  1. It's a matter of getting used to the thumb brake and the control. It is easy to free fall but it should lock off if you let go if it. Easier said than done. It can also be jumpy when your not used to it but I really like mine. There must be someone on AT that can let you have a fly on one. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  2. Summed it up perfectly. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. I have a spider jack and I get on very well with it. Think you either love em or hate em. There is the free fall option which can be interesting. Keen to have a crack on the uni too just to see what it's like. I'd see if you can try before you buy with the SJ as its not for everyone. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  4. Spiderjackery you mean? Have a look on YouTube. Good watch. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  5. I haven't used the zig zag but I was thinking about it the other day and wondered what would happen if you tried something along the lines of that shown in Joe Harris' spiderjackery video with it. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  6. Ours is back in the office and won't be used even if Petzl give the all clear or supply a captive carabina or a rubber pinch. I'm just not convinced that, in the case of a decent swing on it, it wont break. I don't want to be second guessing my gear while I'm climbing. Neither should I need to check it every couple of seconds. I said a fair while ago on the other ZZ thread that I'd stick with my SJ until the ZZ was proven and I'm happy it's still in my bag. My 2IC is back to his hitch cord.
  7. Typical NZ honeymoon ain't it Mike? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. Doesn't really matter about the rules though does it? Common sense should dictate. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. I'm still heading over, yep. Will be in NY from 28th May till 8th June and SF for the last week or so in June. Actually haven't chased up on meeting up with anyone over there to be honest. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. Cracking photos. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. Agreed. We'd already retired the ZZ just in case. pretty glad we did now. Revisit the situation when Petzl gives the all clear.
  12. Australia and the ISA is a long story but plenty of info available. Working down under you won't need ISA qualifications. Usually it's experience people are after along with possibly either NPTC or similar qualification and a desire for you to put your nose to the grindstone. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. Simply put, you don't come to NZ for a good wage you come for the lifestyle. If you're coming from the uk the exchange rate is going to be bad either way but the kiwi dollar is exceptionally strong. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. And I think they have a guy n the UK who sorts out the paper work etc. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. You should be fine with what you have. Professional outfit with some good guys and top climbers. They have a lot of employees so don't expect a small tight nit family type outfit but I had few complaints when I was there. Quite a wide range of work but don't expect to be doing what YOU want but rather what is required. Good secure job for a first up though and will give you chance to have a nosey around. 16. Impressive vid. Some seriously nice gear and I'd love to know how much that rig cost. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. Two good days of rain and more to come Jon. Hoping its dry for Saturdays job but it can do as it pleases next week. Bucket work all week. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  18. Seeing as I have no idea what the original poster is on about I figure a quick derail is ok. Regarding the weather; hosing it down at long last Jon. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  19. C'mon Jon, you really don't think any one of us is going to believe that for one second do you?
  20. Wondered what this thread was about for a minute. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. How are they working out Rob? Looking at giving them a go next after two pairs of Meindles. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  22. Thing is, reading the report again, he didn't actually fall on a slack system. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  23. 👍 Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  24. The last bit is correct though Alex. My offsider was explaining it to me earlier in round figures; the further you fall the greater the weight. We did work out how much a 5m fall would mean in kilos but I can't remember. From the sound of it though the guy didn't actually fall 5m. The way I read it, and I stand to be corrected, there was no slack in the line at all. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
