  1. Do tell........ I'd be interested to hear? R
  2. I'd disagree with that. In court they need to prove you have done something wrong beyond reasonable doubt. If I was dodgy I could go and do whatever I wanted and I reckon the chances of being convicted are about 1 percent or less. As I'm not I will be doing it properly but I can see why people just get on with it as the system - which needs to be there is wide open to abuse. Especially in this case. To all others you've confirmed what I've thought application in, get result and work from there. R
  3. LA won't do a site visit unless it's a dangerous tree in which case I either put in a five day notice, or photograph it and send them a covering letter after the event to cover my arse. How do others get on with the planning portal, I've found it to be far simpler to complete paper copies and hand them in, had a few problems doing it online. R
  4. Don't worry I'll definitely have whatever I need in writing, nearly got stung years ago - never again. As i've got to put an application in anyway I'm just going to put everything on it. If necessary then I can argue about it afterwards. Just seemed a bit strange. All the times I've dealt with area TPO's in different counties they at least have a list of all the trees that should be there, these apparently haven't at all. Cheers for the advice anyway. Rob
  5. Just been to look at a job. Involves removal of a few small trees less than 5years old, and removal of a large lime tree. Rung the council to check on the status of TPO/Conservation area and they say it is covered by an area TPO made in 1973 meaning that anything planted after that can be removed. They also said that they haven't got a list of the trees that were included in the order. Seems a bit strange, how would they know how old the tree I've removed is? I've got a feeling I may be getting duff advice over the phone, anybody got any ideas where I actually stand? The lime is going to need an app, but unsure about the smaller trees? R
  6. I'm 2 and a half years behind aswell...............
  7. Is it actually a mower as well? I used to have a little pto chipper on the back of my small ride on. R
  8. Speak to them if you haven't could be that they've had their cheque book stolen/lost and cancelled it including your cheque. You don't know anything till you've spoken to them. Apologies if you've already done this. R
  9. Unfortunately it may be a bit more complicated than this. To do it properly you'd need to have a non combustible base for it to sit on, use twin wall pipe that doesn't go nearer than 60mm to any combustible surface. I'd go through the roof with a flashing kit, and make sure the distance above the roof is good enough to get a decent draw, 6 ft in total may not be quite enough. Having said that if it's a shed that you are going to be in I'd be tempted to do whatever and just buy a piece of asbestos sheet to use as a register plate. Normally wood to close will not ignite just smoulder. Depends on it's use really...................... R
  10. Quite possibly did pass it. Would love to live and work somewhere like that, who knows what the future may bring!!!! Have fun and if your short staffed I could be persuaded up that way for a week or two................... R
  11. I was up in Nethybridge over new year, lovely place. Although the minibus battery didn't like the cold :sneaky2: Watched a branch come off a tree by the post offfice due to the weight from the snow. Awesome sight. There was a lot of snow on the roofs though, with the gutters being dragged off by the weight from it. Awesome site walking up the river. Is life as idealic as it seems up there? R
  12. Ditto, although you probably could physically fit a bigger bar but wouldn't work that well at all. Bigger saw time..................
  13. It's a simple equation. How much do you want/need to earn a day add on your costs, labour and machinery etc. Theres your figure. How much I'd want to earn would depend on how much work I had on, how much hassle it was going to be, how much work i'd turn down because of it etc etc. As a ball park figure I'd suggest £500ish a day for what you've described above. Don't forget the mileage and time it can take to get to the job/drive past on the other side and turn round etc etc. Try not to go in to cheap, it's not good for any of us................ R
  14. Another for draining the water out of the fuel filter here. R
  15. It has indeed, they're in the folder somewhere. I'll double check that there spec's correct though when it comes through......... Rob P.s Didn't get back to you about chipper as he'd sold the business with chipper etc as a going concern. Have you got grinder up and running?
  16. To 76AR: Thanks, I thought that would be the case, shame we didn't do it when we did all the other concrete work, would have been easier......... To dandkgroundcare: Good tip, got stung by that once before, had to have it all re-welded - PITA. It should have it all in the job spec, if it doesnt I'll ask them for it, or provide them with a spec for the work and get a reply off them confirming that's what they want, covers my arse..... R
  17. The Beer Prayer Our lager, Which art in barrels, Hallowed be thy drink. Thy will be drunk, (I will be drunk), At home as it is in the tavern. Give us this day our foamy head, And forgive us our spillage, As we forgive those who spill against us. And lead us not to incarceration, But deliver us from hangovers. For thine is the beer, the bitter, and the lager. Barmen
  18. Just been asked to do a job for someone I do some work for. Removal of a conifer tree (straight fell through a gateway - If I've got the balls...... And a ramp up to a porta cabin building. Just wondering if any of you guys had done this before. It's something that I've done similar of before but not in quite the same way. The ground that it is going on is concrete, and about a foot deep so I can build off that. Was planning to build an appropriate wall out of blocks to shape. Would I need to fill the whole thing with concrete or could I get away with crush upto about 6 inches below then concrete it. Makes a big difference to the price!! Might be that they can get a grant for it from the local council as it's for wheelchair access. R
  19. Blooming heck there's a lot of people that have got that bloke for a neighbour:thumbup: I've heard it a few times, but still makes me smile
  20. The video appears to be missing?
  21. Trouble is you get those conditions a lot where they are, you can end up not working for weeks if you won't work in that. Not pleasant though admittedly! R
  22. :congrats::congrats: Providing of course that what we've read in the press is accurate
  23. We grit some of our estates. I've got a little tow behind gritter. On the site's there are grit bins provided. We shovel the grit out of them and tow it along behind the compact or more recently just use the van/car. Can be a pain in the arse though, what's the trigger for gritting? I have two thermometers that the residents or security can read then we'll go off that. Normally doesn't get done till the evening when you want to be having tea/a beer etc. You'll never get rich doing it but it is an extra string to the bow, especially if you can find someone semi-retired to go and do it for you. R
