  1. You could be a sub contract groundsman easily, ring HMRC to register self employed, ring insurance company's and ask their advise. ring company's in your area to get work. Some may expect to meet on site, some at the yard. If you're expected on site, you're own presentable vehicle, if at the yard you could public transport/walk it Basic PPE, waterproofs, groundsaw of around 50cc, spare chains, bar, files, maybe fuel Desirable extras would possibly be heavy trailer license
  2. Yep, DED, id guess i fell 30 DED trees a year. although theres still many big and old ones still thriving. You may remember a year or 2 ago, i assisted 4 or 5 being felled with a big hiab with grab and saw, these trees are in the same row (but under different ownership) theres another of simmilar size, 200m away enclosed in old wooden buildings with the top showing signs of DED. I dont think DED here is quite as aggressive as in the UK, more slow and steady, one tree can have it, a tree 20m away can be totally unaffected
  3. If your coporate policy is that anal and unchangeable about type c's, perhaps non chainsaw work should be undertaken if theres a risk of heat stroke ect. dissolve some 'Resorb' pills into lunchtime drinks bottles to restock your body with salts and minerals, plain waters not enough. also great hangover cure!

  15. Sounds like a fair price for sustaining a healthy business to me
  16. Not really Reduction tends to be in size, and a specific measurement given as to how much to take off, normally incorporates a prune as a matte of course Prune, basic prune IMO is dead, crossing, epicormics, Stubbs, leaving the shape untouched, unless something like lamp house ect is too close, or there's a daft looking sticky outy bit. Then there's safety pruning, formative pruning etc Thin, reduction in volume, allows more light to filter through, shape untouched. Not lions tailing mind Trim, hedges are trimmed
  17. The one i tried was around 225kg lift, think the biggest will lift 350, smallest a poxy 100.

  19. I love this comment "I can remember removing one of these huge trees which was growing in between 3 houses, one of which was my sister's place in London. There was no way to drop the tree in a traditional way so I spent an entire week climbing up the 5 upward branches of this monster which was 160ft tall then roping myself off & cutting it into logs with a chainsaw I carried to London on the train from Cardiff which I then lowered with a rope & pulley. While working on it, my brother in law who was helping on the ground had a constant stream of homeowners offering me thousands of pounds to do the same for them because they also had a problem tree. "

  22. Anyone who might be intersted but getting out off by 4 pages of crap, don't be. I've been going over to help mike for over 3years, mikes knowledge from starting as a real life "axe man" and working across the world is unique. Tree work is tree work, but in Bergen it's in stunning locations, normally more interesting than the uk and working with big kit......unimog, 10" chipper, Chevy v8 trucks are a bit different to a timberwolf and transit If you have a mature head, like to have a laugh and want to learn a lot fast, give mike an email
  23. Aspen is an expensive higher grade of clean burning petrol that should be considered PPE
  24. Only thing a wire core is good for is flipping up easier when pole/stem ascending
  25. Here it's common to ring bark the trees, let them die, then fell. Eliminates suckering and chemical free
