  1. It depends on what specification you have for the pump. 180L is a huge tank but if you are running a big pump at maximum duty cycle with no cooler then it might not be out of the way, if however, say the duty cycle is lower the heat build up wont be anything like the same. Rather than a huge (expensive) tank and a couple of hundred quids worth of oil your money would probably be better spent in a much smaller tank with an oil cooler As I said much depends on the duty cycle, if you are only using your machine for a couple of hours at a time, provided the oil doesn't get too hot all will be well, if it does get too hot you can always add an oil cooler later

  6. That's a self defeating argument, dead cats are noted for having trouble holding on to trees and would fall to the ground.
  7. What the industry needs is a college output that.......... Knows how to drag brash and feed a chipper, more than one branch at a time and without a mobile in the other hand. Knows how to tie the basic knots properly, first time without asking "is that right?" in the weakest plaintive voice they can muster. Knows how to sharpen a saw, properly and in reasonable time. Knows that just because they managed to pass a couple of simple "don't kill yourself with a chainsaw" tests, they aren't automatically worth top dollar wages. The ones you can get them to that, "ready for work" standard, they can have further education, a climbing harness, driving and trailer licence and all those other goodies:laugh1:

  12. There is little to be gained by picking over the bones of REPORTED actions The salient point for me is that the fact that the HSE prosecuted the main contractor means they consider the responsibility lies there.
  13. There has been much discussion about who is responsible in a contractor, freelancer relationship The HSE think its is the contractor Contractor fined after worker?s tree fall | Media centre - HSE

  18. Well if he wont give you the job based on the kit that's for you to either comply or walk FTR the HSE says the first aid kit should be appropriate to the risk in the profession, I think 4 CAT's is over doing it somewhat, what are you expecting?

  20. I will buy the tree in pic 2 as long as it comes with the wallet and there is at least 200 quid in it
  21. Knock the tyre off and patch it yourself
  22. Definition of service If the other bloke says, here is a tree to cut down, use your own kit and men and do it in your own time then you are a bona fide sub contractor and you are legally required to hold your own employers liability (EL) for your staff, and while you don't legally require public liability (PL) you would be wise to have it and the main contractor can insist as a term of the contract. If the other bloke says, we are stuck for a climber, come down and put this tree on the ground for us, my boys will chip and clear then you are an employee for the day, you are on the other blokes PL insurance and covered by his EL.
  23. Bragging and ego:laugh1:
