  1. For once I've managed to find some info on the web quite quickly. I have looked before but went throught the caravanning club website thingy which leads you there: Towing capacity/weight. 1. How can I find out the towing capacity of my car? A car that has EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA) will have a Vehicle Identification Number plate (VIN plate) bearing the vehicle manufacturer's name, chassis number and an approval number including the letter "e" in a small rectangle. This plate is usually located under the car's bonnet, but it can sometimes be located in other positions, for example near the driver's door. The plate will look something like this: VIN No (This is sometimes called the chassis number and it is unique to that specific vehicle) XXXX KG (The maximum vehicle weight, e.g. the total weight, it does not include any trailer weight) XXXX KG (The maximum train weight, vehicle plus trailer) 1.XXXX KG (maximum load front axle) 2.XXXX KG (maximum load rear axle) So if for example you have a car with a maximum weight of 2180 kg and a train weight of 3980 kg the maximum towing capacity will be 3980 kg minus 2180 kg which gives a towing capacity of 1800kg This information may also be found in the vehicle handbook, or from a vehicle specification sheet supplied by the manufacturer.   3. I was sort of assuming that, but we all know assume makes an ass out of u and me............... I find there's quite enough power in mine, anymore and I'd be in even more trouble points wise......... I find it much easier to tow the bigger trailers behind it. R
  4. I've been wondering that I know that mine with bits and pieces in comes in at about 2400kgs. Mines the 3.3 not 3.5t, max train weight is 5300kgs, does that mean I can tow upto 2900kg? Ifso that makes me a lot happier about what I can do legally. R
  5. How close to the weight limit do you reckon you are there? I'm just wondering as I've just brought a tipping trailer and I don't think I can carry much behind my master in it. R
  6. Don't forget it's worth having a kit put on, as a failed tensioner will have the same effect as a snapped belt.......... That reminds me mines nearly due on the van again.............
  7. The interval is very high on those vehicles, I personally wouldn't leave it that long. Also vauxhall do actually have somehthing in their service intervals about delivery drivers, driving instructors, ie round town having shorter service intervals for oil, possibly for cambelt to. It's not a lot of money in the big scheme of things, and you'll probably only do it once on that car.......... R

  9. Ah cool, I was worried then about what mine was doing.................... My vivaro used to get similar mpg to your T5, that was when it wasn't in limp home mode - I'll never get a new van ever again.....................

  11. Why's were you appalled, was it misrepresented? I've sold stuff on ebay that has failed/wouldn't pass due to age etc on ebay. I always made it clear that's the reason for me getting rid of it though. Got another harness that I will probably put on it in march when my next loler is due. It's still useful to someone, and some beer pennies for me, rather than just binning it. R

  13. Just wondering how that VAT works, surely as a fuel it's 5%? Or is it only 5% to the end consumer? R

  16. Maybe worth thinking about a jcb as the wheels may leave less marks than the tracks, irrelevant if your going to board it though. R
  17. He doesn't I just thought it sounded like trees had been felled brash chipped leaving the trunks on the bank where they fell sort of thing. Hence the 3-5m away from his access point? Maybe quite wrong in which case I'd definitely suggest doing a felling course. R p.s. In fact it wasn't how I read it, "hi all, iv'e managed to secure some fire wood from felled trees in railway sidings"
  18. I've got one, as above good within it's limitations, never used a JB so couldn't really comment on the differences. R
  19. A rolling bore cut maybe? Sounds like the trees may already have been felled, can't you drag them out to somewhere you can work with them more easily? R
  20. I'd say you'd be way out with that, be very careful. I don't know how much your paying for turf but make sure you've checked and got in writing a quotation for the amounts your talking about. Unloading the lorry can take forever and then getting it to your work area will take a while. Having said that once your on a roll, it will go very quickly without many cuts. Be an interesting job to quote for............ R
  21. Yep always interesting when this happens, going from glider tug to glider, but without the performance!!! Then you have to find where exactly you ditched the tow cable. R
  22. Ah but I'm sure you wouldn't have to as he will be able to courier it at a very cheap price to your door!!! I''m sure you understand that western union would be more convenient for us all............................ R
  23. Another vote for a jet wash, solves the problem 90% of the time, or alternatively some bleach and a stiff brush. R
  24. I got mine from maplin, not expensive, does the job.
  25. Yep you can as it comes under different rules. Don't ask me which though, I looked into it ages ago. R
