  3. iam currently doing a city and giulds basic welding night class that covers arc, mig and tig. finding it brilliant lots to be learnt plus we have spent a fair bit of time disscussing different plant options so the cousre may help you make an informed descion on which machine. as others have said an auto darkening helmet is a must. enjoy carl
  4. much prefer the look of the older ones. cant help wondering the price of the computer chip thingy that ur local agri mechanic cant fix in the new ones. the spares for the old ones are enough. carl
  5. why the hell were they trying to pull it towards the house when there was room the way it wanted to go!??? there is a ton of these on the net, shouldnt laugh as some people end up hurt but hard not too.
  6. unfortunatly not , they wernt super big limbs (not small either)but he ended up with his anchor limb and the one beneath that he was rigging all hanging off him and me holding the slack rigging line looking confused and going a bit pale!! just glad he had put his lanyard on.luckly he was a beefy bloke and was ok. again thoughts to the climber of the thread. carl
  7. wish him all the best in his recovery. saw the same thing happen only the guy luckly had his lanyard cliped round a different stem very scary to watch. i think including details if known helps to keep others safer. all the best carl.
  8. painting a very CONVINCING picture of its capability!! thanks again for the feedback very handy to hear from people who have started to use them. thanks carl p.s think it could be time to rewrite the xmas list!
  9. just curious has anyone had a karribiner fail when used in this manner?? not saying its right or wrong. scotty your prob right, tend to use a mixture of all three techniques, just rope , sling and karribiner and the odd bit of karribiner, also thing there is a PDF doc on this subject somwhere on here. carl
  10. cool thanks would an eye splice thread through without the qiuck pin thing?? i really like the sound of being able to swap between systems. thanks carl.
  11. dosent look too bad but the way i see it is they made it size and thickness for a reason so for sake of a few quid you dont have to keep looking at it the higher you go.
  12. thinking about the rope wrench but most of our trees are small and messy so i tend to opt to climb rather than throw bag, so can i DRT to the top with my hitch the unclip the splice tie off to the tree , stick in the wrench and work the rest of the tree SRT with the same hitch??? if this is so it seems you could easly and quickly use both systems to their best advantages. if anyone could shed light on my assumptions that would be great thanks carl.
  13. yes he usaully is...... kinda annoying somtimes but good to have a boss where your saftey and that of propety comes first:thumbup1:
  14. glad to see the responses to this thread as my boss was adament i couldnt do this, but have made up me own mind and kinda along the same lines as most posts fine for limbs (great for throwing and quick undo by groundy) then on to knots where theres a danger of impact on the karribiner, on word of caution is make sure they are three way as i have some that are only two way and the gate can roll open as i noticed whilst rigging a limb over a roof( luckly it stayed roped) now dont use them for that. cheers carl.

  17. cant quiet picture what happened there to be honest but goes to show if you get a sudden feeling or second thought act on it.
  18. great thread guys! in particular regs posts. a few questions . i gather it will work with the lock jack,?? i use one of these and i love it but to be honest the descent is very quick.question is would this be the same or faster with the rope wrench?? not sure i would want it any faster. how is it in messy/ tangly trees?? and lastly does it do away with the need for a cambium saver?? your views and experiences would be great as christmas and bday are just around the corner and buying yourself gear is what its all about afterall!! thanks carl.
  19. thanks i will check out the locking brummel splice carl
  20. hi i want to splice some small endless loops for rigging in 9mm tenex. the samson site has instructions but they use huge tails and i dont have enough rope for this , is there another way or is it ok just to tie double fishermans as it is hollow rope???? thanks carl
  21. ive had two . they seem pretty comfy although the newer one they seem to have removed all the padding from the leg loops, so a step back imo. seems to loosen off a bit aswell. best to try before you buy i guess.
  22. never work with a deaf groundsman or do really big trees next to a motorway!! done me fine so far.
  23. i will ring the dealer, although i bought it in the uk and had it sent to ireland because it was a lot cheaper but the flipside is the back up etc, still should be simple enough to sort out. cheers carl.
  24. my new saw is leaking chain oil when sat not in use?? havent cleaned it or had a close look yet just wondered if there was a seal or a typical thing that caused this?? annoying as vertually new. cheers carl
