  1. We get a lot of stuff like that from the council. We did the TM and support for the recent European youth games in bideford, best part of 20 timed road closures and support of the opening and closing parade. It's all good fun, pays the bills and is a very good bit of local advertising. We do try to do tree work as well in our spare time
  2. Yep. Traffic management from 6am, and the first train passed us at about 6.30pm, finished about 10pm, hence the bored look on my face!
  3. My fox red lab! Total nutter.
  4. Yeah, that is my main concern, loads of trees due for removal that could be managed in a better way than just a big X painted on them!
  5. I'm now 30, and run the business with my (business) partner, we get help in when needed but mainly work by ourselves. We only started the company last year but if it carries on going like it is we may look at getting an apprentice in a couple of years, then I can ease off the climbing and go back and start doing reports and surveys etc and concentrate on getting the quotes and paperwork done a bit better!
  6. Interesting, I shall be in contact with the council agent for the area and ask if he knows about it, may even send him my quote as well
  7. Try Matt Shute (east Devon tree care) or pm 'gibbon' as he's known on here
  8. The same people who suggested the 10-6 idea are probably the ones who would moan about the noise at night! We had some grockels (tourists) moan about the noise when had to launch the lifeboat at 3am, apparently the noise of us firing the twin cat engines up and tearing off at full revs to help a sinking boat and search for 2 missing crew members spoilt their entire holiday!!!
  9. We have been working for highways all week and I have noticed there have been a lot of trees marked up with the usual letter attached from the council, the letters are signed by the area manager and in brackets next to the signature is a certain companies name? Is this usual practice on roadside trees that the company in question has authority to mark them up?
  10. yep will have it all, can send tractor. will call you later
  11. I think the ones in Newcastle are probably nothing to do with with the economy or cuts, but more to do with the way the board of nufc are destroying the football club!
  12. This was lastnights view from Appledore lifeboat station after excercise
  13. I've got a good recommendation, don't get one! We are forever towing them in with the lifeboat
  14. I know Coles plant hire (in north Devon!!!) have one they tow behind a hgv lorry, it's a crane fed Vermeer one and it's massive, have watched in amazement at the stuff it takes in!
  15. I would of bitten your hand off when I was at Broomfield, the only work I could find was barwork at wetherspoons in Ripley!!!
  16. If the 2nd job was the fremington conifers I quoted it at £1050, we had 4 guys on site in total (myself, neil, tractor and big trailer with driver/labour(£100) and chipper with opperator/labour(£200). we used priority boards as it was within the 30mph zone, and our yard is only round the corner (only 2 loads of timber with tractor, and 2 loads of chip), started at 9, finished at 2. So minus the tractor and chipper (£300 total) left us with £750 as a (part) day rate.
  17. I can vouch that this guy is a proper grafter, and a good climber too!
  18. we do a fair bit that way, quite a few big private houses with land. lot of farmers with chainsaws who work for the timber!
  19. Rubbing a bit of deep heat on the back of your hands before putting gloves on works a treat, warms all the little muscles between the bones and promotes blood flow, thus heat!
  20. I know the road well, looking at some bits up there for highways. There are also another couple of bits along that road further towards bideford that I may be looking to extract by boat as well due to the location, another interesting job!
  21. Im not delivering it, hes comming up to the yard to collect, will prob ask for £50 to be honest.
  22. For the right job, if we could of parked under the tree then we would not of used a crane, but you could not get anything much bigger than my kangoo van up the street in front of the house, let alone a transit and trailer, tractor with pto chipper and 12tonne grain trailer on, and the whole tree would have to of been taken through the house too, with full road closure:thumbdown: Cant remember what the total cost was but we had it on a weekend day due to closing the job center car park off, which cost a bit more. Will have a look at the invoice later.
  23. Was going to give all the timber away until Gibbon told me it was good burning wood! Have left it outside in the rain to wash excess sap out and will move it into the barn next year £££££ stove and kettle is always in the van, accompanied by frying pan for those middle of no-where bacon sarnies Bolt- Did you have Brian operating the crane?
  24. Hes just someone whos working in our village in north devon and driving back to derbyshire on friday!! seems a long way to drive back with a load of timber on to be honest but hey ho!
