  1. have a word with Jo Ryan at treesource, she has a good selection of books and knows her stuff as well.
  2. passy, i'm doing it at Askham Bryan College at york, fulltime but there are some lads who do it part time one day a week. The full time is 26 weeks .
  3. im currently doing the foundation degree full time as i'm self employed and the opportunity presented itself so i took it. Just finished first year and passed all my exams. This is my second bite at the HE cherry as i ballsed my hnd up when i was 19 () and i don't intend doing the same again.
  4. if you have a levels you could try the foundation degree part time at askham bryan at york or the online degree at myerscough. hope this puts you on the right course.
  5. How about the mazda b2500 pete? just to further confuse the issue:001_tongue:
  6. Headingley/kirkstall is a fairly large area johnny, lollypoppy was probably wanting a clarification on where exactly.
  7. only if your cack-handed kev:sneaky2:
  8. a carpenter or stone mason would have a mitre and set square on his head stone that looks like a pick and shovel to me
  9. he's on here as cutter mutter:thumbup1:
  10. whereabouts are you in the country? this might help people to give you advice on the best courses etc. I've just finished the first year of the foundation degree at Askham Bryan near York and it has been a good experience for me with a reasonable balance of theory and practical work. The degree is validated by Harper Adams University College but they have just changed the course slightly for the coming year.
  11. Does the MOD own part of this estate matt? If so i think they will have to offer it to the nearest descendants of the original owners under the Crichel down rules
  12. if the bloke in the picture is a local councillor, i feel sorry for you Ben as he looks like a typical nimby councillor. I have met his likes before when the leeds festival moved from temple newsam to bramham park which was about ten minutes from the local councillors house and he was saying that the disruption and crime that the event would bring to the village would be disastrous. About twelve years later and the event is still running at bramham park with hardly any disruption to the village and no crime apart from the odd speeding taxi.
  13. i use these gloves as well janey but i find my hands get too warm in them sometimes even with my reynauds:confused1:
  14. that's the good thing about the degree at askham bryan is that you have to do 150 hours of work experience each year unless you can prove that you have the experience. That and you have to do unit duties every week which is all practical work around the campus.
  15. a friend of mine is there selling his steak pies and beef produce Dishes To Dine for but he trades under Nova Scotia Farm produce. Top grub.
  16. i live not too far from the college so travel in each day but i think it depends on if you are in the main building, the smaller halls or the new ones. the new ones are en-suite, the rest are shared facilities. The people i know who were residential liked their rooms but the campus dies at weekends.
  17. shouldn't have bought them unseen mate:001_tt2:
  18. i wouldn't say the protector extreme was a climbing boot due to the metal plate in the sole scraping the bark off any soft barked species, the airpower gold is definitely a climbers boot. I find the haix boots are very comfortable and are good for everyday wear; i wear mine for treework and strimming and even gardening.
  19. you'll enjoy the course at askham bryan; i've just finished my first year of the Fdsc there so i will see you there in september
  20. try as many different types and makes as you can. See which are the best fit because wearing slightly ill-fitting boots for a long time even if it is only one or two days a week can lead to problems with feet ie ingrowing toenails etc. I speak from experience after buying a cheap pair of steelies which didn't fit properly enough and i suffered for it:sneaky2:
  21. my insurance with NFU covers my tools in any locked vehicle or building but saying that it is only a tradesmans policy. They now seem to only cover you for tree surgery if you already have a policy with them. Try arbinsure who are site sponsors on here
  22. I think you're onto the right thing with a lot of the things in your thread ELG but until we have the same sort of laws regrarding firearms and the protection of your property that you lads have in the US, i think there will be more threads about stolen gear. Ps I know what it is like to have kit and a vehicle stolen or broken into and have not particularly enjoyed either experience.
  23. whereabouts in leeds are you?
