  1. In theory you can just plumb the boiler into the existing open vented system but its not quite that simple. If the conventional boiler is running your back boiler will act as a radiator, when the back boiler is working the conventional ought to just pump without burning. I looked into it when I was in the same situation as you, but working with a combi boiler there is a gizmo that makes it all work but it was expensive and looked pretty complicated so I went with the (for me) simple option and fitted the back boiler as a second open vented system. It works well, if the fire is out I can just flick a switch and we are warm until the fire is lit. Of course someone with 10 hours of "heatas" training will be along shortly to warn of dire consequences, lack of insurance and suchlike:001_rolleyes:
  2. Here is a tip, the fault will be wherever the oil is coming out:laugh1:
  3. Have you put the grinder back together and more importantly, have you cleaned your crap off HER drive?
  4. Did a bit of work on a mates broken stump grinder, lending the workshop to another mate in need tomorrow and wrapping the gaffers Christmas present
  5. Would that be a petrol engine???? Yuk nasty, no such thing as red petrol:lol:
  6. That's shocking you cant take that on the road with cross ply and radials on the same axle
  7. Spot on, although there are regular punters with some unrealistic price expectations:laugh1:
  8. You can always tell a Yorkshire man, But you cant tell him much:001_tt2:
  9. Ha ha, get your company name tattooed over your back:laugh1:
  10. Nothing so permanent as a temporary job:thumbup:
  11. I think the pay is on the money (no pun intended) , but if it were looking for a job there are a couple of things in your advert that would give me cause for thought. A foremans job is a supervisor, what you seem to be looking for is a climber who can set up a job and supervise while doing the climbing. Now there are plenty of sole trader arbs out there who do that as a daily grind but its a big ask for a PAYE bloke, so if that is what you are looking for you might have to dig a bit deeper financially. A couple of other points that stand out and seem at odds, climbing kit allowance? As an employer you have to buy that anyhow, same with PPE. Potential employees begin to assess the employer while reading the advert and those points will stand out. Just my thoughts
  12. Blow back is caused by having the chipper to close, a mesh roof will just have your vehicle covered in fines and dust
  13. Oh gawd, I feel sick:laugh1::laugh1: I bet you eat sprouts as well
  14. Yuk Mince pies is what they do with dead flies in winter
  15. The thing to stop it eating UJ's is to NOT chip it up as far as it will go then apply the right boot with enthusiasm. Repetitions to failure, use things at their limits and they will fail earlier than otherwise, Eh John?
  16. Its all a bit moot anyhow, If I know Simon at all that tree I someone's firewood now:laugh1:
  17. Where ply will deform and bounce back (within reason) 3mm ally treadplate will just distort around the bearers and go "wavey".
  18. Don't do that, it will just make you annoying and look like you don't listen Ask once, learn and practice, ask a peer to review your efforts and take advice on board.
  19. Or you can work smarter and put a tag line on it to stop it getting stuck and or smashing into the concrete
  20. So the first thing you need to do is decide what the machine is going to be used for, once you have this information you can go about deciding its specification I notice you have a ram and have even decided it weighs 16.5 ton. I say this quite flippantly knowing you are referring to the force of the ram but you cant know how much force it will exert until you decide what pressure you are going to run it at. Building a system around an existing ram often leads to disappointment. Many simply aren't suitable and in an effort to get it to move quickly a large pump leads to a lot of unwanted heat in the system. So which tank? Whats the duty cycle?
  21. Dunno, most trees are just chipper fodder to me
  22. It depends on what specification you have for the pump. 180L is a huge tank but if you are running a big pump at maximum duty cycle with no cooler then it might not be out of the way, if however, say the duty cycle is lower the heat build up wont be anything like the same. Rather than a huge (expensive) tank and a couple of hundred quids worth of oil your money would probably be better spent in a much smaller tank with an oil cooler As I said much depends on the duty cycle, if you are only using your machine for a couple of hours at a time, provided the oil doesn't get too hot all will be well, if it does get too hot you can always add an oil cooler later
