  1. Brilliant, I can see the direct link from the state of Africa 200 years ago to the economy of Japan in 1945.
  2. OK. When I said bloke down the pub I meant the usual translation of 'a bloke down the pub' being someone who you know is blagging it, not actually a bloke down the pub who could be running a 200 man outfit.
  3. I don't know how to reply to that tbh as I don't think any of that is connected. All I can say is I very much doubt that stopping charity to those regions well save the elephants. I'm not sure how you come up with these justifications tbh. I'll stop buying impotence pills made of elephant tusk if that helps you in your plight so save the Savannah? In fact tell me the name of the charity you are running to help African wildlife and I will donate to it.
  4. I'll take a wild stab in the dark but I bet he burns his old cloths rather than putting them in an Oxfam bag. I don't understand why people complain about charities. Just don't give to them and get of your arse and start a better one.
  5. Why worry, get upset, angry and hate others, it is not your money they are spending? No one forces you to give to Oxfam. Maybe if you have a great plan to help people out you can start putting it into place.
  6. Don't use calgon in the washing machine and it still works. Well so the Mrs tells me anyway, ahem. Also don't eat 10 a day but I'm not dead yet.
  7. Always worth checking you insurance policies no matter what they claim to cover. Have dealt with quite a bit of insurance claims over the years, some pay out regardless, some will only pay for the damaged goods ie the shed but not the neighbors shed and certainly not for removing the waste from site. Some home insurance will not pay out unless you have had an annual/18 month/biennial inspection and that isn't only trees covers walls, roofs, chimney stacks etc. Don't give them money if you will never see any of it back when it counts, best to not be insured and put the money into a savings account.
  8. Don't forget the home owner has a duty of care to employ the right/relevant/whatever person to do the job. If you do use the bloke down the pub and something goes drastically wrong the law can look to said home owner. Ignorance is not an excuse
  9. Ok maybe an exaggeration but a hell of a lot more than three. As Mick says it's arb use here too so no doubt a lot less work. But it can be years before I change a bar and that's on saws that are used everyday like the 020 etc and we do go through some chains on them. Surely the bar can be flipped a few times then dressed a few times before it needs replacing? Anyhow, no harm in looking after your tools so it's never a bad thing to be over cautions on service and repairs.
  10. Three chains to a bar? I think that is way way out tbh. I have no clue what it is as I just change the bar when it is worn out but I guess it's closer to thirty than three.
  11. So firms who run well maintained new equipment who run two-three man gangs all insured and qualified can't put a decent price on the job because it can be done by one bloke who turns up in his car? Who knows why the original quote was £450, maybe it was a firm with 100 staff, large overheads who specialise in jobs that one man bands can never do. Remember, if said firms didn't replace equipment regularly there would be hardly any second hand machines available. We would all have to buy brand new at a higher cost than now due to less demand. Just because they charge more doesn't make them rip off merchants. It's all relevant.
  12. It's generally a good idea to try and weed out bad customers as soon as possible, easily done here. Does anyone really want to work for someone who already looks like a potential problem? Well im sure someone will be desperate enough, I just hope they don't end up being the one to get ripped off!
  13. The slippers thing was me just poking fun at the OP. In no way was he ripped off,. Besides there are plenty of good reasons why one firm would charge £450 and another £100 to do that job. Both could be legit and carry out the job properly, not everyone has the same over heads but then again not everyone can carry out the same tasks.
  14. If you don't charge good money for using good equipment then you are on the road to ruin. That's why many tree surgeons end up diving taxis. 'Ripped off by tree surgeons' did they drive you to the cash machine while you were still in your slippers and then didn't come back to finish the job off?
  15. TBH I dont know. I agree on it never being a wasted vote, I think it should be law that we all vote, too many good men and women have died for that right. I would have to have a very long hard look at all the parties but I guess none of them would represent what I think I want for me and my family, which is all that matters to me, and that would probably be in the short term as it doesnt matter what happens in the next 100 years or so, relatively speaking. I want a yacht, and a Lamborghini, but probably need good health care, decent education and a nicer place to live in. Not sure which party full fills both those needs/wants?
  16. Im sure this rings true but a better man/woman than me said something along the lines that the people in power should not be in power, the people that should be in power shy away from it. My sentence makes no sense what soever but im sure we can all get the gist. And it has nothing to do with spiderman btw. All I did when I voted was vote for the party who I thought had a chance of winning although I didnt agree with their polices much just more than the other popular party. Why politicians bring religion into politics I dont know but they shouldnt IMO. I could never vote for someone who was deeply religions no matter what their policies are, you just cant take them serious.
  17. I was just wondering the same, who could possibly make a decent PM? I've never been that politically aware as to do so takes so much time, not just looking at policies but also individual mp's beliefs and general behavior. So hats of to those of you that do take the time to get involved try to make an improvement.
  18. You sure? I was watching him in the goonies only just last week!
  19. That's nothing. Did you know Sloth is dead! http://www.grunge.com/47170/sloths-tragic-real-life-story/?utm_source=zergnet.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=zergnet_2344152&utm_content=3 Loved the goonies, RIP Sloth, you mad disfigured super strong man you.
  20. I thought this bit was quite funny. More was lost on Friday than in 2014, when MtGox lost what it thought was 850,000 bitcoins. However, MtGox later found 200.000 bitcoins in an old digital wallet. Nothing like finding a fiver in the pocket of an old coat.
  21. I was wondering why there are no decent comedy programs anymore! Laughing at others will soon be a thing of the past.
  22. Yep it's all a gamble, an educated one but surly you can't whinge if you lose? As for people losing their life savings, pfft. What idiots, they would have lost it some other way anyway.
  23. Im fairly sure there is no 'natural state' of the Earth as it has constantly been changing over the last what, 3 billion years or so, plus the ice caps retreat and reform so saying the natural state is no ice caps is a bit wrong I think. Also, yes im sure there was life with many times the CO2 in the air but I bet it wasnt human life and lets face that is the only important thing. I think the point some people are making is that there is a good chance using fossil fuels the way we do is going to cause future problems for the human race, the planet will survive no matter what we do and no doubt plenty of life will too, no good if it isnt us though. I dont think we should abandon fossil fuels as our current way of life would change dramatically. I still want to get on that fuel guzzling plane and jet off to have a bit of fun.
  24. Same here. Surly it's not difficult to see that releasing massive amounts of dirty polluting energy that has been locked away for millions of years into the atmosphere and Sea's can't be seen as something that won't have a negative impact on the environment? I know the grammer there isn't the best but im sure the point gives across. I certainly don't want to give up the luxuries we have as it's great to enjoy them and life is short but as skyhuck says none of us well be here to see the problems we are causing, it's probably our grandchildren who will suffer. Unless we do look to limit fossil fuel use but there is no way on earth that will happen since it's a multi trillion dollar business and getting bigger year on year. I suppose it is easier on the conscience to dismiss it all.
  25. I think one of your numskulls has gone rogue mate. That or he has his foot stock in a bucket and is causing all kinds of mayhem in the control centre. Not too far removed from this guy.
