  1. Maybe a bit insensitive here, and hope everybodys ok. Hows access problems on the roads, thinking of heading up to paddle a couple rivers that you can only do in spate. Don't want to add to the chaos though....... R
  2. I'd do them for 100 a tree, reckon I could get both of those golf carts in pic 4 with 8 trees to practice with. Ask him to check quotes are for the same thing, and move on!
  3. Another vote for NFU, kicked Trusts premiums right out the window. Just be careful about what you get off them. I am full covered for any tree but somepeople end up with a height restriction or lack of stump grinding etc on the policy. R
  4. I love it. Nice one. 5% either way of 15% I reckon. Nicely done, hope previous post didn't come across as critism, after re-reading it, it may have done. Certainly wasn't intended. R
  5. There seems to be a lot of ladders lying about the place in the piccies, were they for the lower down smaller bits? I'd be well happy with that if that was my first one. Just out of interest what was the reason for the reduction? Looking at the tree a crown thin may have been a good alternative - not slating you at all just wondering what I'd have suggested doing to it. How did you find getting the stuff on the ground without getting it all hung up? R
  6. 38 can be done in any boots, but if your going to be using chainsaw boots, why not start from the outset doing so. Same for trousers. Will mean you realise limitations of movement, harness comfort etc.....
  7. I've got a mower you can borrow, when do we start?
  8. Can be the cheapest way to park........... Three and a half weeks away, walk into the terminal explain that you've just lost your ticket but have only been there 10mins. Nice girl behind counter explains that your liable for full days parking at £35 quid, have a bit of an argument saying that its unfair lalalala but reluctantly you'll pay it. Hey presto a tenner a week, not at all bad. P.S It doesn't work a second time round.....................
  9. You need to approach local tree surgeons really and ask them if they can drop some wood off for you when you see them about. When you say their overpriced, what you actually mean is that they're already processed. If you look at the cost of picking it up, and the time taken to process is you'll find your hourly rate to be quite poor. Not to mention the fact you've gota store if for a year to season it. R
  10. I'd disagree with some of the comments, sold as seens doesn't give you a leg to stand on. What you must be is open and honest and sell a vehicle in reasonable condition for it's age and mileage. Which is exactly what you've done so I wouldn't worry on this occassion at all. Just bear it in mind that people can have some comeback from selling used vehicles. R
  11. Cheers, I must admit I'll quite happily spend a morning on it as it's sometimes easier to be better off by saving money than earning it!!
  12. Mines due start of december, that reminds me best start looking............... R
  13. If you go deep enough it does help them rot down. Before I started doing treework about 5 years ago one firm did it on a site. Those stumps are well on the way to rotting now, the others that didn't have that done are still there. But in fact I've just had an order number to grind them so happy days!! R
  14. It sounds like they've had quite a few claims this year though, so I guess not that surprising that the price is going up and up
  15. The wire for gasless is a lot more expensive, but it's not like he's talking about doing a lot of welding so the cost of the consumables is not really that relevant. Agree with the comments about keeping the wire dry, but it's not hassle to take it off when you use it. I've got an arc welder and to be honest it hardly gets used whereas the gasless mig does get quite a bit of use. He's already said that he farms out the bigger structural welding jobs. Sounds like the reason I brought mine for. My weldings not that good, but It's been used numerous times on bits and pieces. The towbar I did the other day I welded up with tacks and then got the bloke down the road to do it properly. Worked nicely. Just my thoughts R
  16. If I were you I'd be tempted by a gasless mig welder, don't need to worry about gas and is pretty compact, and I reckon easier to learn than an arc welder, or at least easier to get ok results from in a short space of time. Depends what thickness your looking to weld up though. R
  17. I uploaded a load of tat the other day and had problems, just kept trying and eventualy it worked. Didn't do anything differently. R
  18. My other company that I'm more a less silent partner in do a lot of work in at the MOD estates in Tidworth and Bulford down that way if it's near you and I'm sure we could quote you. I honestly don't know if we'd be competitive or not, but you'd have it all in writing within the timescale agreed. Rob
  19. Follow it up so that muppets learn that they can't enter a legally binding agreement and not follow it through. I've started court action against the buyer that brought my bike and didn't pay or contact me. He's not got long left to reply and I'll aske for judgement which will give him a ccj. Probably won't get any money but I'll feel better for it. R
  20. Hoping we might get a day in at Lecht or Cairngorm over new year - Haven't the past couple of years....... Will probably get a last minute deal out to somewhere end of jan/start of feb. Seem to have been some very good deals out there past couple of years if your not fussy on resort in advance. R
  21. Did you manage to get a source for this? Anybody know where I can get some close to Liverpool. My old box axle trailer is well over due a new floor and I reckon that would be a better replacement than ply. Thanks Rob
  22. Yer would be nice to here it from the horses mouth. But I think as long as you can show you've shown reasonable steps to ensure things go right you should be ok. I'd be grateful if you'd give me a shout if you do get any decent jobs come up. Rob
  23. So you would do it then:confused1:
  24. Yep fully see where your coming from and I don't know the answers, which is what this forum is useful for, as there will always be someone with more experience with me. As for subbing out tree work that's what the insurance company said I needed contractors liability for so hopefully I was covered at the time despite not doing work myself. As for the insured climber, I think I'll leave that as a grey area but make sure my arse is covered by ensuring that my insurance fully covers me!! As for the other points you've raised they are very valid. The satelite dish being an interesting one as I do pass on maintenace work across to my other company that I rarely have any physical involvement with, most of the time that company invoices, but occassionally I've put it throught the grounds company but I suppose I know they are both insured so shouldn't have repercussions. I had a health and safety audit of one of my clients (mitie) and it's scary what they reckon you are responsible for. He was suggesting that I am responsible for checking that the garage I use for vehicle servicing should be audited by my company to check they are competent, he also said that as I was a company I had to be careful with what work was carried out at home as I could be in position where I am liable contractors doing their job that I know nothing about. When I asked how I could deal with that he suggested employing someone that knew about that job - It really is a minefield and I won't be doing things 100percent right. I can only show as much diligence as I can and hope for the best. From your last example I would be very surprised if your insurance company managed to get out of a 3rd party claim, rightly or wrongly thats another debate, a bit like the payouts because of points on a licence,dd etc. And that is where from my point of view the contractors liabilty is so important as it should give me 'a cushion' that I have subbed work out. If not well I'll need a JCB to dig me out the sticky stuff! R P.S I've got a few jobs at a site in Weston in about 2 weeks so I'll be stopping at my parents in Stonehouse if you've got any interesting rigging jobs that I can come and watch/help with. PPS I've got my own insurance.............lol
  25. No they wanted it block paving - so i used the woodchip instead of harcore as it would make it settle better:001_tt2:
