  1. I can imagine. Do you find it has affected day to day doing stuff? R
  2. No worries, where did you pick the chipper up from, what kind of conditions it in, and the cheeky one, how much? Half thinking of upgrading mine this year work dependant........ R
  3. Not that cheap - you seen the price of fuel recently:cursing:
  4. Sorry as I said it wasn't supposed to come across as criticism at all. On the ears it was more on the fell that I noticed it. It always amazes me how big you can need them on willow. Thats what I thought would be the case with that limb, and it worked job done. As you said job done ready to fight another day. Nice one R
  5. The place I get my standards from had their forks failed on the loler inspection, the new ones were exactly the same. Needless to say they now use a different loler inspector for that bit of kit. Do you use the tirfor and winch for lifting, I'd wouldn't necessary have put them under loler, a bit like pull ropes really? R
  6. Cheers for the advice, bit embarrassing really:blushing: Never mind draining the fuel, well worth putting some in it in the first place:thumbup1:
  7. Bit hard to picture, Broken back after landing flat of a waterfall drop. R p.s He's a yorkshireman and he made us take his paddling gear off so they wouldn't cut it off in hospital!
  8. Only if it's used........ A lot of firms now won't let you change a wheel. When I used to drive a minibus you'd often get a spare wheel and no jack or wrench. I'd pop a jack in just in case, came in useful once, especially soon as there aa card was well hidden!
  9. SO we've got the normal ones, glass hammer, left handed screw driver, bucket of steam, skyhook, long wait for the end of the rope etc. Some good ones not as commonly known. Send the missus to get the air changed in the car tyres at kwik fit, don't let her take her purse or it may backfire when she comes back with 4 new tyres, an exhaust and set of brakes............. Also get her to check the oil, and top up, through the dipstick hole......... The keen young lad asking what a HT lead is, explain that it's a lead thats got to be really tight in the engine. Send them to the local motor factors for a tension setter to check the tension of the lead. Sure they are hundred more, let have them R
  10. My climbings not the best, but getting better all the time. I'm asking these questions to try and improve myself, and im sitting here nice and warm watching and rewatching the vid with loads of time to analyse it, not up the tree getting the job done. The limb that hit the fence panel was quite very big and the rigging did not really do a lot for it. Could you not have got further out on it and rigged it smaller, or was the rigging more so that it couldn't go bouncing off towards the motorway? Would 'ears' have helped with the rips? I did a willow yesterday trimmed back to a fenceline and found it really helped. How much pressure was there on you to get it done quick. I.e if it was a back garden tree where you could have spent all day on it would you have done things differently? I know when it's a commercial environment rightly or wrongly we do things differently to working for mrs jones on that estate round the corner. Anyways job done so nice one, as you said all came home safe to fight another day. R
  11. Plus a risk assessed means of access..............................
  12. Oh and paddling wise I'm not a good bed. In this one the winchman asked me to look after his helment whilst he was prepping my mate to be airlifted, seemed the safest place to put it:
  13. Erm well er:blushing: Nah, should have said Kayaking incident, snapped my paddle in the alps, was an interesting swim to say the least. Then a long walk out!! Not sure how the rock got on on the river - Must have come off worse!
  14. As the title says really, I know we all secretly like these gross pictures. I'll start with:
  15. Well I don't think we could have found anything heavier in the garden:001_tt2:
  16. I know exactly what you mean:cursing: Really dislike the blame culture we're in. Subconsciously I must have been thinking of that, as what I've actually done is to back up what they've done, as the tree had actually grown round the string and nails:confused1: that they'd used last year. So the weight is not on my effort but there's if that makes sense? Plus I tied the knots how can it fail:001_tt2:
  17. Putting up a fence the other day got asked to test out a hammock they'd put up. Re attached it anyway as I wasn't happy with the way they'd done it with the wife being pregnant. Next job is fence going in down the left hand side of the picture. R
  18. Here's a pic of the old one that came out, sure the replacement was 038, chipper 200mile away at the minute so can't check I'm afraid. R
  19. Not sure if yours is the same as mine, but I'm sure it's running an 036 or 038 battery from any car spares shop. I went into halfords with the old one and just matched one off the shelf, it worked out under £30 quid but i've got a discount card which helps considerably in there. It's the same battery that is supposed to fit my rascal truck if that helps? Is 200mm the max dimension, i think my space was slightly over that 220mm? Any pics of what you've got? Still haven't got round to doing mine properly it's been 2 busy working............ R

    Cheap chains!

Those are cheapy cheap. Whats the difference between stihl chain and oregon chain, is there a difference in the angle 10degrees up maybe? R
  21. Bar stewards. Sorry to hear that happened to you again mate. U know what i've got if you need to borrow anything short term. R
  22. Looks lethal............ But I like it!
  23. Not exactly tree related but I reckon I'll get an answer anyway. I can't get my cement mixer started, briggs engine. Now before I start taking it apart checking for spark, changing fuel etc can someone remind me which is the choke and throttle levers and which way round they are. I remember it only starts if you get it right first time and I can't for the life of me remember the settings. Need it for a job on sunday. I'll work it out if no one knows off the top of their heads. Cheers Rob
  24. Yer I was only messing. It wouldn't work without everybody. Regiment looked like good fun but it wasn't going to happen at the time. R
