightly or wrongly I use all the names for all different nationalities whether it's Taffies, Wops etc. I'm no racist at all and mean nothing by it but I suppose many people would take it the wrong way.
8. I don't think anything racist was meant by her use of the phrase. It was a common figure of speech not long ago. Things like that are sometimes spoken without literal intent.
9.
10. I'd do it but it may work out too dear with a weeks B&B. Take a look at National Hedge Laying Society website for contractors in that area. Hedge laying in Staffordshire, Stafford, Shropshire, Hedgelaying
11. Mine came back. Hissing just like it was.
12. I cut next to someone in the national last year and he was using a Stihl rechargable. On a ten metre length he used two batteries. I would have used about 1 1/2 tanks MS200 on similar length.
13. I've just tried that. The noise has virtually gone....but will it last
14. They'll be fine. Just won't grow any more.
15. I've been on saws for forty years. Also from school spent a few years in a tractor cab running all day at pto speed (non Q cab). I have had a constant high humming for a long time. By flexing neck muscles I can also induce a completely different sound too....weird!
16. It's not blight. It looks like magnesium deficiency which is a common problem with taters. Epsom salts will sort that out.
17. Couple of interesting trees. The ash I've posted before which is the result of sheep. The pine is a combination of stock and river.
18. Most tree 'surgeons' are just cutters who haven't a clue about trees; they just cut them and are 'fully qualified' by NPTC. Use someone with a good understanding of tree biology etc.
19. Looks like robur with some early Lammas growth.
20. Thank you. After forty years of climbing I got fed up and decided to concentrate on my hedge laying for six months of the year.
21. A few more.
22. Some late hedge laying ones.
