Can i come and hold your carema sir justin, you wont have to pay me much either, tell Mr stihl he's a robbin Tw@t but his gear is good!
  5. Don't bother looking at condition of belt, it means nowt, a good looking belt can snap. Ny mates advice(he owns a garage and a **** hot machanic, ex jag and Aston Martin) is look a manafactures specs and knock 10k off, so if its due to be changed at 70k intervals do it at 60k that way you have a good margin, he told a disco owner this a few years ago and the owner turned his nose up as though he was trying to rip him off, 6 months later it was in for a total top end rebuild, cost him 3 times the amount of a belt job. I have mine done at 60k intervals, book says 70k, never had any problems at all.
  6. Out of interest what is the going price to grind out an average size stump? Whats the av size stump????? I wont take the grinder out for less than 50 quid and then it has to be local, it all depends on the size access and what it is, did a 4 foot oak stump for 200 quid once, took a good while as oak is hard and goosed a set of teeth so thats another hour back home on the grinder sharning them up again. I will knock a few quid off work hear and there but i wont barter on grinding as it can be hard work and they can cost a lot to keep in good condition. Theres a Landscape bloke near me that advertises "the cheapest grinding in Leeds" i laff when i read his adds and let him get on with it, his machine is out much more than mine doing smaller stuff but when his is knackered and he's made no money doing it i can get more work and a better price.
  7. If you not running it every day and only doing small stuff whats wrong with a brand new ms181 with a 12" bar? under 300 quid as well.
  8. V nice Tom and Jon, very good workmanship there boys.
  9. When tendering for work what i do is take the last 4 numbers of the last customes phone number and put a decimal point in where i think they can afford it. Normally works for me.
  10. Thanks for that, im with simon, im gonna stay away from poole in summer! where do we stand with Magpies and pigeons (flying rats) and doves?
  11. Hi Ray and welcome to the forum, why do you want such an expensive machine when your only going to use it now and again, With the running costs of grinders and depretiation i think it will be cheaper for you to carry on getting someone in, and let there machine take the pain! the only reason i have a grinder is so i can offer the full arb service to customers and it has got me a few jobs where the punter whats the full job doing. IMO there aint a lot of money in grinding unless you one of the big firms thats doing it all the time. Laying out 7k on a machine and getting 2k back in a year minus running casts and breakdowns, teeth etc goes to show the returns!
  12. I would say the customer ownes the timber until you have driven off with it however if you have spent time and money milling it and they want to keep it then you need to bill them for the milling service.
  13. My Greenmech 220 is light BLUE! was first customers colours, damb good chipper IMO and well engineered. Not like that Jensen rubbish......That al wind woodpicker up.
  14. The collage should provide ALL you need to pass the course, ask them what you get first.
  15. Av mounts came on saws in the early 80s or there abouts. new stuff is even better and the bg86 blower is rated for use almost constantly.
  16. Pete, im doing bags only now and get 1M3 bags, they have an inner lining in them with vents in so no logs touch the outer bags, if i slashed the sides and bottom and store them as you said do you think they will be ok to split into and season in the bag? would save a lot of work but i don't want mouldy logs in 12 months time.
  17. Its the only way stevie me boy, Loades of tyres, pallets and some diesel to set er off with and down she comes...............DID YA LIKE THAT?
  18. Its called RIP OFF BRITIAN.........simples! A lot of stihl gear now is made in china, blowers and domestic says and hedge trimmers were coming out of china the last time i spoke to a stihl guy. We do have more reg and bull to contend with and that will push the price up.
  19. :001_tt2:Good luck Steve, am sure you willdo fine. How about a big tree, ya willneed one of them aswell!
  20. POW what sort of Hoss power is the Ford 8200? great tractor and a beast in its day, we had a 8100 2wd when me grandad was farmin, that was a big un in its day aswell when mf135s and ford 4600 ruled! Love to get an 8100 just to put the splitter on bit over killbut cool.
  21. There on the win win side though Dean, yours stated "market value not exceeding 12k" how you going to aguee if "the market" has dropped say a newer model has come out or we hit a recession! Insurance companys are one of the few services that have there cake and eat it on a very regular basis! Also getting a direct replacment is harder than it might seem and they dont have to rush to do it, we need the vehicle to work so more often than not go for the easy option so they win again..............bloody sharks, most of em.
  22. Thats why i like pro kit, its the long term vib white finger/HAV thing that worries me. A mate of mine (not a tree surgeon) keeps going on about a guy he knows (tree surgeon) and why i buy new kit whilst this other guy still uses a 15 yr old top handle, as though he's a bit of a hero or sommat, i keep tellin him it will catch up when he's old. Vibration is a major issue IMO.
  23. Very nice, that will work good for ya mate. Deffo a Landline number, People like to know you have a base, mine is diverted to mobile anyway so i don't miss em.
  24. Really sorry to hear Dave and good to see your taking it so well, thats the piece of mind insurance give you, i dont trust insurance companys though after my break ins, i lost about 8k in total and they wriggled out on small print, there next up the peckin order the theivin scum IMO have changed insurance now to NFU, hope i dont have to put them to the test!
