  2. Hammering it down in Manhattan. I think we have the tail end of a tropical storm. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. Talk to the two companies first and see what they have opportunity wise. They should be able to advise you about the visa process and, if you're, lucky, might even do the paper work. If not, it's relatively easy. Just make sure you have all your paperwork together. Police clearance, medical etc and you'll need to get certified copies of everything. You'll also need the job offer from whoever but both Asplundh and Treescape will be used to it as they employ a lot of arbies from the UK. Because they have a fast track through immigration they shouldn't need to prove that they can't find guys locally and just a case of getting your info off. Best thing to do is ring them. Get the times correct and give them a call. Might also be worth while dropping Will a PM as he works for Asplundh I believe so he should be able to give you some further info. 4. Oh, and the Visa can be a one, two or three years but if you talk to NZ immigration OR an immigration lawyer, they'll advise you how to do it. You shouldn't need heaps of quals either but experience will count. I believe Asplundh might still have a guy in the UK helping out with the paper work but it was a while ago I heard that. If you're really keen, get on the phone to both outfits or check out http://www.trademe.co.nz under jobs (arborist). If there's nothing that suits, talk to the office people but DON'T email. 5. Talk to Asplundh or Treescape. Easy entry, they have a quick approval through immigration. Big outfits so you might end up just a number but it'll get you here quick. If you don't like the employer when you're here, as long as you get another employer to take over sponsorship, I.e. offer you a job and prove that they can't get a NZer to do the job, then it's easy to swap over your visa. I believe arborists are still on the skills shortage list. Either of the first two outfits though will offer you decent employment for a start up and there's some good guys work there. Easy. 6. New Jersey Jon. beautiful day but boy it was hot. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  7. Try a NY taxi driver Jon. Suicidal is the best description. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. Ok so it was about 90 today and I'm sunburnt! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. Even hotter today Jon. It's about 9 in the morning and already hotter than yesterday. Apparently they're having a cold snap back in NZ and its down to -5. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. Well I can tell you it's about 75 degrees and 95% humidity in Manhattan currently Jon. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. Haha, that happened to me but I preferred NZ so beware, the lure might be too much once you're here. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  12. My retired airstreams are now my primary walking boots, and the most comfortable. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. Burns well, quick to season and makes excellent kindling. I always grab it for firewood if its on offer. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. Really? Every utility I've worked for has banned wire core because of the conductivity issue. That included MANWEB, SWEB and SEB. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. Almost ready fire wooded. I miss being able to burn all the rubbish. A little more relaxing than cutting, chipping, noise etc. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. Bears a striking resemblance to the funnel web. Maybe related, keep an eye on the bite for infection. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. Got an infection in one of the tubes in my left nut once. Felt like Someone had an elastic band around it. Constant ache. Antibiotics didn't help much but anti inflammatories and getting the mrs to be a bit more gentle did. Hope things go well at the quacks. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  18. I'm not sure your ISA will carry much weight either. It usually needs to be a qualification from a recognised teaching institution that results in a ND, HND or NC and even then it will probably have to be cross credited by the NZQA. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  19. You can get one and 3 year work visas but not sure you can work on a holiday visa. Best bet is apply for a one year work visa, get a job with an Arb outfit and if you like it and they like you, just extend the visa. If you apply for residency you can stay in the country while your application is assessed. Alternatively, talk to one of the big two, get sponsored from the get go and work from there. Don't try and work if your visa doesn't allow it as you'll screw all chances of visas, residency etc and you'll be hoofed out on the next plane if caught. The NZ immigration website has quite a bit of info. Failing that, it's worth a call to an immigration consultant or NZ house. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  20. Skilled migrant category will require either 5 years experience or a 3 year college certificate such as ND amd possibly both. You can apply for residency under the work to residence category if you fall short in either of the above but you will require sponsorship for at least two years with one company in order to qualify. At the moment I think only Asplundh and Treescape are registered as participating in the work to residency. Failing that, get a 3 year work visa, which will require sponsorship but is easier than applying for residency. Application criteria is not as strict. Once you have the visa you can cross credit your current qualifications and do top up courses to get your ND. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. The contents of the first 4 feet of stem of today's take down. At least what we could get out anyway. Last private job now for seven weeks so I really don't care but we managed to miss all of them.
  22. Yet I bet someone will buy it.
  23. Isn't that going to cost you an arm and a leg in excess baggage? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  24. Tree scape and Asplundh are in both countries, big outfits and a reasonable start point for quick employment. Nearly always looking for workers and will help you at least get a foot in the door. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  25. My neighbour warms up his land cruiser on his driveway. Most times it's ok but at 4 in the morning before he goes hunting and it can start to get on your nerves after a while. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
