  1. As a comparison, we weighed off a cubic metre of wet, freshly cut and split mixed hardwood logs, and they weighed 690kg.
  2. I've always used starter cord. Its a good idead to take the starter recoil off when you change the clutch or put a new rim on and then theres no danger of snapping the starter cord if you forget to pull a bit out.
  3. Beaver plant charge £15 a pair.
  4. Looks a well planned, well executed piece of work.
  5. Nice one Pete!
  6. Low rear tyre pressures and getting the draught right, so the front wheels are just brushing the surface, mean you get excellent grip, good manouverability using the foot brakes and you don't excessively chew up the ground.

I can't imagine why there is so much resistance to having your stuff independantly examined? It doesn't cost thousands, does it? Why take the chance of an insurance wrangle? You would waste more earning time than the money you think you'd saved. Put in perspective, any little 'knock it out on the way home job' like the one on Watchdog thats been recently discussed, would pay for it. On the other hand, I am in favour of others not Lolering, means less competition on proper work with decent clients.
  8. Just the drinks cabinet mate...
  9. Is that with one trailer or two?
  10. Depends whether its your van or the bosses van....
  11. Take a hesston bale in the trailer. Fell the tree onto the bale. Use the straw to fire the tops. Take the trunk away in the trailer.
  12. No! 50mph isnt it, strictly speaking?
  13. No tractors, but here's a homemade log / brash grab on a set of forks and a homemade attachment for an excavator for cutting the tops off overgrown field hedges. Farm workshop-a-tastic!
  14. Is it 3 Dogs?
  15. Reversing as fast as poss and then changing up a gear into overdrive with a double de clutch! Used to make passers by look twice!
  16. How about pushing the yellow knob down in the landy when you had a big lump to pull over.
  17. Only just come on and seen this thread! I can say I've done most of all thats been said, but I have never painted wounds with Arbrex! Theres nowt wrong with 24mm staplespun...... pulled a great big tree over backwards last friday with it, reminds me its still in the back of the landy and wants hanging up for next time.
  18. Market Weighton.
  19. Ah ha! Drilling and jacking was where I was going with it...
  20. How small do you need the pieces to be to get them out the garden?
  21. What are the dimensions of the log?
  22. Why endanger yourself working from a ladder? Just fell it at the bottom and endanger yourself there instead.
  23. Yuck! Would make cheap beaters transport for a shoot though, but I wouldn't like to take it on a public road.
  24. Cheers Skyhuck! You will like that tip even more because the bloke that showed it to me didn't have a chainsaw ticket! I have shown that raker tip to a few people and all agreed it makes a significant difference. I have picked up plenty of little snippets of this and that from the forum so thanks to Steve for a great site and the networking opportunity it creates. Thanks to 18 Stoner for showing me the cambium saver with a pulley tip. Thanks to Pete McSheffrey and Bob for little advanced rigging tips which have helped fine tune our procedures to great effect. Thanks also to MonkeyD for making me stop and look more closely at tree fungi.
  25. Spot on , that!
