as title says, chain is snapping just behind chisel, coincidentally snaps at the same point along plank being cut. chains are only lasting approx 2 months before failure. 36" bar on 660, any tips for using logasol, do you guys put a wedge in behind saw to take the weight of plank? how often do you sharpen ?

Hi, i will be using a logasol for a colleague tomorrow, i was wondering what the ideal size bar to chainsaw ratio for milling wood. Also if anyone can clarify for me, i am running a 24" bar on my husky 372, if i reduce size of bar to 18" does the chain run faster on the shorter bar or does it stay the same?

its just an idea, but have you ever rung any horse / livery centres they are always on the look out for woodchip, google them

I will be confronting the individual in question, and pointing out the error of his ways! I would like to prune him!

When i say conservation area, it is a conservation group that have bought a disused quarry and turned into a nature reserve, i understand the six week notice system in a designated conservation area, but i believe this is not that type , if you know what i mean

Thanks for the comments , my first instinct was to immediately climb and remedial prune, but as rightly pointed out bats may be winter roosting, is it wise to leave till spring arrives with this in mind? As for the volunteer, only his wife attends meetings, he chooses not to.instead he seeks out his own work he can do. Although i have trained in Arboriculture the work i do with this conservation group is interesting when we have a diverse group working together. We have people that work for the countryside council for Wales, park rangers, and we have some members of "The association of polelathe turners and greenwood workers"

Hi all, I give up my time once a month to volunteer in a conservation / wildlife reserve, i fell trees large and small, prune trees, and advise commitee on tree issues as and when required. We discussed two Ash trees at the last meeting and it was agreed to monitor these trees regularly, they are covered with Ivy and there is evidence of Innotus hispidus,we suspect there may be bats roosting in these trees too. Since this meeting a volunteer has taken it upon himself to vandalise these trees with a new toy of his, please feel free to comment :cursing:

When i first started using spikes, i think i used to be too close to the stem, spikes used to slip out, but lean back a bit more now - no probs, ensure spikes are sharp too,

I know there is not much resin in the conifers so late in the year, but my wife had heard somewhere that milk helps remove resin from your arms, i laughed at first, but i give it a try and it worked, amazed!! Might try cleaning my flip-line next with the stuff!
