Inboard vs outboard step cut. Covered on Chainsaw from a rope and harness course I would suggest getting a more up to date book to read from. There are lots better, this was published in the 90s and lots of technical changes in equipment and techniques since then

Where are you based? Meet some local climbers and go out with them on a Rec climb. Will cost you the price of a few packets of sausages and a crate of beer. I don't know you at all so hope you don't take offence at this as I certainly don't mean this in an offensive way, but, you don't know what you don't know. I know a lot of the guys who have posted here personally and can vouch for thier experience and standing. I am also throwing my hat in the "get training" camp. I'd also suggest looking at Dunning Krugar effect.

They're great and as others have said, well made and much nicer go wear in super hot weather. All my mates who have been climbing in Oz and NZ swear by them too

Sirius Bull rope is just Double braid C1 splice. The measurements that you've found from Teuflebeger are right, you don't need to change any of them if you want a smaller eye. Just make the eye marks smaller and do everything else the same and you're fine (Unless I'm not understanding the question)

Cheers @Mark Bolam and @Joe Newton Fid length is consistent across all ropes as the fids get bigger as the ropes do. A rule of thumb is a short fid mark is 7 times rope diameter Long fid is 14 times rope diameter A full fid is 21 times rope diameter If you were doing 16mm rope, a short fid would be 112mm Full fid would be 336mm and so on. The marks are just there to save you having to do maths really

In the programme they mentioned more than once that they were very clean and it was part of thier culture. Next minute the guy says "oh, there are some shits on the floor. Not sure if it dogs or the kids have been caught out" Hard to say they're a clean bunch when there is a bloke with his strimmer trousers round his ankles, crimping off a loaf onto the window of an L200 imo

Yes. You'll find that you probably just use a wire fid for everything if you have one though. The marks on the fid are just the measurements without you having to do the calculations yourself

Last guy wants to have arms that permanently swing in different directions and a nodding head instead of all the money in the world and health. The big set up is that you expect him to come up with a reason for it and after all these years he is just a mental case who didn't think it through properly and is just a daft fukker flailing his arms around and nodding his head. Cracks me up that he says "I think I've fucked up" like its taken him years to decide. Made me chuckle anyway 😄

There is a good majority of the industry that can't use a rake properly so I'd say the likelihood of them using a crosscut saw is slim
