  1. Whereabouts was it stolen from lock up or a site etc? R
  2. Ok so having re-read the thread its me thats the muppet. I thought you were trying to get us to check that link:blushing: Sorry
  3. I thought a basic rule of a troll thread was that you could only post once at the start to reel people in 1/10 poor effort!! R
  4. Sorry this 'legal' thing annoys me. They're not illegal at all, they are however considered dangerous by the HSE and accordingly if you let an employee use them you could be in trouble. As for a one man operation you can do what you want with it. R
  5. I'd agree with Mesterh that the chain looks like it need sharpening. How tight have you been running it and how often have you dressed the bar? As it's secondhand you don't know how its been treated in the past so I'd try a new bar and chain. As for the Arborol never tried it. Oil seems to work so why change. Why soak the chain in oil before use, surely it'll come off anyway if your in doubt I'd use proper chain oil, but then again I know nothing about Arborol. Don't want to teach you to suck eggs, but ifyour getting through oil, it ought to mean your doing lots of cutting, earning lots of pennies. If your not you may need to look at your pricing factoring in the cost of oil. R
  6. Depends if you can get it to work:001_tt2: I know someone:sneaky2: obviously not me who has been known to take them down and put them back up afterwards, it only a couple of wires..... Also the metal coils that are used by buildings to secure the wires are good for joining broken cables - again apparently:blushing: R
  7. Try and avoid it if you can, but if you break it get the customer to ring up and report a fault. Then they come and fix it FOC. R
  8. Whats the problem with reducing HC's? Unfortunately it's about managing the risk in a specific environment, trees left unattended will survive in the way they know best, unfortunately that may not be conjusive to an urban environment. R
  9. Difficult one, on my sites I'm keen to retain as many trees as possible, but in areas where cars/buildings etc I ask my surveyor to be cautious for exactly the reasons stated. If it's a fence/shed etc it's an acceptable risk, cars or people or property I would want to do something, which is often a reduction to reduce the risk of failure or unfortunately removal. If it is doomed then replacement sooner rather than later will provide a nice tree sooner. R ps I'm not a surveyor in any way shape or form but as the owner of the company ultimately the buck stops with me so thats how I see it.
  10. He's got a tracked barrow!!! If there's a toy about Steve owns/has owned/want to own it!!
  11. I only use them when roadside for tree work but never up a tree or when we want it to be obvious that we a are working and hence supposed to be there i.e on a private estate. Or of course when subbing to someone that insists on them being worn. R
  12. Wise words - If you believe you can do it, you can. Nobody else will believe in you until you believe in yourself. Another point is don't be afraid to embarass yourself by asking - If you don't ask you won't get!
  13. Come on guys the reason we do logs is to make money, if we didn't make money then we wouldn't be doing it - well somepeople may but thats another story. Theres money to be made but it's directly proportional to the amount of stress you receive and the work you put in IMO. To the original poster. I have a yard but it's miles away from anywhere so I use my back garden at the moment or try and cut them to a good size on site then they just need splitting. R
  14. If you're going through hell, keep going - You don't wanna stay there do you?? Tough times don't last - Tough people do!!
  15. Nah one of these: Toolstation > Electrical > Extension Leads & RCDs > RCD Adaptor Ok so they're more than a fiver - when did everything go up in price.......
  16. If the water is clean then yep a clear one would do you. What is the water being used for/why is it being pumped? Max grain size is the solid object that will go through the pump, ie at our cycle speedway track lumps of shale that go down into the drain. Basically if your mixing electricity and water a circuit breaker is a good idea it means if something goes wrong the electric trips out. Current regs mean that any socket that is likely to be used outside should have one inbuilt. There only a fiver or so and just plug into a normal socket. R
  17. I'm glad I don't get the power to change usernames. I don't think (In fact I know I couldn't be) trusted with it!!!!!!
  18. We use one of these Toolstation > Ground Maintenance > Pumps > Submersible Dirty Water Pump at the cycle speedway track to pump the water out of the drain. Not quite sure if thats what your after though? R
  19. Good effort, where you based? R
  20. If it's seasoned £20 a tonne is very good. Wet wood would normally fetch a lot more than that!!! R
  21. He has CVD! Surprised that none of the above will cover you, could be how your answering the questions so they end up fobbing you off? Try having a look through insurance providers from something like a maxpower magazine that specialise in non standard cars?? R
  22. A lot of mowers now have got a boss which is designed to break so that it means a £9.99 replacement instead of engine rebuild. IMO though they do break far to easily. When I'm using the stiga mower I carry a spare one as it feels like a twig can upset them! R
  23. Cheers I couldn't find it anywhere!!
  24. No worries mate, it all looked good. Someone has told me that they had to drill a bar to make it fit with no adverse problems so I may yet try that. If not I may well email them and see if they're still interested. Hope the carvings going well. R
  25. Can anybody point me in the direction of the thread showing the home made log burners made out of a gas bottle - or has anybody got any more pics of there's they don't mind me stealing ideas from. I can't find it anywhere:blushing: Cheers guys
