  1. Here we go again .....
  2. I am all for mechanisation. This set up will probably work for your circumstances SWB. The point I was making was that for most companies you can't turn a three man gang into a two man gang, as theres more than likely two vehicles going to a job in the first place.
  3. I agree that the machinery takes the manpower out of the job, but don't forget that the machine needs to be transported to the site. Unless you are running a big chipper behind a lorry and can get all timber and arisings onto that in one load, you'll need an extra vehicle and driver to get the loader there. I too am looking at something like this for a particular job, but no one hires in our area.
  4. Beat me to it Dave.
  5. As I understand it, in a C/A you are not 'applying' for permission. You are giving notification of your intention to carry out works. The LA puts a TPO on to stop the works going ahead if they don't like it, or there are objections.
  6. I have had a good try with them. When the issue with the helmet mounts providing a good fit against the ear is resolved, I will likely get a pair. At the moment, for the price of them, they need to be perfect and they aren't quite there yet.
  7. Some elm boards or firewood. Winner to collect.
  8. Just go in your red landy and chuck a couple of lobster pots in the back and leave it at the bottom with the hazards on. People will think your 'loading'.
  9. No need for tickets or pre 97 license, however camera essential!
  10. A client of mine has recently bought a small tracked mewp called a Leguan. Leguan Lifts Oy - Leguan 125 series It has a large jockey wheel which raises and lowers so that you can jack the machine up and turn it on the spot with only the driving end of the tracks in contact with the ground ( like wheels) without pulling up grass or slabs or marking the surface. I've not seen it in operation but if it works like its supposed to, something similar could be fitted to a chipper. IMO its overkill for a tracked chipper, just drive carefully and use a board or two if you have to. One 8x4 rips down to four 8x1 boards which is all you need or would want to carry.
  11. Cheers David. Thats a couple of hundred yards out of 677!!! I'd need to be in the next parish to get the whole lot in one pic!
  12. Here's mine, Italmec R16.
  13. Cheers Pete, I'll pass that on to John. Like me, he's finally been dragged into the 21st Century, 9 years after it started! If your after a processer, you'll be needing some more wood?
  14. I don't stalk myself, havn't got the time, and you have to get up early! Here's a link to my mate John's website which may be of interest to those of you who are stalkers. Yorkshire Deer Stalking
  15. "Try it now, Dave. I think I've found what was blocking the pipe...."
  16. Did you get any further with your chipper/kindling machine? Lakes job, :001_cool:btw.
  17. Betty struggled to hold the remaining wall up after with one hand after George had inadvertantly taken down the other three, having drunk a bushel of pochin.
  18. Tell them you want it for your MS 180, Carl.
  19. Sorry mate, you've lost me ????
  20. 28 sec Gas oil and 32 sec gas oil.
  21. I was waiting for that!!!
  22. You can stay in a lot of 5* hotels for £22,000. We bought this heap for going to the Game Fair for £300. :001_tongue:
  23. Andy, they are a bit heavier than normal muffs. MonkeyD, young Dave is either rolling one up or looking at his phone! No harmonicas were harmed in the felling of this tree!
  24. The main problem with the headsets, in as far as we have trialled them, is that the fitting supplied to adapt them to a vertex or balance helmet type of fitting does not give a very good seal against the ear. They come with another type of fitting for other helmets as well, perhaps these are better. When we tried them the first time the other week just as normal headband type defenders they were much better. Its a shame something for several hundred quid is spoilt by some bits of plastic costing pence. But, it should be easy for the manufacturers to rectify, and we are after all giving them a real world trial. If they don't get feedback then they can't improve the product. I mentioned this to the guy on the Arborcom stand at the AA show and he said it was something they were aware of and were trying to improve. The only other niggle I had with them was that I could hear bob's saw through his microphone. If the saw had been louder, the electronics would have blotted it out, but it wasn't and it was a little annoying, but better when I turned down the volume on my set. Having done that Bob's speech was still clear, but I would have preferrred a little louder speech and a little less saw. Louder sounds such as the chipper and the saw I was using were blotted out almost completely. A big thank you once again to Viking Communications of York for the free loan and trial. I will be reluctant to have to return them! If they iron out the niggle with the correct head fitting I will buy a set. Viking Communications are on 01904 607466 ask for Daniel King. Home
