  1. It will be interesting to see the outcome. We allways see posts that your insurance comment won't pay out if you don't have x, y and z. We allways see posts saying that insurance does pay out from members talking from experience. I don't think I have ever read a post saying that their insurance company has refused to pay out due to not having the correct certs etc. Has anyone ever had first hand experience of an insurance company not paying out due to lack of certs or paying out but recovering the costs?
  2. Dont assume anything Just quote what you are going to do end of. If they dont agree with that then requote on what they want and go from there. Dont let neighbours sort it out between themselves, you will be the one to loose out trying to play happy families. If it becomes a neighbourly argument then move on and dont look back.
  3. As a thought in regards to what is traditional labour. How do the you all class yourself? Myself, working class although by definition I am middle class.(I guess most of us would be classed as middle class by definition)
  4. Why are they going on about its a side geared towards 2022 so this is a bonus! Fck me, what is all that about? Plan ahead yeah, but if you need to perform now then perform now, not practice for four years into the future. A good effort though, better than many before them.
  5. Sounds like that worked out well then. Good on you for not only spotting a danger but for doing something about it.
  6. Or, you would have paid them £500 if they let you keep the timber.
  7. Insurance is a horrible, horrible business. Seen many a decent folk stiffed by their insurance company, seen many a scam artist pocket a few quid. Some people win and some people loose out big time, it just seems like a big gamble as far as Im concerned. You pays your money and you take your chance.
  8. great stuff, love that quirky/quaint English type of thing. Tree looked well fcked.
  9. That went ages ago mate, sorry I meant luv.
  10. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/society/2018/jun/29/nhs-wields-the-axe-on-17-unnecessary-procedures It's not like that vast majority of those operations are performed on the working class/most deprived of society.
  11. Yep it's a very strange situation. Very easy to make arrests, all the offenders are in one space and aren't hiding. So what is it all about then? Is it a case of PC to the extreme causing Mr PC to do nothing but stand and watch? Im sure if I broke into an office and started trashing the place I would be arrested and locked up in no time.
  12. That is sickening. Thieves are scum that need hanging, thieves that destroy and defile for pleasure need a bit of water boarding before hanging. Why can't the police just move in straight away and arrest them? Why do they have to have these"powers" to do anything?
  13. That's old news. Sigourney Weaver was doing research into that years ago. That's why she went to Pandora. Didn't do her much good in the end though!
  14. I suppose it all really comes down to numbers. In 20+ years of tree work easily 95%+ of customer complaints have been down to gypsies ripping them off, I guess thats what most others come across hence the negativity towards them. I certainly dont tar everyone with the same brush but im not stupid enough not to be on my toes when required.
  15. I would of thought it disappears quite quickly once the saw hits a bit of timber. I bet if you really llooked into it ie with a microscope and studied the effects of washing a chain or just using it you would find no difference worth noting. I remember being taught to knock the burrs off the chain with the back of a wooden file handle. Never could be bothered after the greenhorn stage but I can see that logic in it. Each to their own though, whatever works best for you I suppose.
  16. I would be interested to know what percentage pay their income tax and NI?
  17. I would be soaking them in oil after washing them in petrol. Tbh seems like a complete waste of time. What is his reasoning behind washing chains in petrol?
  18. True, maybe he has a koi carp pond in his back garden.
  19. Sounds like you need to build some upper arm strength but forget a prussik and move on to more modern methods ASAP. Arm pump is caused by a constant grip, grabbing too hard for too long. Something experience by motocross riders. (Insert a never ending line of sexual innuendos here.)
  20. Its not the same kind of job though is it. You price for one man including his tools per hour plus travel time. A tree job can be a lot more complicated than that.
  21. Ditto to the above. Don't give a day rate price it's the worst thing to do (generally speaking)
  22. Looks like a good idea providing it's stable enough. Handy if you don't have the space to store, buy and insure two machines etc.
  23. With all this talk about taking the customer to court is there any evidence that the op would win? It's not like a price was agreed before hand and the customer isn't paying. I would think they would say tough luck, and that you should have agreed a price before starting. I would just chalk it up to experience and move on, not worth getting stressed or wasting anymore time on it.
