  1. Number 6 If you think a landy can be a money pit mogs can be a lot worse as parts can be eye watering in price You can't want a mog you've got to need one and have the right work to pay for it.
  2. I like your second option Khriss, got up late, built a snowman, went sledging, fry up and wine for lunch, few films this afternoon with kids helped along with a few Guinness perfect snow day to me [emoji106]
  3. Can you imagine some of the stuck up mums at your local school in the BMW 4x4 out changing the wheels over when the weather changes.... Would just end up being a money making opportunity for ever tire place. Quite agree with you j as recently I've seen more 4x4s with low profile rubber bands stuck or slipping about then ever before, isn't helped by a lot of people having no idea how to drive in anything but perfect condition because they feel protected by all the technical stuff in modern cars and just expect it to go and stop when they tell it to. When I was in Finland they had to do a winter driving course before qualifying for a full licence, not really applicable for the condition we get but something wouldn't hurt.
  4. Just look at the tiny legs that were trying to hold that up. Is the theory that when the trucks empty your working close in starting the tree and as you work out a cross the tree and increases reach the truck is getting heavier with chip so more stable... [emoji848] Possibly a reason why we don't see many of these setups in this country. I think the Facebook picture posted have somewhat distracted from Kevin's original post and question.
  5. It's not a pressure sensor like that on a forst but a light sensor of sorts.
  6. Glad I spotted this thread as was just watching some workout videos this morning with these to help rebuild my core strengths which has definitely dropped with not climbing as much recently and having staff do more. Some of the routines look brutal but definitely appeal as work groups of muscles and cardio all in 1 set of reps so you can get a good whole body battering in quite a short time.
  7. That's not true, they just have a far more advanced and developed disregard to safety than we do
  8. No they produce methane which is a bad gas for the environment.....
  9. Easier way to test the hood sensor is slot a 17mm socket over it with the hood open if it runs fine you know it's the gap changing from the hood vibration tripping it if it still cuts out or won't start its a faulty sensor, it's how we fooled ours whenever we had to bleed the fuel system after filter changes.
  10. That's quite a step up in chipper Ian, well done for joining the American beast revelation [emoji106] Is the flap at the front of the chip box built to let air out or just remnants of the smaller catcher? Used a bc1000 for a while and found it very good but incredibly massy as chip seems to go everywhere.
  11. From the two articles kevin has posted and a bit of quick research a lot of platform/tree work accidents are in the states and on quite old booms the 1st being 25 years + old. From some of the videos I've watched the booms they run seem to have quite different geometry to what we see over here and much smaller outriggers and rely more on base mass. Quite interested to find out if they require 6 monthly lola checks and have to be fitted with all the check valves our regulations stipulate are required...
  12. This is what's on my screen. Not sure if I'm looking in the correct place but looked everywhere to no joy
  13. Turkey fat this year because the shopping elf forgot goose fat nd I'd cooked the turkey Christmas eve so all the juices had separate nd left a nice skim of fat so waste not want not, very tasty was the general concensus.
  14. When did the app get a update, just noticed a few changes which most I quite like but Carnt find a link to arbtrader anymore.
  15. I'm actually quite a fan of mewp's and think they do have a very important part to play within our industry BUT they are definitely not the only solution to the problem of working safely. To an inexperienced climber on a difficult tree they could be better but to someone with a lot of experience with a tight drop zone they would be a hindrance. Part of the problem and so the dislike of mewp's especially among employees is no one machine will be correct to every situation and poor or lack of choice can often lead to the machine actually making things harder and therefore sometimes more dangerous. Not quoting any facts but in my opinion over half the incidents involving mewp's have stemmed from a poor choice in machine and mostly from having too smaller reach positioned badly. It also takes time and practice like climbing to learn how to take a tree apart from a basket, the sequence is often different and rigging has to be set different to make sure material is taken away from both the boom and the base. It all comes down to making the best call for each individual situation and no legislation should take away that ability to make that call as this industry is so diverse in what we are faced with on a daily basis unlike say steel frame erecting where one site will be almost the same as the next and everything is quantifiable.
  16. I'm with you on that 1, kids were so excited this year and got some cool presents for me to play with once they are in bed
  17. Sorry about that not running, had won some good prizes over the years, never claimed last year's and was going to see if it could be put back into this year's.
  18. Definitely an old school legend, plenty we can learn from these people.
  19. That's brilliant [emoji106]
  20. I don't know about a naughty elf but I definitely feel like I've had a visit from the fcuk fairy this week with everything that's gone wrong so far.
  21. Evening Mr shires, long time no see... Hope your well. You know me, just nurturing my state of debt a bit more [emoji12] Joking aside its a really good combination, just need to find time to build a light alloy body for her to increase legal payload [emoji56]
