  1. Yes. Certainly a placebo effect and once you realise that then it won't work :-) I got conned into one.
  2. I'd rather have a Jap truck with 100k . At least you know there's another 100k left in it at least. That mileage might be a wing and a prayer job for a Chinese truck. I had an Hi-lux that the body eventually dropped off with 200+k and it still sold for 1500.
  3. Clear away all the fallen leaves in the Autumn. Try and get hold of some copper based fungicide. Bordeaux mixture can sometimes be found in garden sheds. Spray in the spring as leaves break and spray every ten days or so until the blossom drops. It's worse in wet springs and it's a waste of time spraying after early spring.
  4. Apple scab. https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=81
  5. Looks like Carya spp to me. Need better pics for an ident though.
  6. You say you thought you had a deadline but don't have any written evidence? Maybe it was just verbally. As I see it if you take him to court then it's going to be a tit for tat affair and you'll end up throwing money away. Sometimes it's better to take it on the chin and walk away.....learn a lesson for next time and get everything in writing. Been there etc.
  7. Zoeken in Beeld en Geluid
  8. Top one maybe Ganoderma. Bottom one looks like Polyporous squamosa but never seen that on beech. All a bit of a blur really.
  9. We once had a Lombardy that fell just as we'd removed the face
  10. Imagine the fun the undertakers will have. Remember drawing on balloons with Biro as a kid and then stretching and manipulating them when they burst:001_smile:
  11. Used to do it regularly. I'd go for Northern Spain and drive down into central Spain and across to the Pyrenees. Stunning country away from the tourists. I loved my time there and miss it. Work your way back up through France for the ferry home.
  12. Depending which way it needs to be straightened. If it needs pulling to the face of the hedge then just a nick on the inside with the saw and no tapers. If it's where it can be seen then it's cut just as you would a pleacher to give a smooth appearance which looks far better than a nick with the saw or hook and then bending.
  13. Get some preservative on it or it'll be a magnet for woodworm.
  14. Thank you. Yes the cuts will be either to straighten and bring into line from a bent or double stem or to bring a stem from the back of the hedge to the front. This makes sure that all the stems are staked and part of the hedge build.
  15. Yes...apart from the hope bit:001_smile: The cut at the bottom varies depending on species, age, nature of growth etc. The aim is to get a nice tapering cut all the way to the base where it hinges over. Leave it too thick or too steep an angle and it will try and split back up the stem (backheeling). It will also produce too much growth from the pleacher(laid stem) and not enough from the stool. The growth from the stool is what someone will lay 20 years later. Try it with hazel as it pleaches easily before attempting gnarly old thorn. Generally, depending on the style laid, the stake line runs slightly to the side of the pleaches. To bring your laid stems into line there may be a bit of cutting required (nicking, notching). A couple of pics which may give you an idea.
  16. Sharp tools. When you think they're sharp...sharpen them some more:001_smile: Have a go. Build the hedge around your stakes and straighten up bent stems to fit and keep the stakes in line.
  17. Those are all laid Stafford style. Laid very tight and the tops are bound with the materials out of the hedge.
  18. Been a while since I've been on here. Another month and the season kicks off with the matches. A few pics from last year to get you into the mood if you're a hedgelayer. Quality hedge laying in Staffordshire, Stafford and surrounding counties.
  19. From a facebook member of traditional woodworking. Dutch I think. https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Sems-Happy-Wood/167505776787412?sk=timeline
  20. I think the ban is on all Glyphosate based herbicides.
