thanks for the links, looking at them i think i might of used the locking brummel on one side of the eye and the tapered splice back in on the other??? is this a way of doing it or have i got confused? cheers caRL.

hi just been asked to cut and spray and weeded and brambled up garden, not massive. my thought was to strim back hard to the ground and rake and remove all debris then go back in a couple of weeks and spray regrowth with round up. question being is this the best order to do it? any thougts would be good. p.s its a bit tall at moment to walk and spray cheers carl.

i spoke to a repair shop today and he also thought that it could be the crank seal. iam gona fit a new plug and play with it a bit more then maby to it to the shop if i cant get any joy. seems the general thought is there great saws!! just not this one at this point in time. thanks again carl

thanks for the replys, i recon had you been in the workshop earlier i would of paid you to have it!! with regards to the crank seals leaking would this cause bar oil to leak? ( as this is happening too) not sure if they are connected never taken it apart to that extent. i may also try and get a different set of coils thanks again carl.

hi iam using an old 254 and ive tuned it up as per manual (right i think!) seems to run fine then if left for a few minuites ticking over it dies and wont start again.?? i take the plug out its not flooded tho as the saw is hot i give it a quick wipe and uasally the saw starts and runs again any thoughts would be good as its a bit annoying. cheers carlos.

i was thinkking that a book from libarry or amazon would be a good bet to help get you going. the one i used was by keith rowley cant think of the name somthing obivous i think. the book would cover speeds, chisels, techniques and all that. beech and ash are nice easy woods to work as is sycamore, you will need a bench grinder to keep tools sharp and you will need to keep sharpening them often in order to gain the best finish on the piece. yew and box and holly are great but be a shame to practice on the really. hope that helps carl.

i use a home made one which has the same pulley as the art one and its great i dont think i would climb on a normal cambium saver again, still its pricey but making the day easier over the months would be worth it imo. carl

hi get on ok with mine feel its a good comfy harness although some of the above bad points raised i would have to agree with but have not been so bothered by them, id say if you could try a few different ones on would be the best bet. carl

hi alex. just done the rfs course failed one bit but we wont talk about that!! your book list looks good to me i bought and borrowed quiet a few of those books and found them helpfull, as to the health and safety the internet is probably best for all the up to date regs and acts etc. good luck carl.

i presume you are doing the distance course through hcc. just finished my last lesson tonight( yipee!!) on the down side i too failed one of the papers. i found the course work a bit daunting at first but it got a lot easier as i went on. also i found some of the workbooks were a bit cut and paste and some of the info didnt seem to be in the right order. enjoy it and feel free to ask any questions although since i failed might be better off with an answer from many of the knowledgable folk on the forum. carl.

hi just wondered if any one could recomend a good book on tree fungi. types, invaision techniques, trees effected, rot types etc. its for revision for rfs level two. i fancy somthing kinda clear and not to heavey that i switch off!! any thoughts would be great thanks carl

hi guys thanks for the advice , it sounds like the specieal muller style trailers are the best bet really, are the rockinger hitches strong enough just they dont look that beefy. ill pass this on to the boss as hes the one with the wallet! thanks again carl.

hi thanks for input , i am hoping to do all the modules i think ?? its a full days exam anyway. i know what you mean about distractions the worst one is the internet usaully just end up on arbtalk watching reg coats latest inspiring video!! instead of studying. cheers and good luck to any one else taking it carlos.

hi we have a unimog at work with a high up hitch, a rockinger? i think. i dont think that will fit most farm trailers. just wondering the cheapest and most straight forward way to fit a hitch that would enable us to borrow standard tractor trailers for movin timber. thanks carl.

hi just signed up to sit the exam in december. just after advice tips etc on how to prepare ( and pass!!) the exam. also iam doing the course distance through hcc and wondered how the course marks questions grades compered to that of the external exam. thanks carl

had mine for a couple of years ( not 5 days a week use mind) but seems fine as does the rest of the harness.carl

ive been climbing on atree flex for a year or so and found it fine and comfy the only thing i have found is that it gets a bit slack after a while and needs tightening but maybe all harnesses do this a little. havent climbed on that many different ones, so cant compare really. carl

intresting that this has come up again there was a thread similar a while ago. it seems to me that there needs to be a governing body that runs splicing courses and issues competency certs that are reconised by loler so that people can do there own splices properly. a while ago i got all intersted in splicing(maily due to halving a few ropes, nother story!!) and started doing some but the loler inspecter told me that he wouldnt pass them without me having a cert from the rope manufactures none got back to me regarding this so i gave up on the idea shame because it was intersting subject hopfully this grey area will come to light and a system put in place for the arborist to safley and legaly splice his/her own rope. carl.
