  1. There is definitely more money in repairs and sales than cutting and climbing ! I bet there's not many tree business owners taking that in never mind someone on the books. Back to the OP, sounds like an awkward job with scope for a few mishaps and delays which need factoring in.
  2. Looks like quite a clever setup to me. The only danger is he could fall onto the saw while cutting, but then you could do that using the saw the conventional way, probably more so as you would be swinging the saw about etc.
  3. Arr right thanks. I think it's time for me to start changing my working technique as I can do without another work related injury! Plus it doesn't arf hurt and cause problems when it starts but I've been lucky that it's not persisting ATM.
  4. What is it that causes TE? I mean is it more to do with clenching your hands for gripping or is it to do with moving your arm by the elbow joint? I hope that makes some sense to someone who can advise how to prevent it rather than cure(Although I have had quite a bit of pain in both elbows over time but it goes and comes randomly)
  5. Exactly my thoughts too.
  6. Purely out of interest what is the cost of doing it that way? I am always surprised that so many people seem to have problems getting paid. In 16 years I have only had one non payment (around £150 iirc) and only a few late payments that needed more chasing that I care to do. Two other companies went into liquidation when it was trendy to do so. but again it wasn't a big sum of money. For that reason I try to never worry about getting paid as It can just be another stress factor if you let it.
  7. Have a good one all.I know I will:thumbup: Although very disappointed in the lack of festive avatars! As far as I can see there's only me with a bit of festive cheer.
  8. I would spend the whole lot enjoying myself, which would probably be travelling around the world. The last thing I would do is invest in my crappy tree surgery business!
  9. If its still running well and you like the saw then I can't see a reason to swap it out for a new one. "Usually" newer saws are lighter, more powerfull, more ergonomic etc, but not generally more reliable. One thing I would say though is give it a bit of an overhaul with new chain brake parts etc and deffo av rubbers/springs.
  10. Same as most above, big steel crab 99% of the time except for snatching big stuff(although I don't usually rig massive bits out like some do because I'm a big girl) I would probably lose the will to live if I had to tie every branch I rigged out or grounded for someone doing the above! So yes you do deserve to get some stick. Another thing, I big heavy crab helps when chucking the rope about when getting it further out on a limb or just throwing it over to limbs your about to work on.
  11. The guy is 70! You could of well had his pants off there! Charge him three times the price then march him down the bank for payment before the ink is dry on the 'estimate'. It would be a terrible loss if he died before paying you, especially this close to Christmas.
  12. Of course he was right to do, I bet loads of others wanted to do the same but the guy knew he could handle it. How else would the train have got moving again? Lets not forget the kid is a thief plain and simple. I bet many of us have been affected by thieves and would do more than that guy did if we could handle the situation. If he was a good kid who did forget or bought the wrong ticket etc he would have been apologising not give lip like he did.
  13. Tbh that sounds like a very serious and dangerous problem there! They should have a recall on that one IMO.
  14. I kicked off on the phone complaing that the needle colour didnt match my deco so they knocked a tenner off.
  15. I would have thought Richard knew that hamsters dont nest in trees.
  16. Been to BnQ myself today and got a nice 6 footer nordman for 35 quid, job done. Btw Mrs Pedroski must be the only person in the world ever to buy a tree that is still wrapped up!
  17. Just thinking the same! Possibly an inside job.

Just use an air wrench ,saves a lot of effort. Just remember to undo it clockwise, it has a left hand thread.
  19. Pricess are extortionate atm. £50 for your standard 6-7 foot nordman! For the first time Im thinking of getting a false tree as it is just getting ridiculous!
  20. Tbh it sounds like he was being very upfront from the start so at least you should know what to expect. Although I still wouldn't work for anyone with that attitude regardless about being open about it. Im sure he expects you to up your rates so just have a word with him before you start the job. He might not have the money on the job to up your rates but then it's call if you want the wok or not.
  21. You sure about that? It may get close to the speed of light but it wont reach it. I know, a very fat bloke down the pub explained it all.
  22. Space is easily warped so getting there shouldnt be a problem, theoretically. Interesting stuff though, love this kind of thing. Its neutrinos that they think are moving faster than the speed of light.
  23. A cheap clarke 160 mig. Cheap, cheerful but will melt 5mm which is good enough for me. An expensive mig is a pleasure to use though. My advice is to buy a mig, you know if you have a good weld or not, with a stick welder it might look good.
  24. Hope he is doing well and it's nothing serious.
  25. She was probably infected by a backdoor trojan.
