  1. I'd box clever on this one, last thing you want to be doing is having a punch up, appealing though it may be. Send an invoice, then a final demand, then action in the county court. You'll find most people deep down are scared of the legal system, and if they're not you can always have a punch up afterwards...... R
  2. This is exactly what winds me up, AE have put themselves in a situation where they can just write blank cheques.............. Still nothing I can do about it except pay the premiums R
  3. I have had bad dealings with them. One of my guys bumped a vehicle (tiny dink) and we arranged that a mobile repair thing would come and fix the vehicle which they did. AE then got involved picked the vehicle up took it away - after repair wouldn't give it back for weeks as they couldn't find the damage....... They then tried to bill me for the hire car, they were unsucessful. The owner was most apologetic and as annoyed as me. I hate the fact that people make money unnecessarily out of our premiums. They ought to be able to supply a replacement vehicle straight away under the conditions that the vehicle is examined and a full report made within 24 hours. The vehicle is then repaired whilst the courtesy vehicle is used or an offer is made by YOUR insurance company that they can then argue with the other persons insurance company. It means that the delay tactics to make more money don't get used. R
  4. IMO - correct me if I'm wrong, the problem here has been caused by using accident exchange. They're a 3rd party thats got involved and complicated the issue, and made an absolute fortune out of arranging a hire vehicle for you. Having said that it seems like thats just caused the delay. Unfortunately second hand vehicles are a minefield price and quality wise. Best of luck with it. R
  5. I did a load of 'street trees' on a site and ended up with loads of it. Didn't have any complaints when I sold it nicely dried out. R
  6. They'll run through it all and prepare you well for assesment, just make sure you take note of what is being said. As for tree ID well you really ought to be able to identify the common ones above, but it's unlikely you'll fluff it if you mess one up, they'll more than likely just ask you what tree your climbing.... R
  7. I'd take it through the garage and clean up afterwards just makes sure you cut it small enough to carry through. Did a little one through a house this morning took about an hour, just laid some decorators cloths down and folded them up afterwards.
  8. This ones probably to modern for you, Saddleback Cottage, Nethybridge near Aviemore Blog Archive Photos of Saddleback Cottage. I'd definitely recommend Nethybridge its a cracking little village. Well it is at new year anyway. Small and cosy yet close enough to aviemore, grantown and inverness if your that way inclined. R
  9. I tend to flyer a street when we've done a job there, having said that I've been quite lazy recently. I need to get out there again, domestic stuff is som much better for cashflow!! Where I tip the bloke says the travellers are in everyday, they must be doing something right if they are all working and we're not?? R
  10. When mine gets low on oil it goes funny, top it up and it seems to be fine! R
  11. Groundy gets to drive the chipper or stumpy home................... That trucks gota be an incy wincy bit overweight at times??
  12. I hope this doesn't sound rude, but you may not have much of a response because it doesn't sound like your offering much. You don't mention anything about how much work you've got or clients, info about your company etc etc. A good climber employed climber will be employed and a subby climber will be going for work week to week, not really thinking about something that may happen. If you've got contracts etc lined up then let people know and get them excited about working for you. R
  13. I know I stuffed up doing this. I set up at 0870 number as I wanted to be non-geographic and had it diverted. Fine till the provider started messing me about and I told them where to go with the number. I your going to do it in the future I would say just bite the bullet and get the office set up at the yard now. R
  14. I know theres a difference between estimated and real readings, but at the end of the day you pay for what you use when the proper bill is done anyway so it makes no odds except to cashflow. As the the DD i've done that myself you look, see it hasn't come out and ignore it, it always bites you in the end......... R
  15. I'll have to try a bit harder:001_tt2:
  16. Cool, cheers for taking the time to reply, I'll certainly have a look at those when I've got some spare time. I suppose the lifting of legs and so on is what you get used to with experience that most of us will never get. Always good to here how to do if from a pro:thumbup: R
  17. Cool always good to learn, as I said the tree I did could easily have been dismantled but as it had chicken of the woods I was told we had to use a crane, so I did. Hadn't though about being able to see the cut open up as you cut as a way of checking it's right, but if you've got it wrong I'd have thought the end reult would be the same as getting it wrong with a step cut. I've re-read my first post and it does come across as very negative which it wasn't intended to, I was trying to ask questions but comes across more as criticism. Hope I haven't offended anyone. R
  18. Fair enough, whys that? As I said I have only ever used a crane once, what I did was to cut through below and then on top and let the crane lower it down as though you had a high anchor point, then on the stem cut one side, then the other and let the crane lift it off. Is this wrong? Is it normal that legs will lift a bit? If I did another one I'd get someone in to do it, but I really enjoyed the experience. R
  19. Surely if your on two legs somethings going seriously wrong. So easy to have a big accident doing these type of jobs. We're you using step cuts? Didn't look like you'd gone throught the opposite side enough/at all at times. Sorry to sound negative, I've only ever done one of these jobs and the crane wasn't needed at all but was in the job spec. I was quite aware of how easily it could go pear shaped though. Good job though and you went home safe so works for me. R
  20. Just as a thought John, can you get a decent size tree put in to replace the damaged one, after all it should be covered by insurance, be nice to put something decent in?? R
  21. Nothing a bit of gaffa tape and a ratchet wouldn't sort out:001_tt2:
  22. Are they bumble bees or honey bees, ie big ones or little ones? I did a job not so long ago for a beekeeper was quite an experience climbing a tree in a bee suit to catch a swarm........ Certainly a more unusual day in the office
  23. Does look a bit iffy, but how much is it worth, it's 8 years old and probably had a harder life than advertised. Maybe the guys in serious dog dirt and needs rid before the tax man takes it etc. Plus the serial numbers shown, can someone not check that out?? If I was selling something dodgy I wouldn't advertise the serial number. R
  24. They rung me saying where I was advertising didn't work, I asked him where they'd found the advert, "yer but we know where to look....." I've got another company trying it on at the moment and the time to mess them about......... R
  25. You do know that is only a wrongly planted 10/15 standard that will fit in the passenger footwell of a mini don't you:001_tt2:
