  1. We don't need it, one of the exemptions: carrying material or equipment to be used by that person in the course of his or her work, provided that driving that vehicle does not constitute the driver’s principal activity* *An example of a driver under exemption vii (also known as 'incidental driver') would be a brick layer who drives a load of bricks from the builder's yard to the building site and then spends their working day laying bricks. In this case, driving a lorry is incidental to their main occupation. R
  2. Just watch you don't get them to hot, but yep an angle grinder, then an oil stone on the back. Worth taking them off to do properly every so often, also worth looking at the cost of new blades, sometimes worth just replacing them instead of messing about..... Or at least one to use, one to sharpen R
  3. Very interesting. My 26 is an american import and apparently has less power and is more like the british 240. Mite be worth putting that bar and chain on over the standard stihl one. R
  4. As a simpler test in case your using the wrong wire, with the engine running check the voltage across the pos and neg terminals. Switch it off and check again. It should be higher with the engine running. I'm a bit confused by what your saying originally. Do you have problems during the 6 month period or is it just that after 6 months they stop working? R
  5. I'll just shut up now, must have been another site............
  6. Was it not you collecting timber with a skid steer from a site just off the lancs?
  7. Hope you didn't take that over that 13t bridge!! Also hear the fisherman did their best to lock you out!! R
  8. Faulty cap could easily cause that PITA though. R
  9. But unfortunately once again the effort is wasted. I would have been impressed if I'd been asked a couple of questions or indeed received a bit of harassment. It seemed like yet another episode of creating a job for someone. R
  10. They didn't ask me that, and I took away a few bags of waste from the job, mind you I had a waste transfer licence anyway. R
  11. Depends why it broke. If it genuinely happened that it just happened during the mot then thats life, now if he shut the bonnet with a spanner in etc........ Was he asked to do any work on the car before MOT? R
  12. Gearboxes are weak in them, but you might get a good one. Around 1000 to replace, I look on it as a running cost every 60k......... R
  13. Because they're prone to getting stuck on wet grass, so a diff lock is very handy so the one wheel with grip can drive you. R
  14. Yep had it happen to me before I split the two companies. Just one trading standard guy and one copper. We were fixing a burst water main and had the drive up. They came over and had a chat with us and the householder, and went on there merry way with a business card. Didn't think it was that productive though, surely the check should have been a lot more than it was, ie they were happy with a chat and a business card, something every rotten tradesman would probably have to hand. Would have been more beneficial if they'd rung inland revenue to check we were registered for tax etc. R
  15. Good stuff, is their head office in ross-on-wye or am I thinking of someone else? Did they go bump a few years ago, again may of been someone else. Do you credit check suppliers and customers for that matter. I have always found it can give interesting results, or negotiation value. R
  16. I've had a 13 ton one hired in for a couple of weeks, and it worked really well. It was a horizontal one though which was good, but wonder if for bigger rings a vertical one would be better, less lifting..... How much did you pay for it. Thinking of buying one that I'd use of the compact tractor, unfortunately though I can't use that whilst the grass is growing!! R
  17. About 15 cubic metres? Bit hard to tell from the photos, what size is the splitter? R
  18. Checked today and the rubbers are completely shot as I thought. It'll go on the ever going list of stuff to do.............. R
  19. If only carlsberg made chippers, they'd probably be.................
  20. Cheers, which bob? It's two half axles on it at the moment, although I must admit I haven't looked at it to thoroughly. Just noticed it was rather bouncy when towing it behind the landy. Can't see it behind the van, out of sight out of mind and all that......... I have just replaced rubbers on other trailers in the past, but I haven't got a clue till I start messing. Are they pretty standard units, ie would it be easy enough to get a match for yours? R
  21. Just after a bit of advice, as my background is mainly grounds maintenace I normally have a big maintenace session at somepoint in November to get everything sorted or decide to bin stuff with a view to replacing next season. Now my chipper is an early entec truckloader I think. It's looking very tired and in desperate need of a paint, the rubbers on the indespension units probably need replacing etc. Whilst it's all in bits is there anything else I should be doing. The engine will obviously get a full service. Think there is only one bearing on the flywheel, is it worth getting this replaced so it's done, or just leave till I have problems, any other advice about this machine that I should look at. Also anybody know where I can get replacement decals for it after it's looking all shiny? R
  22. Yep going down that route, but the trouble is he won't care about ebay telling him off. Surprising how people suddenly care when they receive a letter from the county court. If people knew they were going to be pursued then it might make them think twice. I'll keep you informed........ R
  23. I realise that it's full of timewasters and I do firmly believe the only way it will stop is if people do pursue matters further (thorugh the courts in this instance) for wasting time. I have the buyers contact details and I was planning to send them a registered delivery letter before action on Monday. I was planning on claiming £200 for my fees effort and wasted time. I realise the chances of getting anything are slim but it'll make me feel better if I do pursue it. It is a cool bike, cheap and cheerful but puts a smile on my face everytime it gets ridden!! Much more fun than the 12 that I had to sell to pay the vat bill a couple of years ago. Quite heavy on the front end, and a different ride to more modern bikes. Its annoying as I'd finally decided to sell it and now it needs MOTing etc it all becomes a faff for a bike thats sat round not doing a lot. Could always just keep it for a track bike...... R
