  1. Mat Armstrong channel is class. I watched all of these as well. Very good https://youtu.be/ML4tw_UzqZE
  2. Building Stonehenge and the Pyramids. Romans would be cool to see as well. Good question
  3. Just put all the choppers on ignore. Would much rather be in here than the Facebook group. There are a few absolute strokers in here but nothing compared to Facebook and the whoppers on there
  4. Forgot about this in the mayhem of presents and cooking! Usual socks and slippers but also got a torque wrench for my bike and some tickets to see a singer I've always wanted to see and who hardly ever tours so chuffed with that. Best part of the day was watching girls open theirs and having lunch with parents. Hope everyone had a decent day!!
  5. Give him a pruning saw and take him up the tree with you and I'd say you're good to go mate. If you're sending him up with a saw on his own in the tree, I'd argue that he should be on a climbing course already
  6. Tachyon SpLife. Used rope as per! Much easier than the other version

    WTF

Any money that he was a professional logger doing a favour for a friend/foreigner cash job.
  8. Haha. We had a job from hell where anything that could have gone wrong, did. The straw that broke the camels back was tipping off the chip and couldn't find the pin for the chipper. So 4 of us spent 45 minutes in the dark digging through the chip pile looking for it. Turns out one of the lads had put it on the side of the chipper for safe keeping then forgot. Took a while to see the funny side😄
  9. 100% agree. I guess the call to act like a knob online is too tempting for some though
  10. Think England will start slowly, then pick up a bit of momentum and probably go out in quarters or semis. Not really got into it yet but once it starts I'll get a bit more engaged I suppose
  11. Some splicing for @321afc Happy with how these came out Marlow 16 strand, Tachyon and Drenaline. All used
  12. Remember you will need to inform your insurance company that you are taking a work experience placement on. You've said it as well that they should be trained in whatever they are using, however, make sure that you are doing your own assessments of them at the start of any jobs. You could find that the person doing the checks or the visit doesn't actually know the student and is office based and just says "oh yeah, they're fine"
  13. https://arbtalk.co.uk/forums/topic/15992-spliced-tachyon/#comments
  14. The splicer said they could do it and they were clearly unfamiliar with that type or splice so basically did what they thought was right and it was nowhere near suitable for life support. It looked like it wouldn't hold a boat, let alone a person!
  15. Yeah, my Meindls went like that, thats why I swapped to these. I just think it takes the piss a bit that we're spending a fortune on kit that is failing pretty quick through no user error. I would get it if I was spending the day on concrete and wore the sole away but for it to crumble pretty quick on 250 quid boots after very little use, I think its a bit poor
  16. Less than 6 months old and the heel has started falling apart. Looks like it's crumbling. Not related to walking as its a few mm above anything that would contact the floor. I got Andrews as Meindl soles fell apart if the wind blew the wrong direction. Can't say this is impressive
  17. Fly is an ugly splice. I've done it once just to see if I could. No inclination to do it again!! The Slaice is much nicer on Fly and its quite a nice rope all in all. I wouldn't dream of splicing a rope that I don't know about and sending someone off to climb with it.
  18. The correct answer to "how do you calculate log and timber weight" used to be a few lines of maths calculating falls distances and forces or, by simply saying "experience"
  19. Make sure that whoever splices it is familiar with the manufacturer and type of rope before they touch it. @Rich Rule and his Tachyon splice is a good example of Boat yards sometimes biting off more than they can chew.
  20. Good question, I would be interested to see the replies on this. If you're working for him, he's technically just posting a photo of his jobs. Is your face visible in the photos or are there ways to easily identify it as you?
  21. I thought so too. Then I found out the Stihl Hex files are £7 each and reconsidered it!
  22. Saw Plippy who said he was catching lads trying to nick single chainsaw files
