  1. Lets get away from hiding behind agriculture, tree surgery isn't agriculture, stop comparing the two. The fact that a mainstream dealer hasn't promoted this specific idea ought to tell you something.

  3. There are 2 forces in play here, there is what the manufacturer is happy for you to do with the product and the LOLER regs. If the item were otherwise allowable under LOLER but were out of date by the manufacturers recommendations, it fails under that criteria and fails under LOLER for being outside the manufacturers recommendations.

  5. Its a bit on the big side for my preference, it doesn't fit in the lockers for one thing and I find that "junk" expands to fit space available.
  6. Vosa will be the least of your worries, in the event of an accident plod are going to look at it in detail. They are likely to decide that what you were doing was in effect road haulage regardless of what the rig is registered as. Then they are going to look at the road haulage world to see if a rule or precedent exists for what you are doing and they aren't going to find one, (when did you see a haulage contractor with a digger bolted to the front of a truck?) Then they are going to look at the axle weight issue that you so casually blew off earlier in this thread which is an issue you do need to clarify. Its going to look like what it is, you are carrying the digger in a highly unconventional manner (for a digger) in order to save time and money and that's when things are going to get ugly. I am sure these words aren't going to stop you but please make sure your insurance company is informed, word perfect of what you are doing. Slippery buggers that they are..... Why not put the digger on a trailer and drag that with a longer drawbar?

  12. Thank you john, I am aware of front linkages and suchlike. While the linkage might be rated for that kind of weight and while a farmer might be fine crawling around a field with those kind of loads, what we are talking about here is road haulage rather than agriculture. Its what's allowed on the road, not what the modern steroid tractor can lift and if you spank your tractor along a highway at 50k with that kind of weight on front you might just be considered reckless. Just because it can don't mean you should:thumbdown:,

The first thing that jumps out at me is that while a tractor implement on a 3PL is part and parcel of the vehicle operation, hanging a link box affair to carry kit not associated with the prime mover leaves you more of a job for justification. It probably wont be an issue unless you are involved in an accident at which point the other sides lawyer is going to make you look like a fat kid who caused an accident because he couldn't see over the huge pile of buns he was carrying. Construction and use (as others have said) must be complied with.

  18. The tree needs leaves, much ivy equals few leaves, the tree dies when its got no leaves but its in a poor state long before that

  20. Better to look at the step in technique, a prussic, blakes, klemheist and others all have the same basic technique which you will be familiar with. Moving to a hitch climber set up moves to a different technique and is a more sensitive system to work with, it would be a step change in your working system. Moving on to mechanical devices, you are generally in the same techniques as the HC system but removing the variable of the friction chord makes them much more constant. If you are ready to move on the logical progression is the HC system, if you aren't already, try it as a lanyard set up to get accustomed before you change your main friction system.
  21. We had one in Germany with an eberspacher hot air unit that could be diverted into the engine bay and left on a timer. It warmed the engine for a couple of pfenigs worth of diesel, lovely warm motor easy to start, less stress on the battery, starter and suchlike. It got proper cold in Berlin
