  1. id only get the gloves for your assesment, as they are big and glumsy so rubber grip builders gloves give you way more control. i would imagine wellies are a nightmare in summer so prob best to spend on some good gore tex ones ,i find the haix protectors are good. stretch air trousers are good. it generally seems the more you spend on the gear the better it is, so if your gona be earning money at this full time then i would get the best you can afford, part time you might wanna make do. gd luck with assesment. carl.

    Yesterdays job

looks a nice job to do, handy to use the ice to your advantage for a change!
  3. hi skyhuck. ive been meaning to ask you about the letting off the tyres down when on soft ground as you mentioned it in an earlier thread. ive been reluctant to try it without knowing how much to let them down by and if tyre type makes a difference?? also keen to avoid loosing the tyre!! as being stuck is bad enough. your thoughts experiences would be great cheers carl
  4. would this prosses make any noticable difference on a unimog??genuinly curious.
  5. do they not supply domestic saws with a over size bar in order to slow the chain speed down?? or iam i making things up in my head?? do you guys not find the shorter bars harder on the back? carl.
  6. i think its a standard/set splice for 16 strand rope i had a go a while back and found it pretty tough going particuly on old rope, there was a member on here called "jamie" who helped me a lot:thumbup1: so maybe he could help you, i gave up when i entered the dreaded loler, ce mark senario!! good luck with it. carl
  7. id say after a week or so your prussic may begin to bite on the rope a bit!

    Unimog

we have two of them at work, they do seem to break down a fair bit in my opinion air issues seem to be our main prob. i think the key is to get a good mechanic who is familliar with them and preferably has an agricultural/ engineering backround. we have a local place and they seem to be able to mend or fabricate a lot of bits which saves loads as new merc parts cost the earth. also going off road i have got them stuck a good few times with a full load of chips( could well be my dodgy driving!!) one last thing agri tyres are pricey and seem to wear down pretty quick on roads. good fun machines tho, best to work for someone who has them... all the fun without the headaches!! good luck gettin one carl
  9. if you were bothered about time and fuel and wear on the saw why did you give him a 260 to ring up a huge lump of wood???! since he is subbing to you you can either teach him to do it properly or not hire him in the future, no great hassle either way i wouldnt of thought. just my 2cents in the mix carl
  10. cheers guys he gave the battery a good charge and that seemed to fire her up ok.
  11. i am currently loving the lock jack, i would definitly recomend trying to borrow one for a day or two climbing, a bit fast etc but to me there are some definite advantages that outway its sensetivity. just my 2cents. carl.
  12. thanks guys i will check the fuel re waxing( my bosses mog not mine) was thinking to try and warm the air intake it used to work on my old dodge truck fine. so is easy start a no no then !!? ive never tryed it the name always sounded appealing. however i now have more interesting fish to fry because some idiot (being me) added intifreeze to and old bmw and didnt turn it over to mix it so i now have a major thawing session for tommorow hopefully no head damage.. pray mat out. thanks carl
  13. cheers for posts. was just a bit worried as a client bought them on sat ready for me to plant today and we now have loads of snow and i cant get there again till this sat, he has them so i cant heal them in but sounds like they should be fine. thanks again.
  14. got a unimog thats bit reluctant to start in the very cold, just wondering the best procedure?? ie is there a special way to start them? kinda annoying as the other one starts fine. cheers carl.
  15. how long will small blackthorn bare root last in a sack? were due to plant today but we have a load of snow on the ground. any thoughts on the best way to keep them would be good. i figured to keep the warmish with the roots damp?? cheers carl.
  16. looks good very n simple, iam currently on a simillar set up that a friend spliced up for me but its probably time to get somthing new and it would have to be a single pulley as the lack of friction is great( although has taken some getting used to with the lockjack!! my desents went somthing like freefall... stop... freefall... stop.
  17. thanks for all the replys. it seems i need to get a chest assender then, also does anyone know of a set up video of the tree frog?? in this system is it possible to descend halfway through the assecnt?? iam guessing the lockjack dosent work on a single rope. thanks carl.
  18. cool thanks will have a good look at that a lot of good info there.
  19. just looking for some ideas techniques for srt, mainly involing the kit i have at work which is a lockjack, pantin foot asc, and a hand asc,. is it possible to rig somthing from that gear?? just thought it would be a good techniuque to have in the back pocket. i have looked at some set ups but the gear and set up time has put me off. any thoughts tips would be great cheers carl
  20. we have the older 260 and seems very reliable and a handy size, i would definally buy either a 261 or 346 as my next saw. not sure about all this better emissions for the environment bit i guess its all good but on a chainsaw..?? are they not one of the most potentially unenvironmently sound things you can get? carl
  21. looks like an intresting one. alright to climb id say although assuming your not gonna rig off it, it could prove tricky to reliably hand throw all the stuff away from the green house etc, just thinking of the climbing/ anchor position( mabey fine tho). also who pays for any thing broken??!! hopefully not you out of the £150! good luck with it anyhow carl
  22. yes magnus that did cross my mind but i was worried about melting the existing seals and still not getting it off thus rendering my saw useless, took it to the shop yesterday so hope it gets fixed cheers carl
  23. does look a bit odd i used picese of tenex for months and they always looked worn but never frayed like that, still got a lock jack now so no dicking around with slipping or sticking prussic cord!
  24. tell some one with a hi ab or teleporter there is some free oak fire wood buyer must collect, job done all you have to do is point!!( well might work) carl
  25. oh they have worked
