  1. Is that not what a skyline is, or am I missing something??
  2. Fair play to you for getting on with it. You've got to be owed some luck soon!!!!! R
  3. Probably tow it no probs, until the battery runs out 100m down the road.........
  4. Oh and motorcross boot or shin pads are advised at times..........
  5. Maul for me, hit it hard first time so you don't have to go back again. Most important thing I've found it to make sure you're splitting on another block of wood. R
  6. Not really got any advice, other than some of them are very easy to bend, A four year old would struggle to operate one. Sure there must be such a thing out there as one that bounces though........
  7. This might not make sense as I've been to the pub:thumbup: You do need a structure to each job, but I've found that the structure to each job is different. I.e Some jobs it's just me and no kit, others me and kit, others a few men and some hired kit. A lot of people have one set of kit and one set of staff, so it's easy to price on an hourly rate. I'm now looking at the job deciding I want say £200 quid out of it, the extra labour is going to cost me £150, It's gona be easier to hire a big chipper in (150) and a big skip to get rid of the rubbish (100) So my day there is £600. Making it £75/hr. Whereas removing a small cherry tree in a back garden by myself needs me and my chipper. I want £100 for a mornings work, so £150 easily covers everything making £37.50 an hour. I.e Massive difference between the numbers if that makes sense, whereas the money I earn stays similar - When I've got work............ R
  8. I've just had a chat with the accountant and we've decided I can't have a day rate. There's just to many variable with the different type of work I do..... He now agrees that I need to decide what I want out of each job, and work up costing wise to a final figure, rather than put an hourly rate on jobs. R
  9. Is that plus or including the dreaded? Really do need to get my OL application in even if I'm not going to use it for a few months. R
  10. Thats more like it 2 tonne of log and chip. Not 2 tonne capacity. There's probably close on a tonne of men, ladders, saws, fuel etc when you work it all out. That's more what I would have expected. Have you got a guideline price. It's not really the way I was looking to go vehicle wise but they do look nice...... R
  11. Some interesting answers here: I always work on worst case scenario when quoting, it means I don't get a lot of jobs, but equally it means that I don't get stung - I have underquoted badly in the past and learnt from my mistake. If I'm unsure I won't quote there and then I'll get someone else that I trust in for an opinion, some would say this is a weakness, I don't think it is. In a sick kind of way it's quite satisfying when you see someone else doing the job for peanuts and struggling, it makes you realise you've made the right decision. It does annoy me when others quote and then move the goal posts by asking for more money, and I have had people come back to me when others have tried to do this. The other day I did some work for a mates dad, I was always intending to be cheap as I wanted the job, so as long as I made some beer money I was going to be happy. I quoted for a hedge again worst case, 2 people for a day, he didn't go for it. I'm still happy with my price. I'm sure someone would quote cheaper but it could take forever, he's decided to have ago himself. He did go for a few tree removals. I again put a day on it for 2 people thinking it would be a morning, I was glad I built in the extra as it was an into the afternoon job. Now this was a job where I intended to be cheap, I nearly didn't build in the safety margin. So glad I stuck to my guns! As for not knowing what you getting into, I can understand that in the first few years. After that climb the tree/hedge have a look. Look at it in the dark, but if your ot 100percent go back the next day to make sure. I think skyhuck's point is that a lot of people are being to cheap then whinging when it all goes wrong. If your working hard don't be afraid to charge a fair price. Just my thoughts different people have different ways. I've not got much work on but have a reasonable standard of living. I'm not flat out in reverse, and I feel for the people that are. Anybody can buy work Rob
  12. Yer thats shocking considering the extra hassle your getting going up from a 3.5t truck. They look good though. R
  13. Ok, fair enough. I do have a few though including blades that are broken for different reasons. If you don't have any luck with a new unit and want to try and repair it let me know what bits you want and I'll have a look if I've got them. R
  14. Whats gone on it, I have a few old units knocking about that I may be able to source spares from for you if that helps? It isn't one of the figure of 8s with the bronze bush is it? R
  15. That'll be the standard ebay scam then where it doesn't exist................
  16. Thats why I said that could be described as waste....... One mans rubbish is anothers gold!!
  17. And? They buy woodchip off tree surgeons, and turn it into bio fuel. You don't get a lot for it but you do get something for what could otherwise be described as waste. R
  18. I'm no expert, and it was 3-4 yrs ago that I ran a roadsweeper for my GM sites, but inspections used to be done by a garage near the yard it was stored in and used to be £1-200ish on an old vehicle including the little jobs that are always needed, ie oil change, brake shoes etc...... Until I found out I could do it a different way, but thats another story. R
  19. How much???? Someones having a laugh, unless the vehicle is being used a stupid amount/and or knackered!!!
  20. Just had a quote of arbinsure looks like I may be going with them depending on what NFU come back with on tools cover.......
  21. We could get into another debate here.... I'd need an OL whichever way I looked at it.
  22. Dread to think what else it would have come up with!!!
  23. Nice - I like it a lot! Do you need an OL for a unimog? Not that it would suit my business as I do have to put the motorway miles in at times....... R
  24. You're sort of right I think. Believe max authorised mass is 8.25t as opposed to 12 if you've done the tests so in theory you could have 5t truck with 3.25t trailer. I think........ I've done cat c and think I'm in the same situation, will be resolved next year with full artic though.......
  25. I wouldn't pretend either way, nasty things happen in a war zone, some wrong some right, the only thing I do know is that we'll never know the full story!
