  1. There is no ignorance though Andy, you have asked the correct questions, you cannot be accountable for the customer lying I would like to know the facts in this senario, so far we have been speculative My friend is a barrister, I see him on the 20th of this month, I'll see if he can shed any light
  2. As long as they look nice, thats the main thing, I like to have my nuts on display
  3. Awsome, just look at the finish and the thread pitch
  4. Your all dodgey looking doods up there, I'm not suprised. We, on the otherhand, are a bit more trustworthy
  5. If you took your car in for a service and they asked you to bring in your v5 to prove it was your car, wouldn't you find that rather strange? You know when someone is trying to fleece you, I am pricing one tomorrow that wants more taking off than the planning allowed. Rik must have reason to doubt to ask the question in the first place, the customer must have intimated the tree wasn't fully his in some way. But if you ask and he says it is, that really should be your obligation fulfilled I'm not arguing whether he takes the hassle on or whether he'll get paid, I'm arguing the facts in this senario
  6. We are paid to take trees down not throw bricks through shop windows Surely you can only be convicted of criminal damage if you KNOWINGLY take down a tree without the owners permission. You are taking down a tree in the owners property who tells you that he owns this tree, why on earth would you show massive distrust and ask him to prove it As a matter of course we would normally go round to the neighbours and explain we are carrying out works and although we may not need access could we enter into their premises if needed to clean up after ourselves. Any problems would be uncovered at that point, not by asking the tree owner to prove ownership
  7. I find that bit difficult to believe A Tree Surgeon does not have access to deeds etc. It's the responsibility of the neighbours to sort out not the contractor. Thats like someone asking you to build on land they dont own, how can you possibly know
  8. Kubota engines are extremely robust and reliable, it's only lack of service that lets them down. On a chipper, 90% of the time it is the radiator matrix that needs blowing out, do this carefully with an airline but with the side covers removed and the engine running. Best way of checking it to put a light inside the engine bay and see iff you can see through the radiator matrix, the worst area for blocking is the lower half
  9. A little trick I use is to get a nut, put it ontop of the worn head and weld through the hole in the nut to the old bolt. In effect you are welding a new head onto the old bolt. Failing that just put some heat directly onto the bolt and tap it round with a hammer and chisel. Failing that just get a drill and drill right through, apply some heat through the middle to get to the threads and again tap it round or stud extract it Or drill a hole right through the correct size to leave the thread and a little more behind then send a tap through Or just weld an old allen key the the stud head
  10. It isn't really your problem, the customer is contracting you to take down the tree, as long as you have your permission LA wise. If there is a problem then it's between the neighbours to sort out
  11. I can see it now, four thieves found tied and gagged in woodland, the theives haven't been able to help police with their enquiries as they are all suffering post traumatic stress disorder, police are appealing for witnesses
  12. Naahh, he's scribing "Sorry Mr Tree"
  13. I love the second to last pic. Stood there with the chainsaw in hand thinking, "What have I just done?"
  14. Better take some wooly jumpers along too, you lot aren't used to the cold spell we're having just now
  15. A Climber earning £120 a day in his hand is earning more than me as a company owner We may appear to get more ie if we got £360 for the day 2/3 of that are wages and overheads
  16. Too much talk of poo and inboxes for me
  17. As above, I've felled plenty of heavy leaning pops without problem, just make sure your saws sharp and put the ratchet strap on for a bit of reassurance but above head height incase the strap goes
  18. Well done Joe, now just keep your nose clean otherwise you'll need to win the lottery to get insured
  19. When you quote for the work and they ask you to apply you just tell them the application is £80 to be knocked off the bill on completion of the job. So applying is free unless they go elsewhere
  20. Today we had a wee job of felling and processing 22 mature Oak, Ash and Beech, the beech was over 3ft DBH. The wee chipper would have been huffing and puffing something chronic As an aside my groundy felled the beech, I think he was thrilled, always feels good felling your first big tree
  21. You haven't got a hope in hell with tree surgery waste. I'd challenge you with my wee tractor and splitter
