  1. Oh and make sure your insured. A contract that I lost had someone lose an eye due to a stone flicking up from a mower. The contractor wasn't insured so the managment company got sued, and I got the contract back. Could just have easily been me that had done it though, worth thinking about, as I always considered it to be very safe. R
  2. I'd say once every two weeks as standard. A lot of people ask me for once a week but I won't do it regularly as it gets hard to have decent amounts of time off. If we get a particular spell of sun and rain I'll ask them if they want an extra visit. 3 weeks imho is to far apart and will look scraggy near the end, especially if something goes wrong that week and gets knocked on another couple of days. R
  3. 3 week basis must be a killer sometimes. When I had the sites at locking I'd turn up after 6 weeks and it had grown 6-8inches in that time. Used to look awful sometimes after cutting. Mind you we were leaving the arisings which obviously helped to fertilise the ground making it grow more...... I'm the same Dean when I first started years ago a site would take me a long full day to finish if I was lucky. Now it's 2 hours from stopping van to starting van. Amazing what difference the right machinery makes to a job! R
  4. Any chance of some pics with a rule next to them? May know where there are some lying about if your lucky. I got some spares for my turner flail mower there. R
  5. Cheers, is the weight added up per tyre i.e 2800kg trailer with 4 wheels = 700kg a tyre? R
  6. Oh and I try not to price by the hour as when you get it sorted with a routine you can be quite quick then they turn round and say, well it's only taken half an hour etc. Stick to price per cut if you can, but also specify regularity for that price. R
  7. For regular work I charge £15 an hour for hand mown gardens and £25 an hour for ride on work. Higher for one off cuts as you've got to work out when to do it etc. Won't make you rich but it keeps the bills paid and more often than not you draw in other work from the mowing. R R
  8. Go in tell them you'll deal today but you need the extra springs thrown in for the price, then if they won't walk out and await the telephone call in an hour or next day. Only do this once you are actually prepared to deal though, and be prepared to walk away for a couple of days. Always depends of course on the deal you've got already...... R
  9. Well I've one set without any problems at all. In fact it was to easy. Gota change some on the other mower now so I'm sure they'll give me some grief..... Thanks for the tips guys always helpful. I'm looking at building a log splitter so I'll remember that handy hint! R
  10. I need to get some new tyres for my trailer. Anybody got any idea what 6.70-13c means, it's not a tyre size I've come across before, assume it may be quite old. Can I replace with any 13inch tyre that will fit if it's got a 6ply rating? R
  11. I'm in the process of building a little log splitter at the moment. I've got a little diesel engine and hydraulic pump and the ram. Just wondering if anybody had a spare valve block and hydraulic tank lying about that would be suitable for the build. Thanks in advance R
  12. It's a good day out, not got the big rides of some of the theme parks, but you can certainly have a giggle Doc1.doc
  13. Be careful with that though Liam, thats more for covering you if you mess up and take the wrong tree down, and general advice that could be misconstrued. Probably not really suitable for somebody who is soley surveying and consulting. Trust are probably the easiest to deal with in terms of their set pricing but not always the cheapest. I think I dealt with Cameron when I was with them. Seemed on the ball, but not competitive this year. R
  14. I think £500,000 is what most working tree surgeons have in way of professional indemnity. It's a different thing. I would have said you'd need 5 million really, thats what most contracts will ask for. R ps Last time I needed PI I was quoted £350ish I think. Remember that it's an ongoing thing as a survey you do could cause problems in 5 years time so you can need to buy an ongoing or one of payment if you stop working for yourself
  15. If it's a common model save yourself a load of time and agro and get a secondhand caliper from your local breakers!! Failing that as garth said check the pins, if you need to take the piston out and emery cloth it, be careful in the future as it may leak it's normally a temporary solution if they've got pitted with rust
  16. I duno but it looks like a one of those toys that I've been banned from buying!!
  17. Not quite sure what it does but looks interesting: YANMAR DEISEL TRACKED TREE STUMP REMOVER £1 NO RESERVE on eBay (end time 22-Jun-10 19:05:10 BST)
  18. I'm sure that the mower shop would do it, but that will involve wasting a lot of time, that could hopefully be better spent doing it myself...... We'll see!! As for ATS well they used to do them for me, until they caused me a lot of problems once so I now refuse to give them a penny of my hard earned cash. Cheers for the advice R
  19. Any advice on changing tyres on a ride on mower. Got two new tyres but the local tyre place doesn't want to touch them as they're to small:sneaky2: They're tubless and I can't see it being a major headache....... R
  20. Meant to post this last week. Had Rick in climbing for me for a couple of days. Good competent climber, that gets on and gets the job done. Wouldn't hestitate to use him again. Rob
  21. Yer because that's always fun, mine was an absolute nightmare, and I started going back to my old bad ways thankfully I've seen sense and now my accountant is getting everything! R
  22. SOunds about the same as me, I don't think I was allowed any expenses, can't remember to be honest. R
  23. 100 quid then it's ancient!!! Ebay it and somebody will pay top wack for it!
  24. New piston and pot aint much for that, is it not worth fixing?? R
  25. What do you need pre requisite wise to attend the course? R
