    bt lines

We got called out to this the other week, got to site at 10am, contacted bt about cable and pole shortly after arriving, bt turned up at 3.45!!!!! Council told us to stay on site to monitor the traffic and road closure (yes people were still trying to drive under it). Anyway, bt guy just took a pair of bolt crops to the line and threw the line in the hedge and told us to winch out the pole and bill them for it.
  2. I dont wear them. I used to find them more of a hazard than anything else, they become slippery and I could never find a pair that fitted my stubby little club hands.
  3. Woke up this morning, felt full of flu and pretty knackerd from working all weekend, the weather is rubbish so decided to rearrange a nasty beech reduction and have a play with the timber pile and mates new toy.

    RIP Marco

Nasty, just saw it on you tube. Feel sorry for the guys that hit him, especially Edwards who was on the scene.
  5. I got stopped by the ea today, produced my carriers licence and was told that I needed an exception cert as well! And also all the places I tip my woodchip at (farms, allotments, garden centers etc) all needed to have another licence to receive it. I informed the agent that he may want to join arbtalk and answer us some questions
  6. I'm in north Devon, give us a shout if we can do anything to help down this way. We have/had some vast forests that are currently being shipped out from bideford, heading for Germany! I'm not that knowledgeable on forestry etc, but know a bit about trees in general.
  7. Ok, thanks. We should have everything set in place to go for it then, the business will of been running for 2 years come April 2012. Already doing work for local and parish councils as well as having 2 staff working almost permanently with highways, just need to tighten up on a few aspects, then ready to take on the 'local' big boys
  8. Is there on planned for Devon or south west?
  9. My baby (the dogs not bad either) ex sweb 110, full hydraulics and pto winch, side lockers 300tdi and runs like a dream. Will be a shame when the 130 tipper comes in jan may keep her just because!
  10. My baby has done over 225,000 miles and still going strong. Just had clutch done and Local mechanic charged £180(parts) and 2 loads of logs for the labour
  11. Bit of a trek from Appledore I'm afraid. Will have to settle with taking my boat out! Had lots of mackerel in the mouth of the river early this week, and some big bass caught off the south tail fishing with live joeys.
  12. Will put north Devon on the map.....when my laptop arrives!
  13. Yes, prices are different down here, We charge a reasonable day rate and still make a good profit. Others are charging way too much and have very little or no work, and of course there are a lot of door knockers about. That conifer job on the main road sounds familiar, was it holsworthy way????
  14. Or this one, my mates kid caught it from the shore a couple of days ago 11 1/2lb!
  15. That's a shame, I need to get one before 2nd of oct.
  16. Morning all, it's my mrs's birthday in a couple of weeks and she really wants a decent slr camera. I'm looking to spend around £300ish, and would like something she can take all her arty photos with! I know nothing about cameras, and any help would be gratefully received.
  17. I just got a pair of them Oregon wiki things on offer from jonsie and tbh I'm not that impressed with them ( through no fault of FR jones) they got a bit close to the exhaust of me 020 up a tree and caught light! Have a nice little nylon burn on my leg. Think I will be going back to the stretch airs after this!
  18. We've been told by south west highways to be 'available' for the next four days. 6 call outs in the last 2 weeks as well, happy days.
  19. Attach winch to highest point possible and then I tend to use the biggest length bar on the 66 and stand well clear when making cuts, normally clear obvious non intrusive limbs first, and slowly slowly catchy monkey until enough to winch over, and start the same process again.
  20. I quoted a nice job the other week where the customer said it was too expensive. Nice ash tree (big trailer of timber). Phoned her and said I would knock £40 off if she included bacon sarnies for the team in the morning, she jumped at the chance.
  21. Cheers for that, going to have a look thurs, the guy said he's spoke to Vermeer and they do a kit for it to bring it upto scratch
  22. We are going to look at one of these during the week. Am I right/wrong in guessing that emergency stop bar will determine weather it is hse compliaint, or are there some other bits to look for? I've only ever delt with newer timberwolfs etc that are pretty new and up to spec, but seen as we are only 17 months into running our own business I can't justify spending the cash on a tw150/190 just yet.
  23. It all depends on you geographical location. I've worked for a company in Leicester, one in Henley upon thames and now run my own in north Devon all day rate prices are different, although I wish I could get away with the day rate of the Henley company down here. This time next year rodders!
