  1. That's quite a step up in chipper Ian, well done for joining the American beast revelation [emoji106] Is the flap at the front of the chip box built to let air out or just remnants of the smaller catcher? Used a bc1000 for a while and found it very good but incredibly massy as chip seems to go everywhere.
  2. From the two articles kevin has posted and a bit of quick research a lot of platform/tree work accidents are in the states and on quite old booms the 1st being 25 years + old. From some of the videos I've watched the booms they run seem to have quite different geometry to what we see over here and much smaller outriggers and rely more on base mass. Quite interested to find out if they require 6 monthly lola checks and have to be fitted with all the check valves our regulations stipulate are required...
  3. This is what's on my screen. Not sure if I'm looking in the correct place but looked everywhere to no joy
  4. Just looked and still Carnt see it
  5. Android
  6. Turkey fat this year because the shopping elf forgot goose fat nd I'd cooked the turkey Christmas eve so all the juices had separate nd left a nice skim of fat so waste not want not, very tasty was the general concensus.
  7. When did the app get a update, just noticed a few changes which most I quite like but Carnt find a link to arbtrader anymore.
  8. I'm actually quite a fan of mewp's and think they do have a very important part to play within our industry BUT they are definitely not the only solution to the problem of working safely. To an inexperienced climber on a difficult tree they could be better but to someone with a lot of experience with a tight drop zone they would be a hindrance. Part of the problem and so the dislike of mewp's especially among employees is no one machine will be correct to every situation and poor or lack of choice can often lead to the machine actually making things harder and therefore sometimes more dangerous. Not quoting any facts but in my opinion over half the incidents involving mewp's have stemmed from a poor choice in machine and mostly from having too smaller reach positioned badly. It also takes time and practice like climbing to learn how to take a tree apart from a basket, the sequence is often different and rigging has to be set different to make sure material is taken away from both the boom and the base. It all comes down to making the best call for each individual situation and no legislation should take away that ability to make that call as this industry is so diverse in what we are faced with on a daily basis unlike say steel frame erecting where one site will be almost the same as the next and everything is quantifiable.
  9. I'm with you on that 1, kids were so excited this year and got some cool presents for me to play with once they are in bed
  10. Sorry about that not running, had won some good prizes over the years, never claimed last year's and was going to see if it could be put back into this year's.
  11. Definitely an old school legend, plenty we can learn from these people.
  12. That's brilliant [emoji106]
  13. I don't know about a naughty elf but I definitely feel like I've had a visit from the fcuk fairy this week with everything that's gone wrong so far.
  14. Yes its the 3ltr 150hp so pulls really well.
  15. Evening Mr shires, long time no see... Hope your well. You know me, just nurturing my state of debt a bit more [emoji12] Joking aside its a really good combination, just need to find time to build a light alloy body for her to increase legal payload [emoji56]
  16. The rack is there for some protection from stray falling branches but didn't really do anything for a 4ft lump of 8" cherry [emoji24]
  17. This is it. Handy that it can still tow stuff to site so often fetches the grinder out or just a trailer for logs or as 1 unit for hedge cutting
  18. One of my setups 7k van and 40k chipper which in my mind is a far better distribution of funds because if the van breaks get another or hitch the chipper to something else and carry on but if the chipper brakes then your not working. If your going down the chipper route I'd consider going big and American as most firms don't have this and run smaller machines and increasingly sub 750kg so when a big job comes in that becomes the choke point so hiring in a bigger machine makes sense and worth decent money. Like a few have said a big grinder can work well as a stand alone service, tracked mewp or mini loader are also things a lot of companies don't own or use often enough to justify having but will become increasingly in demand as the benefits are realised more widely and can also cross over to other industries so upping the number of potential clients and filled days. I'd say I almost cover the cost of our landy cherrypicker each year with extra jobs especially little 1 or 2 hr jobs fitted in around our regular working day putting up signs, chimney liners, slipped roof tiles, running cables inside farm buildings etc that the client is happy to pay a decent bit for as its easy and convenient for us to drop in and do with them.
  19. Problem I'm finding with that 1 is " I haven't a clue what your on about but it looks fine to me" syndrome sneaking in which is a difficult 1 to overcome if they aren't willing to listen and learn.
  20. Cracked 2 off at the back as 1 off my sternum playing rugby then ended up with a chest infection and a hacking cough which was a interesting few weeks of pain. Surely a spout you can easily lift of isn't going to be heavy enough to affect the centre of gravity that much. Saying that when we had a quadchip we always folded the spout down for travelling but that was more to stop it wobbling around and stressing the mounts.
  21. They take my landy cherrypicker fine, just cut 4 8x4 sheets in half and use them to run onto grass to save damage.
  22. We didn't have to luckily as a naighbour asked if he could have all the timber so happily piled it on his drive. Otherwise it would have been a two man lift and sore shoulder tonight. Had this 1 about 5 years now and it's had a lot of abuse as half the time it's been used its attached to a winch and it now lives on the drawbar of the chipper so it's there if needed, even just for taking gear from truck to tree.
  23. All my gear and it's back to old faithful today
  24. I personally have a botex trailer for my tractor which shifts our big stuff and it's surprising how inventive you become with it to avoid manual handling. I bought a grab and rotator and made a bracket that can fit both a 2.5 and 8 ton digger which I can easily hire from a small local place as nd when it suits the job which saves having it sat costing when not working and no service costs. Arb trolly and winch on bandit chipper also works well for bringing timber in reach of botex. I've has a power barrow with a modified carrier for timber which worked very well as could scoop up quit a lump or stack smaller stuff on it easy but with the tracks grass damage was still a issue and boards needed as there is no finesse with the stearing. My honest answer is like everything in this job no 1 thing is perfect so you need to work out what is going to do the most for you and try find other options locally when needed.
