  1. Not that I know of David, I don't climb so only going from what I can see from the ground. Here's some photos.
  2. At one of the sites I work at there is a huge horse chestnut, This year the leaves have remained small to the point where from a distance it actually looks bare. Does anyone have any idea what can be causing it? There is no fungi visible from the ground, by all intents and purposes it looks like a big healthy tree usually. There has been no flowers this year either whereas another horse chestnut 40 feet away flowered fine. Any ideas greatly appreciated .
  3. Well, I've started on a dolphin, got the basic shape, not entirely happy with it tbh, but it is my first go at one, I'll post a pic when I've finished. Do you guys have a photo of the subject you're carving whilst your doing it or is it purely out of your heads?
  4. Thanks chaps, a dolphin will be next then, got a good piece of wood for that One other thing, what wood do you find best to use? My favourite so far was eucalyptus, the worst was sycamore.
  5. I'm really enjoying carving as my new hobby, I've done 9 mushrooms so far, I thought the mushrooms would be a good thing to start with to get used to the control. the first few were a bit suspect but i'm quite pleased with the later ones. I haven't got a carving bar yet, I'm using my little 235 Husqy with a 14" bar which can be a bit cumbersome. I've posted a picture of a few, I have since sanded them down and i'm quite pleased with them. Couple of questions to you old hands: 1) what is the best treatment to use on the sculptures? linseed, beeswax etc? 2) what would suggest I attempted next as I feel i'm ready to step away from the mushrooms? (so does the wife as there are 9 in the front garden now!!) Thanks guys.

  7. I always use the brake if I'm moving about especially in woods where it's so easy to trip over something. It's just as much a habit as flicking down the visor.
  8. Thanks everyone, I think it would more than likely be the caritool. I don't fancy the backpack, I'm foreseeing a cut in the back of the head
  9. Hello everyone, I've seen a couple of videos, can't remember which ones now, of blokes using a chainsaw holder which puts the saw behind them on the belt line, I've searched for them everywhere online but I can't find them. Does anyone know what they're called? Who makes them etc... Thanks in advance
  10. Head sets?? Head sets?? Sets?? For your head?? Sorry, couldn't resist a phoenix nights quote there, Feel free to admonish me!! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. I had it a good few years ago, at the time I was learning to drive and had split up from my then missus and was adjusting to being a single dad. so yeah it's fair to say it's bought on by stress.I had a patch of it just above my arse cheek. felt proper rough for about 3 weeks, but I didn't have any treatment as I didn't go to the doctors. I plastered the rash with savlon constantly which eased it a little. hope you get better soon, tis nasty.
  12. yeah fair enough, I've done tree and hedge jobs and worked around the offending turds by marking it with a stick in the grass. but when you're lawnmowing you really don't want to be faced with a lawn full of montys because it's inevitably going to end up on you and machine, personally if a tradesman was going to be working in my garden I'd make sure it was clear of crap first, it's just plain manners!!
  13. my next tat is a tree on my side and chest which will have roots going around names on my side. just got to wait until my tattooist has sobered up from his xmas/new year binge :-)
  14. I do a lot of grass cutting, and I've dropped customers before because of dog crap. I try to explain that I don't want it on my boots, in my van, on my machines. if it's just the odd stray turd I mow round it. I would never clear it myself!!
  15. yeah, I've got a fair bit of coverage, think it's fair to say I'm an addict :-)
