  1. About to go out and get some kindling in. I've got cold feet. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  2. I have proof positive that councils are loath to do ANYTHING with tree hackers, poisoners etc. highly frustrating. Here's hoping you have more success. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. Wait for the swells when the weather turns 👍 Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  4. Around 21C - 22C today Jon. Bright sunshine...................again. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  5. Just leave it for now and see what happens. We passed the details on to our compliance unit. Slap wrist, wet bus ticket I think was the outcome. I was somewhat unhappy (not sure how to convey my feelings without getting banned). We'll see what happens with the tree but generally they epi out like mad so we might be able to encourage a few decent leaders and try and get some shape back in to it in a couple of years. That's if our friendly council employee doesn't come and "prune" it for us.
  6. Y'see, now I'm jealous again.
  7. There's always one know it all isn't there Smart answer though.
  8. Completed Kowhai removal from a few pages ago. Decent size for a Kowhai but it had been previously topped and the cuts were rotten as. A couple from one of our Council reserves. The individual who decided to "trim" this native Beech was a council employee who had been repeatedly told we wouldn't trim the tree to retain her view so got her husband to take to it one weekend.
  9. That should go in the stunt fell thread. Can't believe the cab held up. Looks like the axles didn't. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. Mind you Stephen, that photo does make me think twice 😄 Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. After 15 years I sometimes crave for a snowy winter. Then I get over it. Taupo is cold in winter but only down to about -1. Last summer was wet but this one has been hot and dry for 4 months solid almost. Going on holiday next xmas so I can have a cold and hopefully snowy one. Sometimes the hot and dry weather does get a bit too much. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  12. Tried a few different glasses but the Bolles seem to be the best so far. Just seemed surprised Treequip that some posters were struggling to get safety glasses out of employers. I would have thought it was a given in PPE kit issue. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. 24C and still hot and dry Jon. Forecast showers for Monday I think but then more hot and dry. Fantastic working conditions but well and truly over it now. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. My wife is a florist. She does a lot of wedding flowers and set ups. Her first words; want one, it's cool. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. I can't believe that NZ is actually ahead of the UK in terms of eye safety here. Most places I think now generally at the very least supply safety eye wear and several insist on it as part of PPE. Asplundh, Treescape, utilities and government depts all insist on eye wear as do several smaller Companies I know of. We no longer have visors but ALWAYS wear safety glasses. Saved my eyes on more than one occasion. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. Got a pair of those army goggles. They fog worse than my glasses and are a pain to take off and clean. We just buy the Bolle glasses now. They still fog up but not as bad as most. They do an anti fog one which just turns the misting to little rivulets of water. Wash them under running water rather than using the cloth bag as wiping the lenses with anything will destroy the anti fog coating. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. Alton Brown on Good Eats made some once. Looked cracking stuff. Had a go with the oven on low but low wasn't quite low enough. Turned out crispier than a Findus Pancake. Apparently I should have turned the oven off when it reached 50 degrees then banged the meat in and left the door cracked. Keen to find out what method you use and how it turns out. 18. Maybe some emergency has cropped up and he hasn't been able to call? Everyone is quick to castigate the guy without knowing if there is a real reason for the no call. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  19. Tirrols are agreat boot, especially if you spend all day on spikes. They do feel a bit like a ski boot though and driving in them takes some getting used too. They didn't last as long as my Airstreams and are a bit too big for small pruning. Tend to get stuck in tight crotches quite easily.
  20. If I'm in the office in winter I have to take my normal shoes off and have my foot resting on a hot water bottle regardless of sock type but I do agree; buy the best sock you can possibly afford. Merino wool and possum fur for me. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. As Tony said. Meindles are apparently a tight fit which will reduce circulation if you have wide feet. I don't have a problem with them personally but I do get a cold right foot in other boots due to my sciatic nerve welded to my hamstring.....apparently, so I pretty much wear my Meindles all year round. 22. Fantastic watching for a laid back sunday morning. Reckon it would have been a tad quicker having all those limbs off and a little lower with the lift point than it would have been to lift them from a high point.
  23. Same price as the airstreams and look almost the same too. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  24. Sounds nice but when everything is a dust bowl due to lack of rain it does start to get a bit tedious believe it or not. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  25. Hell of a job. Couldn't even see the hedge in the first picture. Looked more like a heap of out of control epicormic growth or just rubbish suckers. Looks proper tidy. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
