Saws like the 361 have a full throttle trigger time of about 4 hours anyway, when properly sharpened and maintained. Thats an immense amount of time. Even if someone was repeatedly feeding you logs to cut, take out the time off the trigger, rest breaks, refuelling etc. and you would never get near the maximum exposure level in a standard working day.
  3. Nice job, Rupe. I too wondered why you had 5 slings on the plate! Thanks for explaining!
  4. Its only 'extra' if it makes you more money than what you would normally make with your existing set up. I wouldn't turn away a days tree work to process and deliver out firewood, made from arb waste. However, I would consider it in a 'safety net' situation if I ran out of tree jobs. Everyone's set ups different and there's only so many hours in the day.
  5. Just an add on, I've never had problems with Stihl or Oregon chain when running an 8 rim. Had some Windsor chain once and split 2 chains dressing out some big spruce, which is very hard cutting.
  6. I've run all sorts on mine. Currently running a 15" .325 7 tooth sprocket. This is IMO the best all rounder. Carries an 18" .325 well. It used to run a 14" on an 8 tooth rim and was the dogs! 13" and 14" definately wants to be on an 8 rim. When I started doing my own jobs, out of work time, it was my only saw, and I used to have 15" and a 20" 3/8 bars and put on whatever was best for the work at the time. Felled loads of knackered field trees for farmers with the 20, swapped to the 15 to do the tops and logs, and then put the 20 back on to double cut the trunk into rings. Happy days. I like the 262xp, a very capable all rounder, when fitted with the right furniture.
  7. I was just thinking about this the other day when a job took longer than expected, more through the job parameters changing, than under-estimating. Nevertheless, there was more to it than I had imagined when first quoting. It only maybe happens once a year, but the common factor was squeezing in looking at the job on the way home, in failing light before the clocks change. Still havn't learnt!
  8. About what I thought. Cheers Mick.
  9. How long's it take to make and load them, Mick? Theres some fairly good size chunks in there.
  10. Whats the part no. embossed on the bar Quickthorn? I have an 18" power match bar in 3/8 and it needs 68 DL. An 18" Pro lite bar uses 64 DL Power match are the replaceable nose type.
  11. Tidy side reduction.

Must just come down to personal taste. I have had a 357xpg from new and have never liked it. Bought it to supplement/replace a 262xp. It just never felt right in the balance and and power delivery. Ironically the 357 became the 'backup saw' to the saw it was supposed to replace. The 262 is still in use and the 357 is languishing on a shelf nowadays. I like the feel and balance of the 361. One mans meat....

I bought a 361 W a few weeks ago for £532 + vat. 15" bar. Nice saw, we all like it. Heated handles are great, just turn them on for a while and switch off when it gets tooooo warm!
  14. Are you going to put a chip flap on the roof?
  15. Looks smart Pete. ... if a little "Harry Atkinson".
  16. Do you cut stuff up on a job in a handy size ready for ultimately turning into logs, or do you just get your timber off site as quick as poss and saw it up later when doing logs? Sorry if this sounds a bit nosey, but I don't retail firewood, the people I deal with all have different approaches to handling.
  17. Thats an impressive quantity. Is it all general mixed size arb stuff then? Rings and short lengths etc? How do you process it? How many guys?
  18. How much time do you estimate you have spent making that volume of firewood?
  19. Five 262xp's in regular use so far in this thread.
  20. Mentally challeged after a bottle of wine.
  21. The challange.
  22. 1993 262xp. Runs sweet as, but has just been put in second place with 361W. Interestingly, put both saws head to head into some ash logs with new chains on, and there was nowt to pick between them speed wise. Not a proper test, but both had 15" bars, stihl chains, Husky on .325 and Stihl on 3/8. Stihl was on semi, husky on chisel.
  23. 'Pinky and Perky' complain about everything. Pete just growls at them and they mince back inside!
  24. Ouch! Speedy recovery mate.
  25. Pete's neighbours that are likely to complain, like a 'bum'!!! Allegedly.
