  1. I do the self talk thing sometimes. Gives the boys on the ground a giggle. Never afraid to ask their opinion either. They can often see something diffrently and offer another opinion/option. Use the old analogy of think twice cut once too.
  2. Have the 2013 arborist trousers. Very comfy and no problems with the zips/stitching yet. Like all type c's they are rather warm.
  3. We use old climbing ropes as pulling lines. Just have to make sure they are identified as such.
  4. Is a must really when using the SJ. Will help prolong the life of the device as well as being better for you. Not sure what cambium/friction saver you use?
  5. Make sure you are not just pulling on the black lever. Need to use the brake lever as well. Will be a lot smoother if you do. Can fully release the mechanism but use the brake to control descent. You will get used to it the more you use it.
  6. Can't beat the one handed self tending....until the cam wears that is lol
  7. Would appeal to the likes of LA crews who have to jump through H&S hoops....Reducing the risks of sprains/strains from smashing in wedges etc. Ours is going mad on vibration levels at the mo. Practically banned us from the 3120!
  8. Classic. Get numpty's like this all the time. Last one shunted the chipper. No damage to the chipper but broke his light cluster.
  9. Would love to have a chance at a job that is full time and permanant and if you were closer Dean I would have been giving you a shout before now. Went for a job recently at a renouned firm in these parts. Got offered the job but pay levels were shocking. Grass cutters are on more money than what they were offering climbers.
  10. Saw this posted before. Think the guy had to have 3 ops to sort the damage. Was a compound fracture of the leg and a broken knee.
  11. Deffinatly make sure you do risk assessments etc. Plan the work with everybody to make sure yoi have all the bases covered. Maybe set a rescue line in the tree just in case. As to cutting big pops..make sure you have everything set before you start cutting. They go fast and break off as soon as you touch them with a saw.
  12. Hiah dude. Look on the nptc website for the assessment guidance notes so you know what the thr assessor is looking for in the way of questions. Need to get the answers stuck in your head,, plenty of revision needed. It going to be a 5 day course?
  13. Yeah. Honeybros can get you pretty much what you want from them. Need to ring up and enquire. Think they have the boots in quite regularly and had them at the arbshow etc
  14. Very bad idea. I have had two of these in the past and both were a nightmare to heal. This wasn't even working in the arb industry. Even going to sleep on them is painful. Will be a constant battle with infection and swelling. Even the tunnels I have had for nearly 15 years get sore sometimes.
  15. Cheers guys. Think it will be a few years before they are ready for running the 660. The oldest has been up trees already( he is 6) New ones name is gruffudd(griffith) Had an interview for a new job today aswell so may be a new chapter starting in my life
  16. Thought I would share the news with the "mistress" Second baby boy born at 3 this morning! Feel like all is right with the world!
  17. Arborwear ascender trousers are brill. Not cheap though. Always a sharp intake of breath when they catch on something.
  18. Remember those days well. Takes a while to get used to. Have you watched the vids on youtube? Is right about getting the most from the SJ. Have to feed the rope into the device not pull to one side as you do with HC etc. Still get hairy moments with it though.
  19. Honeybros have those for sale. Was wondering the other day about them. Not sure if the class 3 protection would make them hotter/stiffer?
  20. Hi, am wondering if there are any assessors available short notice...Have job site and rigging kit. Just need an assessor. Thanks.
  21. I have one, tends to stay in the van though when climbing. Gets way to hot and sweaty. Very nice when on the ground. Like others have said is made from pretty tough material and lasts quite a while. Collar is very nice on it too, lovely and soft lol.
  22. May be wrong but isn't it written in afag guidelines that type a's can be worn as long as it is justified on RA?
  23. Out boards on big timber will snatch the saw a lot of the time. In boards will do it sometimes too..... If it is big and you are free falling, get the cuts to match top and bottom or even sink cut them. Can always get out further and take them smaller.
  24. Am the same Pete. Having to struggle through. Are you wearing cotton tshirts? find the tech fabrics can help. Plenty of breaks helps, can make jobs longer but sickness through heat stroke etc will also do this. If it is possible rotating climbers over a couple of days so you can wear type a, have an easier day is an idea.
  25. sounds like you used an outboard step cut?
