  1. there are no arb suppliers in edinburgh, gustharts is a 2hr drive as is clarks. spence only does saws and is quite expensive. If you know you want a dragonfly then get it on the net.
  2. some 4x4's used to have manual freewheeling hubs, you may need to turn them by hand on the front wheels. is the manual in it?

I remember the lumpy turnover too, still its a sign of good compression. I wouldn't fit a 20", go for 15 or 18,
  4. 850+vat, 3 men + 7cube chip capacity and 9" chiper. available 2nd week august
  5. I am so glad that I don't have close neighbours, I often come home from work and cut the grass or start a saw up or a strimmer, I think up to 8.00 is fine anyway. On the other hand I have no sympathy for the barking dog brigade, if people can not train their dogs properly they shouldn't have them.
  6. Nice work if you can get it david. How tall are those belgian beeches?
  7. we changed a circuit board on the chipper today, I thought that was bad!
  8. pm me tha bacs stuff please steve, unless its the ones I already have...
  9. wierd how highly edinburgh scores considering its less than half the size of birmingham.
  10. I did large trees in april, nothing back yet. TBH I think NPTC have lost their way in the last few years.
  11. The third pic has the axe and hammer look carefully and you can see the compass too:001_smile:
  12. ettrick valley, it really nice up there, takes a while to get there though.
  13. We were working in a graveyard today which has some interesting old headstones, almost all the old ones feature the skull and crossbones as that seems to be the tradition in the 15th century. more interestingly some featured carvings depicting what was presumably the trade of the deceased, one in particular had an axe and a hammer as well as a compass, so presumably a carpenter.. The last pic is from just up the road a wee bit, nice countryside round there...
  14. from what I hear the sandvic setup is miles better.
  15. I use it when installing a floating anchor, putting a wrap wound the base of the tree and a krab from the AB to the standing line.
  16. slightly higher centre of gravity, and a lower payload, my atlas weighs about a ton empty, so i still get 2.5ton on it which is quite a lot.
  17. I have an alpine and I tow it on either a flatbed or on the back of an atlas tipper. TBH I wouldn't bother with the timber trailer, get either a front loader or a 3pl timber crane, then just use your tipping trailer, that will be a much more flexible setup. In fact it wouldn't take much to get a short kingpost crane mounted on the back of the alpine leaving the 3pl free for a winch. you could use the mounting points for the rear roll bar or down onto the axle.
  18. my hands aren't small...landy owners will be able to tell that from the blanking plate on the wing.
  19. When I was a kid I did exactly the same, with a bowsaw. We went into the local woods and felled several trees. It was purely for the buzz of seeing and hearing them come over. We got caught some time later and I ended up in court. Lesson learned. Funny how I ended up as a tree surgeon though. This kid could well end up as one of us. Mine did have gobs though. TD Tree & Land Services Ltd.
  20. I'm in, it all helps the rankings, and better arbtalk than one of the chasncers who keep ringing up all the time offering some directory offering great claims that somehow you have never heard of.
  21. if you are only pulling the odd big one then go for a mid range winch, having to haul a heavy cable around all the time will get annoying, you can always double up with a snatch block for the heavy stuff.
  22. I meant that leaves of this size were rare, I was being a bit mean tbh but I thought it was interesting having never seen anything like that before, I'd say the average leaf was 20cm long, that one being maybe 25.
  23. Nice day at the show today, bought a couple of arktis smocks. TD Tree & Land Services Ltd.
  24. Well, its fagus, I found a single specimen growing in a youngish beech hedge which has huge leaves. It could be one of the cultivars mentioned above or a random new "sport". Perhaps I should take a cutting.... Good guesses everyone.
