  1. Your hakki pike won't touch the 3ft pieces. I'd go with the splitter option, but depends what's there. Can you not give them a daily rate with an estimate of how long it will take? As a wild stab in the dark off the top of my head I'd be thinking a grand, and a good weeks work. What were you thinking? R
  2. Nice one:thumbup: Did you get your wing sorted on the van?
  3. I think they're new zealand flaks or cordellias something like that not to up on the names, but I took a few out on a site and did a deal with a nursery equivalent of £20 each. R
  4. Why it's only driving around having a chat with the examiner:001_tt2::001_tt2:
  5. Trailer needs to be braked, all the info is on the dsa website and you'll need to be on L's with a supervisor R
  6. I didn't have any formal lessons before the test, but I did go out with a neighbour who's a driving instructor beforehand for an hour or so just to check my general driving. It's a pretty simple test. You turn up read a number plate, do some manouvres. From what I remember you pull in. Unhitch, pull forward, hitch up. Then you do a snake reverse into a bay that you can only get out once to check your position at the end. Then a braking excercise where you can't lock the wheels (empty trailer.....) Then off for a drive round with the trailer on the back. Loads of info about manouvres etc on the net if you search for it - thats all I did. Check about hitching up aswell, the order that you do stuff in (Brake, electrics, brakeaway cable, unhitch etc) I do know some people that have been told there combination of trailer/car was unsuitable, it does vary on age of vehicle etc so check this before the day. pm me if you want anymore info. R
  7. I spy some plants in there that you may have been able to make a bit of beer money on??
  8. Definitely, as I said we don't know the full facts but hopefully can learn from it either as an employee or employer R

    Celox

Trouble is on the outside of the helmet I can't see it lasting long, certainly not on mine, I'm forever scraping and knocking it. R

    Celox

Is it wise putting it inside the helmet, id have thought the last thing you'd want is someone removing your helmet to get at first aid equipment in certain circumstances?? R
  11. :001_tongue:LOL It just didn't look right so had to go!! Or maybe someone put the photos up in the wrong order:blushing: R
  12. Thats the point though, it wasn't self responsibility he was asked to do something that was foolhardy and dangerous. He'd not long been in the job, is at the age where you're prone to making mistakes, yet felt the need to perform. If it had been me that had done it I would fully expect to be told, your own stupid fault. R
  13. Looks good, how much rubbish came out of it? Does that go back to your yard for processing or landfilled? R
  14. Couple of pics from the other days job. This started off with removal of a small, and I mean small tree. I did it on the way back from another job, took about 15 mins. I didn't charge a lot. Since then there's been a couple of large sycs to come out, crown lift on some others. A shed load of fencing and now a bit of turfing. So a few grands worth of work. Also had a lot of recommendations from him including a couple of good tree and fencing jobs. The people that couldn't be bothered to look at a tiny job or took the mick with the price on it must be kicking themselves now:001_tt2:
  15. I can't see how the taxpayer would have paid for this, the fine and cost would be there to pay the council and court costs??? Yep he was stupid in doing it, I certainly wouldn't have done so. The hotel owner will always say after the case I would have, I wonder how many times in the past they have had tree surgeons in - Like I said we don't know the full story, hopefully the court did. I also know that people that age struggle to get employment, so he may have felt pressured to perform to keep the job By the gardener asking him to help, it would be implied that there is a hierarchy and the gardener effectively became his supervisor, and accordingly will be acting under instruction from the owner. Therefore there must have been a breakdown in communication/negligence on the part of the hotel, hence the fine and compensation. On the whole I am against no win no fee type claims but this one seems to be a chain of events that had several links to stop the accident. If it had been the gardener on his own I'd probably have less sympathy as he should have the knowledge to carry out/arrange for the task to be carried out safely. R
  16. I'm afraid that I actually fully agree with his claim in this instance. His employer has asked him to do a job that he is not competent to do. Even now he says he should tie the ladder of to the branch............. Employers have a duty of care, in this instance they clearly have not exercised it. Sounds to me like he was being instructed to do it by the gardener, who should know the basics. It's not the same as having to have a cosh assessment for the shower gel in the staff showers which is H&S gone mad. Having said that, have we got the full story??? Rob
  17. Probably shouldn't really be doing it but you'll probably get away with it, unless someone complains. R

    price work

I think you need to take some responsibility to, if you keep doing what is unreasonable asked then people will push you further and further. It means that companies have to further undercut each other. At the end of the day if you don't like what your being paid for the job, maybe it's the wrong job for you. If all the climbers refused to earn what you consider to be rubbish money then companies would have to put the prices up again. Whilst you've got people prepared to work for nothing there's no chance of your situation improving. Just my thought, right or wrong. R
  19. Police all the way, people shouldn't be frightened of criminals - which it sounds like he is. It also sounds like he is frightened of the police as he's threatening you, to make you not call them. Don't let an idiot intimidate you. R
  20. Sounds like someone doesn't want the job or there's more to it. Is it Gloucester way? Theres quite a few people down that way that I'm sure would take a quick look. R

Nice one, I'd use the cheapest board you can find!!! Hardboard, chipboard, ply doesn't really matter. Your only using to stop little mistakes or stuff brushing past it. Any bigger stuff and your going to start destroying the frame anyway......... R

That must have been slow typing on my part for a couple of responses whilst I was doing it, as woodpicker says go for it.

You could still do it yourself, it just means that your day rate would need to be lower, if your going to be slower. I'd look closely at the figures. It will be good experience if you can do it yourself, and it's the only way that you will get quicker. Difficult to tell looking at the pictures. I'd guess at 5-600quid for the job plus the stump grinding but it's so hard to tell from pics. May be worth subbing the grinding out?? Accordingly if it takes you 3 days that's £200/day in which isn't enough IMO but it may well take you 2days when you crack on with it, which would be £300ish a day, again not really enough but how much is the experience worth? I guess it depends on where your aiming to be in a month/a year/10years time etc. Just my tuppenth worth R

Depends on how small you can go with the logs..... I reckon 2 transit type loads there easily R

Hard to tell from the pictures. At a guess I'd put a day on it, but I'd probably get a big skip in for the logs/chip as there will be a lot of stuff come off it. Obviously depends on your set up and how close your tip site is. R
