  1. i clipped my trousers whilst snedding a laurel and the saw kicked back and cut my trousers as the chain brake came on so it wasnt a full thickness penetration of the trouser but left me needing new trousers , having to clean all the crap out of the sprocket and a dirty great big bruise on my thigh, any higher and the saw not stopping it would certainly have been very uncomfortable:ohmy:. but i have never cut my flesh with a chainsaw but have with a silky on numerous occasions. Also nicked my self with a billhook whilst processing coppiced hazel.
  2. I told the EA in leeds that this thread was growing rapidly as everybody has been told one thing and now others are telling them something else. I was told that logs are fine as they are produce but woodchip is classed as waste:huh: and that the exemptions dont come into effect until next year:blink:
  3. not sure if it was actually winston churchill who said golf was a waste of a good walk

    Celox

just wondering if the test included traumatic amputation with possibility of reattachment of the limb. I have just shown this to my mum who is an ex theatre nurse who did old school training and this was the only thing she could think of:ohmy:
  5. masters, you could try buxtons near cannock chase as they are a fairly big supplier of arb gear and seem to be fairly reasonable to boot.
  6. at trees unlimited a nice cool 70 notes but if you were prepared to wait for 2 to 3 weeks the exact same helmet but with stein stickers on it was 69 notes:confused1: but they are really comfortable as they use bicycle helmet technology combined with rock climbing know how
  7. i did that too dean, got to the end of the path and couldn't see my landy and ended up having to trek half a mile to put my new lowering rope (thanks Nod:thumbup1:) in the landy and then got back to the missus and got an earful for being gone for ages.
  8. Dean might have some suggestions about this which are mentioned in an earlier thread somewhere on this site, just don't ask him about the blank shotgun cartridges and plastic carriers:001_tongue:
  9. condolences to all who knew bob. RIP
  10. i was at school in surrey at the time near holmbury st mary and slept right through it:confused1: Next morning the forestry commission area behind the school was totally flattened:scared1:
  11. scotty, lives not too far from me. v. infrequent nowadays.
  12. whereabouts in leeds are you moving to, because if you are moving to the wetherby area there is Bardsey Tree Services and Bartletts, in fact one of the members on here works for bartletts at tockwith. I might only be able to subby you on a very infrequent basis but pm me with details and i'll get back to you.
  13. dean, you could try protection and performance who made the land rover that just crossed the bering straits between russia and alaska and they're based in yorkshire at elslack near skipton. http://www.protectionandperformance.co.uk
  14. imo jason has made a mistake and has learnt from it and just wants everybody else to learn from what was probably a momentary lapse of clear thinking and oh dear the saw bites back. As nuggsy said no-one else was hurt or anything damaged apart from jason's pride (and his arm). but thats just my opinion.
  15. i think i'll back adansonia on that one although whilst you two fight over the OP, i might just sneak in and lift the last one:001_tongue: jim
  16. they sound like Arum or lords and ladies:alberteinstein:
  17. going on saturday but driving down with gf on friday. Staying at holiday inn express at stafford just off M6 at j13. Is everybody just meeting up at jonesie's then?
  18. wouldn't a parachute be better rather than a fall arrest harness? nice bit of kit though. Dont let Dean see this though!!
  19. thats the one pete! I thought i'd got you before you put your hand up:sneaky2: thanks for your advice and help. How's the heel holding up after a day's contract climbing?
  20. pete what happened to the photo of you that was taken on your camera? Don't say you deleted it! and there were more photos of the ladies taken when you asked me to go happy snappy. penfold
  21. i think a big thatnk you will be winging its way to pete and dean for organising a brilliant day today especially the zip line (once it was up after much work on the surrounding trees just to clear a route for it. Good thing the local version of swampy wasn't around to witness the tree being removed just so we had a clear run). I think those of us who aren't the best climbers either through lack of experience or just starting learnt a lot today so thanks for the chance to learn new techniques , I know i did.
  22. i know i'm a bit late with my tuppence worth here but as douglas bader was told by his CO "rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" so i suppose that rules out most local authorities and the government doesn't it?
  23. i have a pair of stretch airs and the only thing thats frayed on them is the little tab on the pocket zips although i dont know why as i never put my hands in my pocket unless its at the pub when im not on arbtalk:001_tt1: but they are probably the most comfortable trousers ive had and that includes sip freedoms. I'll just add that i'm not of slender build round the middle either so it cant be that that is causing problems, can it:confused1:
  24. franknewarb, if you're going to Askham Bryan make sure you get yourself to harlands garden machinery at green hammerton for youir ppe or to craig and sybill at trees unlimited (or is it bts now?) at farsley near pudsey. Also get as much as you can out of the instructors at ABC especially graham hewson the senior technician. Wherabouts in yorkshire are you based? jim (penfold)
  25. you pack your climbing gear for a weekend away because you never know; you visually inspect a tree before parking your battered land rover/transit/ldv/mog underneath it
