  1. Sadly its not quire as simple as that, the old school en397 lid often has a nicker elastic chin strap but it entirely lacking lateral protection and as such is unsuitable for use with rope access. Its the lateral protection (as well as suitable means of keeping it on yer napper) that makes it suitable for climbing
  2. Appreciate that, just trying to keep it on an even keel for you. Nothing worse than an unexpected expense. You will need to get a LOLER inspection, that is to say you ought to have one for anything you use commercially.
  3. Or not, the biners used in commercial arb need to be 3 way locking.
  4. It is not uncommon in decayed willow. It has the same consistency of the mycelial sheath that you find under the bark so I was always of the opinion that its compressed mycelia.
  5. Who says there is a line to be drawn and if there is who should draw it? Plenty of people on here get vocal about regulation, do you want more?
  6. This reliability thing is, as Dean said, mostly down to maintenance. Compared to the 2WD alternatives there is a bit more to go wrong with a land rover, and they do tend to get "used" a bit harder than a 2WD, driving a transit tends to be all tarmac and there isn't half as much scope for abuse as when you get in the mud particularly with inexperienced drivers. Others take a used vehicle and put it to hard work and then are surprised when things break. The long and short is work it hard and keep on top of the maintenance.
  7. My bad, it must have been this specific description of that mans actions that confused me. I didn't realise you intended to take the pee out of anyone who learns anything from you tube, its how I (and others) learned to splice rope
  8. It was bought as an access line and I tried it out on a few other things, "like you do". Need more big trees to make it worth its space on the truck.
  9. It wasn't that long ago that you were on this forum getting all arsey with the world and Myerscough college, mostly because YOU didn't understand what was going on. No one took the piss out of you they helped you out, its not even like you were ever on top of your game and in a position to take the piss. I will be spending my money somewhere that isn't you.
  10. Before you ridicule people think back to your first job, did you make a cock of it? If you didn't its only because you had someone showing to stop you. How would you have taken that stem on with nothing more than that weedy little saw?
  11. That's not even a mornings work so 250 isn't a cheap price.
  12. That's a pretty simple carb, if all the bits are there it should go again
  13. And what kind of an investment would a tenners worth of history be in tree work? Buy yourself this and get byzantine tree works Tree Surgery., Bridgeman, Peter H., Acceptable Book 0715370502 | eBay
  14. Weak and ineffectual Real men use the 038 Magnum Seriously though the 38's were good saws, once front line saws by modern standards the power to weight ratio isn't there but they will plod forever if you look after them
  15. HA ha, the VOSA guy said they had to take 2 tons off the transit to bring it legal, I got the last ten bags and three of those were split.
  16. I have been using this for a couple of weeks now, on a long drop it hocked up a bit when it was new (hitchclimber) but its behaving itself now Satisfactory but not exceptional Yale Hedera 11mm climbing rope | F R Jones and Son
  17. I once managed to win a dozen bags of builders sand that someone had to unload to get down to weight, two weeks on the owner hadn't collected and the VOSA man was glad to see the back of them
  18. Incredible, the consensus from the vocal minority here is that the VOSA man is a semi trained halfwit
  19. I pass a checkpoint regularly and while a stop can be a PITA if you are on the way to meet a customer I don't mind in the least.
  20. Loving it.......
  21. You need to speak to Mike about that
  22. Is there a theme to the pictures, like best injury I inflicted by a silky?
  23. Its clearly the pointy end up because this proprietary gadget wont fit the fat end:laugh1:
  24. Is the answer Hornbeam? and eggs should be scrambled to disguise that awful slimy white bit
  25. If you rock up to work and he tells you what to do the law regards you as his employee so his ELCI will cover you and his PL will cover what you do. Anything else is sub contract and you would be wise to have your own insurances
