when i did a two day course a few years back, the instructor told us that if we were going to do a lot of hedging to get a horsehide mitt as very little penetrates it but you can still use a billhook (yorkshire of course:001_tongue:) with ease and this was from somebody who has done hedging since he left school in the forties.

the only things Italy did that helped us was playing mercato at 10 and having a scrum half who was at the best of times useless. Oh well at least my other team won today at croke park by being the better team on the field. (I support Ireland on the grounds that most of my forebears came from Ireland and also they're the only other nation in with a chance of winning the Title) smile

does anyone else think that englands performance in the second half could have been better, especially from the replacements. Pitbull's comment about the pushing was quite amusing: "What's the point of this pushing and shoving? If you're going to do something do it properly!" At least the chariot is now rolling sweetly and the leeds rhino's are on the charge as well after beating some unknown welsh team at headingley.

pop into your local saddlers shop and get some chromed leather armlets made up to cover the length of your forearm, any decent saddler or cordwainer should be able to knock some up. I got a cover made for a yorkshire billhook made at my local saddlers, cost about £30.

the only realistic part of full metal jacket is the Drill Sergeant, the bloke playing was an actual US marine drill instructor and he recently passed away. On the same subject Dale Dye is often credited as a technical adviser on films and stuff and he also gets to play the odd bit part eg he plays Tom Hanks' CO in saving private ryan as well as appearing in a lot of steven seagal films, often as his former co.
