  1. actually the heavier the oil the higher the calorific value, this is all down to the length of the hydrocarbon chains, and the ratio of carbon to hydrogen. Carbon produces more energy than hydrogen as it burns so methane, (one carbon to four hydrogen) has less calorific value than octane (8 carbon and 18 hydrogen) The heavier stuff may have 10, 12 or 14 carbon atoms per molecule and have even more energy. The higher fractions like methane are much more volatile and "burn" easier than say road tar but with less heat.
  2. Never mind the farmers, what about the construction boys! I have seen massive red diesel tanks on building sites, if they were full of white imagine all the different guys on those sites, the bosses could pay overtime in diesel and claim all the tax back. Sounds like a massive can of worms to me.
  3. A decent mog will cost me twice as much, I can hire a 22m hiab for £55 an hour, easier to do that for the dismantles then pick it up with a roofmount. I might be sorting another yard near edinburgh soon so not so much travel either.
  4. I spoke to them about that this morning. Not a bad price when you consider wilsons want over 20k for one without a crane and more hours. Its another 18k for the crane. on the other hand there's loads on the net for 10-15 very tempting
  5. i don't know why manufacturers don't just keep all the gimicky stuff for their semi pro ranges and put a propper saw that you can tune yourself. Auto tune??? who actually wants that? Maybe some hobby user but not me.
  6. Thinking about buying a tractor and crane? What should I be looking for while I am tyre kicking? Any obvious test drive checks that could show any potential problems? i'll probably be looking for a 6400:001_smile:
  7. Using fancy stuff doesn't make you a better climber, it just makes your life easier, leaving you less tired.
  8. I wondered when someone would notice that.
  9. I'm on stretch airs these days, they definately wear better than the hi flex, although i did like the ease of movement in the hiflex. Ths stretch airs are nice though, still plenty movement. I got the small with a long leg to fit my narrow wast accentuate my broad shoulders and show off my tight buns. As you can see in my avatar the result was a triumph.
  10. This is just the reality of working for commercial clients, I have waited 6months on several occasions. Often factors will invioce their client and only pay on receipt of the funds to them. I currently have £17k outstanding. Just chill, you'll get it in the end.
  11. As above, I have the 11mm commet one and need a new one for an employee, I was all set to get one for him untill I discovered the price! Looking for a nice flexible one with a good feel, any thoughts?
  12. I've worked off a truck mounted platform before, not on a mog tho, They feel very stable compared with the tracked ones, the mog will just go more places. Edit: I have seen some very nice looking ones whilst browsing for a crane.
  13. I have an alpine with a 4 ton winch on the back and a wee loader, its not a bad wee toy but ground clearence isn't great for full on woodland work, it depends on the site really. Is all your wood going for charcoal? I have a couple hundred tons of stuff I am looking to get rid of if you are interested.
  14. I think Lady cutters are thin on the ground, especially round here. I have advertised for a few positions over the last year or so, not had any girls apply. Good luck with the search. If you need a backlog clearing and want a 2 or 3 man team for a wee while then let me know. If we go quiet over the winter i may be able do do you a good rate too.
  15. I have a hiab coming to a job on Monday morning, only costs £44 an hour, min 2.5 hour hire. So for a little over a ton its all sorted. TD Tree & Land Services Ltd.
  16. That's right by the A8 opposite rbs right? Personally I'd fell it. What's your company mate? TD Tree & Land Services Ltd.
  17. The american saws have better exhausts and more power?
  18. highlight the text in the address bar of the you tube page and cut and paste it in to a reply to this thread.
  19. Have a chat with a planning consultant, these guys are professionals who know the planning laws backwards.
  20. Trying a fancy notched felling cut that went wrong?
  21. I used an old echo one, on full extension it was seriously heavy when horizontal. Fwiw I have a 4 mix blower strimmer and long reach hedger, not had any bother with any of them. TD Tree & Land Services Ltd.
  22. Sever the rootplate using appropriate cuts, J cut probably. Then process as if you had just felled it. easy really.
