  1. Therefore, sending all the drive to the wheel with least resistance on each axle.... I'm sure I can hear an echo...
  2. Its not. Theres no centre diff on a hilux. Its like the old series Landys with the yellow knob. A late model land rover with a centre diff locked will drive the wheel with least resistance on each axle.

    slang !

    Spaghetti Arms !!! love it!!
  4. So I suppose it Horses for Corsa's, then?
  5. Ooo Arrr! It'll be me then. We keeps 'er in the kitchen and the hens like to roost on 'er of an evenin'.
  6. I have a land rover. If its a large back leaner, unless you anchor the landy, you will pull it to the tree.
  7. Couldn't resist! Soz!
  8. My observations were not directed at anyone specifically, they were just general observations. If your only doing firewood as a bit extra, then what the hell? I don't do firewood. If I did go into it, I would look very closely at volumes, weights, cost of production, cost of premises, storage, drying time, local market competition, etc. etc. etc.... If I want a 'bit extra', I do some more tree work.
  9. Only one I could find with it folded down.
  10. The discharge chute folds down. The hopper lifts off. I'll see if i can find a pic of it folded.
  11. Your not wrong with the turning length Stevie. The reduction in the bill for not removing arisings off site and extra labourers dragging it all out is usually enough to sweeten the smell of the diesel fumes.....
  12. Hopper comes off with 2 bolts and a spring clip. Takes less than a minute. The one in the pic is a hire machine. Mine has a folding chute modification so I don't need to remove it to go thru a doorway.
  13. A lot will depend on your existing set up and vehicles. If you are looking at using an existing set up, there won't be many transits which are kitted out for tree work that have a payload of 1250kg David. you will probably have to take all the tools and men on another vehicle. Not saying its not do-able, its probably not very efficient. If you run a bigger truck then its not going to be a problem. Cheaper in the long run to put someone through the trailer test IMO.
  14. Get a fishing rod tied onto the drawbar and you could be a mini-me version of Skyhuck!
  15. I am still amazed about the general perception of volume, and the way people talk about 'tonnes' and 'loads', 'trailer fulls' and 'pick up fulls' Both locally, and from contributors on here. There appears to be a wide range of people from those who are a little liberal with the truth , to those who are more or less giving it away! If I was retailing a product, I would want to know exactly how much each bag, box, net, trailer or whatever, contained!
  16. Putting a stick or wedge in a shallow gob is to make the tree jump forward. I believe this to be a Kerf Dutchman as opposed to the swinging Dutchmen in the vids.
  17. Excellent watch. Always more than one way to skin a cat.
  18. Not very handy if you need the toilet in a hurry!
  19. We just give them a squirt of wd40 when they are going to be used. I made the mistake of putting a new trimmer down on a lawn in an immaculate garden once on a bone dry day. Went to use it the next week and it was rusty as hell. Mentioned it to the customer and it turned out a lawn treatment man had been and fertilised the lawn a few days before we went in. A salutory lesson learnt.
  20. This thread has come full circle in 21 pages Stevie! Originally, you didn't want anything on tracks and you wanted to leave the chips in the back garden!!!
  21. I would appreciate a spare if you have got one, Bob. If you only have one, Gibby's got first dibs on it though. Part No. is , or was if its been changed, 503 54 26-01 The lttle grommet bit that it fits into on the cover is 503 54 38-01 Thats off the 1990 parts list for 262xp. You don't get a parts list nowadays with the instruction book, a failing by the manufacturers IMO.
  22. If you find a source I'll have one for my 262 please. Last time I enquired through the dealer it was listed as unavailable now. My 262 has only half of that assembly and still runs fine and is used everyday.
  23. David ,do you need a 130? If your just taking tools and men what about a twin cab 110? Plenty tree surgeons use them. Handier to manouver too. I had 40+ K off a set of XZL's, good off road but noisy on road and grip isn't that great. I've just changed to BFG a/T's in a wider tyre to try and maintain some grip whilst having better road manners. All landys will tow 3500kg.
