  1. I thought that too! I always surprises me how many people I come across that are prepared to work, or carry on working with a saw thats not really sharp. It takes a minute or two to brighten up a dull chain when refuelling. The whole HAVS, anti-vibe and full throttle trigger time thing is made a mockery of when chains are poorly sharpened. Every one should have a copy of the little Oregon book.
  2. Tennis elbow is caused by gripping too tightly. At the risk of teaching you to suck eggs... Maybe change how you climb, spread the work around your colleagues a bit more, learn how to sharpen really well! No point gripping on and forcing a dull saw, nor hanging on heroically to a saw with the rakers removed! All gonna set the elbow off. Mine used to flare up from driving an overloaded Bedford chip truck with no power steering.
  3. Only today, three different farmers and landowners told me how they had thinned , managed and restocked woodlands, and planted new woods on agricultural land, this year, from their own pockets, as they didn't like the stringent and inflexible nature of the grant schemes. This has cost all three small farmers thousands £££. None expect to see any financial return on the work in future years, but they will get the landscape how they want it, for shooting, and the greater benefit of wildlife and amenity use. Doesn't this in some way mirror how Joe Public wants his garden? Same thing on a larger scale. He who pays the piper calls the tune.
  4. Ooooh! new website! I'll still just go in person! Is that shoulder getting better, Bob?
  5. Dunno about website? I just go in the shop.
  6. As stated, Beaver Plant are no longer Jensen dealers, but stock the parts. One of the best firms I have dealt with for customer service. No bull and a straight deal. I am a regular customer. Good shop too, for saws and climbing gear etc...
  7. Merry christmas and a safe and prosperous new year to all Arbtalkers. Cheers Everybody !
  8. "....Don't tell him, Pike!"
  9. If its been a windy day up a skinny tree, or all day in the mewp, I feel the motion at night when I'm laid down in bed. Feels like being on a rowing boat! Don't mind it really.
  10. You should be ashamed, robbing old Granny, telling her that it would fill her Sydney's van.
  11. My mothers car read -9 C this morning when I went to thaw it out for her. Brrrrrr.
  12. I had the 7.50/16 xzls on mine. They were excellent off road and rarely punctured. Not brilliant on the road and very noisy. Got 40K out of a set. Those wider ones will probably be better, and are a good price too for the wider wheel and tyre. Running BFG 265 AT's now, very pleased, good on the road and quiet, and plenty off road grip when pulling a trailer. Downside is they cover the truck in crap when going through really deep mud, as they barely just fit within the wheel arches.
  13. I have really cold hands, so I've taken to wearing some 'light duty' fingerless gloves from B+Q. Somene gave me a pair to try and they are great. The fingers go almost to the first knuckle which is fairly long, but you can write and manipulate things well in them. Its not a store I go into very often, but have been in and got a few pairs. They are good to climb in, and I hate climbing in gloves! Despite the light duty rating, they seem to last fairly well and dry quick.
  14. A bonkers landy for a bonkers bloke!
  15. Here's my mate Robin, a Zero tolerance shepherd!
  16. Do you have any bother with your insurers Dean, with the wheel spacers, or don't you bother telling them?
  17. He's getting a lot better at it now.
  18. Here's a pic from a few weeks back. As part of Dean, the new lad's, ongoing CPD, in typical tree gang form, after we had finished we let him do a small lunge, under supervision, of course. Optional 'rabbit ears' supplied by Lil' Dave. He was so excited he had to put his hands over his shiny red helmet.
  19. There's another net full of logs in that high stump, if the old lad can bend down that far.
  20. Clear your in box mate! Or ring me 01262 481090, Cheers, Nige.
  21. Looks a nice job to get your teeth into, Dean. Collaboration with other firms is often mutually beneficial, if you can find the right guys to work with. Better to have a slice of the pie rather than cutting each others throats to have it all. It works well, as long as there isn't too many chiefs....
  22. Its an untidy felling cut, but the guy's confident of his ability. No need to stop the traffic while doing the back cut.
  23. Thats a nice system Darren. I have a spare Target turntable stand in the garage, with some boots and wellies on it. So, in keeping with my retro 262xp and Willans harness.... Michell Gyrodec turntable, AT oc7 cartridge, Helios CD, Lynwood line equaliser, Musical Fidelity speakers and until recently, a Sugden Amp. Amp had a fault again and sick of repair bills so bought a cheap Cambridge Audio from Richer's to replace. Used to have all sorts on borrow/demo, as my brother was a hi fi dealer for a while. Back at the time, the Helios was THE best sub £1000 cd player available, (I ended up with one at trade price). ...... but it doesn't sound anything like as nice as the vinyl though.
  24. If the prussic will hold Pete, I would have no qualms about using one ! A bit like sending a gun to be proofed.
