  1. I would try to retain as much of the lower section of the tree as possible, bet is a haven for habitat. Could you not try to coppice it just above the lower forks and cavities? Granted it would not look great, but it would be safe(er)
  2. As tom said, its a bit too close to home that one. I have noticed quite a few unmarked vans running round with brash stacked on the back over the last few weeks!! Hope it turns up safe and well, will keep my eyes open down here, you never know!
  3. As of today im down to 4 days a week here, will be looking to get my own work in on my spare days to build up the log store for next year. Picking up 5x8 trailer tonight and my truck will be back on the road in the next couple weeks
  4. Phew, I thought it could of been me till I read the 'young lad' and 'husky' bit! On a more serious note though, there does seem to be quite a few people running round here offering 'lopping and topping' at the moment. Quoted a very large Ash removal in watermouth the other week, over the main road (so TM required) and the location would require about 80% of it to be lowered. Put 2 days on it for 3 guys, tractor and trailer for timber and 2 guy on stop/go. Thought I would make quite a bit on the logs so quoted him £1100 which I thought was quite a good quote (for the customer) considering the arrangement involved...... The guy phoned to say someone offered to do it for free if they could have the wood!
  5. Not sure on the device, but rope wise 16mm will deal with most stuff, if you need bigger then it will probally be a crane job anyway!!!

  10. If someone works for you for more than 6mths of the year you are obliged to employ them on a F/T contract!
  11. Most customers still phone up asking for a tree to be lopped or topped though, its a matter of trying to educate the people! And as profesionals its up to us to do it!
